Do not trade for Hedo. Bad contract plus overrated. Ariza Hill Jeffries 1 of the New York Knick pick for Bosh
What about as Clutch posted...going for Al Jefferson? He might want out of 'Sota with Kevin Love, like Martin-Evans. He would cost less than Bosh, although since its not a SnT, we might have to give up more for him in a trade. But say realistically, a Hill + Brooks(or Llull) + expiring contract filler(Jefferies or Battier). That would balance out the numbers as according to the ESPN NBA Trade machine.
Beasley has very low value right now. He hasn't really made a leap from last year and he has a lot of off court issues. Hill would be in a higher demand.
No chance Al Jefferson becomes a Rocket. His TS% is low due to lack of FTs. He's also southern fried ugly. No way Morey is interested in the guy like that.
I'm sorry, maybe I missed it, has there been any rumors, articles etc saying such? Just an honest question cause OKC has always seemed like a threat for landing Bosh to me since they have the cap but seems like I've missed something here.
Good to hear. I've mentioned before that I have my doubts as to how serious of a player we could be in the Bosh sweepstakes (well, without having to fork over half of the team), but if a Jordan Hill-based package is REALLY good enough to get Bosh then this could potentially go down as one of the biggest heists in NBA history. No really, it could. When you consider how we got Hill at Point A (and how little he cost us) to parlaying him into a Chris Bosh, top ten player type at Point C -- that would truly be remarkable. I mean, we're basically talking about a deal that could rival the Pau Gasol trade and we ALL know the outcome of that move for the Lakers.
I still think Beasley is viewed in higher regard than Jordan Hill, simply because his ceiling is higher and he's younger. Keep in mind when asking the gallery.. we're in a Rockets forum. I think the key part you're missing is the trade exception. We would be talking about 12-13M trade exception.. that's huge. Most importantly, it would save them from having to take on salary. The Miami deal essentially gives them a young guy with a lot of upside, a 10+M trade exception and draft picks. It's kind of a moot point though.. the Rockets proposal v. Miami's proposal. Doesn't matter.. the only thing that matters is where Bosh wants to go. The only team that Toronto has leverage on is Houston.. Bosh can sign outright to Miami, Chicago, NY, etc.
I'd think it would be a decent trade for the Raps: Battier, Jeffries, Andersen, Hill for Bosh. First 3 are expiring and Hill is a good prospect. Brooks Martin Ariza Bosh Yao Scola/Hayes for 4/5 spot, Lowry for 1/2 (obviously if he came in for Martin, Brooks would be 2 and Lowry 1), Bud/Taylor for 2/3. Looks like a championship cal. team to me!
This whole Chris Bosh thing seems to hinge on him for some reason having the Rockets on his short list of teams he wants to play for (he re-upped with Toronto once already so I doubt he's that picky), as well as our willingness to take back a guy like Hedo. All else equal, I would think that some other team has a package out there better than Jordan Hill, picks and some rotation players (Lowry, Ariza, etc). I guess I can take some solace in the fact that we have a package that is plausible to get him here.
This morning on Mike&Mike, they had an NBA expert with them and they were discussing the playoffs/offseason. The expert predicted that all of the big free agents would stay except for Bosh who has the best chance of ending up in either Houston or Chicago via S&T... But the reason I'm even mentioning this is because he made a great point. He said that Toronto is most likely to get ripped off because they're losing Bosh anyway... Teams won't have to give up much. Food for thought.
I thought I'd go back and do a quick search to see what teams have given up historically in sign-and-trade deals for marquee players, just to realistically see what we'll have to give up: 1) Orlando S&T for Rashard Lewis - gave up a 2nd round pick, $9 million trade exception 2) Orlando S&T for Grant Hill - gave up Chucky Atkins and Ben Wallace 3) Hawks S&T for Joe Johnson - gave up Boris Diaw, 2 first round picks ($6 mil trade exception to Suns) 4) Nuggets S&T for Kenyon Martin - gave up 3 first round picks ---- One major thing to note is that Orlando had cap room in their two trades, so they didn't have to match any salaries, therefore they gave up very little since the other team was saving money as well. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Scola if we did land Bosh. There is no history of teams receiving a true "replacement" player with any kind of sizeable long-term contract in a S&T. Stashing up on picks, trade exceptions, and cheap/young players with upside is the name of the game (remember, Ben Wallace was a nobody before he got to Detroit). You've gotta think Scola will be dealt in some form or another, though. As Morey said after the deadline, we are in better position than anybody for a S&T. Three picks over the next two years and young/cheap talent in Jordan Hill and Budinger. I'm really hoping we can get it done without Budinger, though. Also, I think it's very likely that a 3rd team is involved if Battier is going out. I think there would be some demand for his expiring contract and defensive ability for a contender, and I doubt the Raptors really care to pay him next season if they can avoid it.
The problem is that in a SNT with us, they have to get back matching salaries since we are over the cap. So they may get Scola(if he agrees) or Jordan Hill, but they will also get back some junk contracts in the form of Jared Jeffries.
If this was a mid-season trade, I can see them getting one of our core players. Toronto don't have that type of leverage.
Let's compare with the Lakers Brooks - Fisher Martin - Bryant Turkoglu - Artest Bosh - Gasol Yao - Bynum Rockets win in pg Lakers win sg (although similar shooting percentages) Turk and Ron? uhhh, let's leave this one out I'd say Bosh and Gasol are even Yao > Bynum We could make a serious push.
