nothing wrong with a Rocket bias ... i'm a big time "thumbs" fan but this off season any argument for standing pat is silly. WE JUST DON'T HAVE THE HORSES! kinda ironic that on the one hand thumbs argues for "value", ie (paraphrase) 'don't pay too much'. on the other hand, argues against value, 'moneyball ain't all'. we have a (known &) capable team, but in the west they just don't cut the mustard. effectively, we have the choice of being perennial also rans or upping the ante for legit champ status. it really isn't about doublespeak. for me. its all about placing a real contender on the floor. overpricing a team, good enough to watch the playoffs on TV, is doom.
I'm not sure Bosh is worth giving up so many of our assets for....namely Jordan Hill. Scola is a good PF and could have 5yrs left in the tank. Jordan Hill has a very high ceiling in my book. The guy has freakish springs for legs and he's just getting started in this league. We have many assets to use in part of a deal, but I am very reluctant to give up Hill.
Because Love and Jefferson don't work together well. At all. For cripes sake they had Darko working better with Love than Big Al.
The B.S. Report: http://c.espnradio.com/audio/301405/simmons_2010-04-30-140357.mp3 Bill Simmons heard Bosh for Bynum is done deal?
I also like Jordan Hill...he's like a presence inside the paint every time i see him play. His rebounding is something i notice...he seems to have a knack for rebound and have the ability to outjump everyone.
Thanks greatly for the compliment. As much as I like Scola, there is no argument that Bosh is an upgrade. If Toronto would go for Scola (because we would have Hill) + Battier (because we would have Ariza and Bud) + our #1 (would love to have a backup center but there are some FAs who could fill the bill), I would agree with that. What distresses me is the thought of gutting the team for one player. The cost of adding another huge contract worries me. If Yao settles for $10M, we can afford Bosh's max contract. Otherwise, the top three contracts cripple our cap space until we trade one of them. Who would that be -- cash cow Yao? I'm not trying to have it both ways. My distrust of moneyball is that it places too much faith in statistics while discounting -- as opposed to disregarding -- such factors as height and athleticism.
Disagree. I would argue moneyball doesn't undervalue height and athleticism, it's just that other people overvalue them - hence why Stromile lasted several years in the NBA though he was borderline mentally r****ded. The fact is, when you have the limited resources that Morey has had over the last few years, you won't find tall, athletic guys with smarts who have good capabilities on both ends, meaning that the guys you have will have deficiencies somewhere. And it is more than reasonable to assume that a shorter, but tougher and smarter player (like Landry) will be better than a taller, but weaker player overall (McRoberts.) That's how it works. How? We're clearly not trading Yao, Brooks, Martin, Ariza, Scola, or Lowry, and I'll bet we don't trade Budinger. Who would we give up that's actually gutting the team? Hill? Taylor? Jeffries? Aside from Hill, all of them are not that important anyways, and of course you give up Jordan Hill for Chris Bosh. Besides, it's not like trading for Bosh would be the only move. Even if we gave up our pick, Morey still has the MLE, and will probably go after other guys to shore up depth. He's made it very, very clear he's not a stand on your knees kind of guy.
makes sense (not sure about salary wise) since gasol can play center, bosh at pf bynum plays center for toronto, bargnani slides to more comfortable pf/sf and acts as gasol. could work out better than you think.
Screw Bosh, lets get Blane Harrington instead! <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3k31visEt9M&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3k31visEt9M&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
If all this talk about Bosh wanting to be "the man" is true, then he isn't going to want to play in L.A. where he will be 2nd and often 3rd fiddle to Kobe and Gasol. Besides, I just don't see Bynum being a stud trade piece. He still has potential, but every year he gets older, that potential becomes less and less and then he just becomes Kwame Brown. Then you have the rumor of torn meniscus;minor when compared to ligament damage, but still not what you want to see in a guy you could be trading for. People rag on Yao for missing games, Bynum has had injuries where he has had to miss large chunks of the season for the past 3 years. Bynum is overrated and what you are likely hearing is the media out in L.A. trying to publicize this and possibly exert any kind of pressure they can to get Bosh.
