Charles took the Rockets to the WCF Finals. Regardless of what he says about the Rockets, he's DONE SOMETHING FOR THE ROCKETS. what has Stephen A Smith done for the Rockets accept talk really loud?
What's funny is that, on Friday, I sat in amazement as SAS carefully and skillfully detailed the situation with the Knicks, Isiah's reign, New York's future, among other things. He never raised his voice, he didn't wander into either/or arguments or statements, he didn't use hyperbole, he just got it right. My girlfriend said something like, "I thought you hated this guy," and I had to tell her that I used to really dig Smith before he starting up with ESPN. Though his appearances on CNN's NBA show were pitiful, his columns were great. To the point, and usually spot-on. There's your disconnect. From that Knicks breakdown to calling Chris Bosh out in the same night. Sad.
No, Stephen A. Smith was a well-regarded player for Winston-Salem State University, coached by Big House Gaines. Gaines is the grandfather of one of my best friends, and SAS was a good guard.
Charles also has self-depreciating humor--so you know he takes as much as he gives and much of it is tongue and cheek. I used to find SAS a big waste of a TV spot, but occasionally catching him on ESPN radio I think at times he has good insights, I'll listen. That said unless completely out context (he clearly indicated he was joking) I think that was a cheap shot and he should apologize to Bosh. I don't like it when folks blur being a serious reporter and being entertainer/colorfull unless they clearly indicate the perspective they are coming from at the moment.
I don't want to dismiss you cos you might be right, but i have goggled SAS and looked up several of his bios and none of them mentioned that he played for Winston-Salem, the closest was that he maintained a journal for the Winston-Salem Journal (1991-92). Enlighten me, do you have a link about this well regarded guard who never smelled the NBA and who is too shy about his play to include it in his bio, all of his bio, from espn to yahoo sports
http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1108517/2/index.htm Rookies ............
oh please, don't give me that rookie crap, you being a contributing member or a member does not mean you are a longer or better rockets fan than me. It simply means you created an account here before me, so don't let that get to your head, everyone on here were rookies ar one time. I asked Kellydywer to correct me if i'm wrong, then codell comes from no where to play hero and save the day, and then spits out "rookies" like being a contributing member means you have golden balls or something.
haha, i couldn't be wrong if i didnt make a definite statement. I joked about Steve A's bball history and said i couldn't find his bio, someone else did and posted it. So why then try to be tough and sarcastically say "rookies" as if being a rookie has anything to do with the argument. I would have been happier if he had called me "a search engine dumbass" for failing to find what he found in google, but my status being a rookie doesn't have anything to do with anything. So make a clean argument, don't throw in the word "rookie" there as if it makes all your statements and blog entries correct cos it doesn't
Nas is a great rapper. Just don't read anymore responses in the thread, that's what I do when I get a little choppy.
You missed the point. He's not questioning your basketball knowledge or your Rockets fanhood. He is pointing out your lack of knowledge about THIS BBS. Try to get a hang of who is credible and who is not around here, and try to establish your own credibility here, before you show up people like you are an expert.
