Are you worried about anyone on that team in the last 2 minutes of the game?

I am not trying to contradict you, but I am listening to the guys on ESPNEWS talk about it as I write this. Boozer's manager approached Cleveland GM and told him that if he did not pick up Boozer's 3rd year (04/05) that Boozer would sign for MLE for long-term. Boozer apparently double-crossed Cleveland when he found that he could 68 million from Jazz. I don't know if he can sign a free agent contract right now, they are reporting that it is a done deal. Cleveland has no recourse.

it's not like they signed KMart and Kobe in one offseason. I'm pretty sure the people in Utah would settle for a playoff berth next year.

I also fail to see how a TEAM that play .500 ball without a TRUE superstar is not a good mix. Especially when you bring in a workhorse like Boozer and whatever Okur can manage to muster up.

I would hope the members of this board would learn to NOT count out the Jazz by now...even with all the history and pain that team has brought us.

The official excerpt of the CBA on restricted free agency...

    (b) Beginning with the 1999-2000 Salary Cap Year, any Veteran Free Agent whose first Season in the NBA was the 1998-99 Season or later (other than a Veteran Free Agent whose Fourth Year Option was not exercised), and who will have three (3) or fewer Years of Service as of the June 30 following the end of the last Season covered by his Player Contract, will be a Restricted Free Agent if his Prior Team makes a Qualifying Offer to the player at any time from the day following such Season through the immediately following June 30. If such a Qualifying Offer is made, then, on the July 1 following the last Season covered by the player’s Player Contract, the player shall become a Restricted Free Agent, subject to a Right of First Refusal in favor of the Team ("ROFR Team"), as set forth in Section 6 below. If such a Qualifying Offer is not made, then the player shall become an Unrestricted Free Agent on such July 1.

Article XII, Section 5, part b

Boozer has played 2 years. Assuming the Cavs made the QO, he's a restricted.

We know that the Cavs set Boozer to free agency, but considering the mention of using "early bird" rights to resign him, that'd indicate they made the Qualifying Offer. Of course, making an ~800K qualifying offer on a ~24 year old 15-11 PF should be a no brainer.

Not very likely. 90% of the chance, Rox will let the TE expire. Remember it was a money-saving move. Rox is already over the cap, 6.9mil will put the team close to or over the luxury tax level. I doubt Les will do it.

ummm, unless i missed $9M in cap room we have lying around (which is where that contract starts out assuming 10% raises), we had no chance to sign him.

No, ESPN news is reporting Boozer signed an "Offer sheet" and the Cavs can match.

If they really get Boozer and Okur, Jazz's front court is better than Rox's.

    AK47>JJ
    Boozer>Howard
    Okur<Yao

    but Okur plays Yao tough.

AK-47... Plenty of teams do well without having anyone the other team worries about in the clutch anyway.

SORRY !!! They are now agreeing with you. Cleveland has 15 days to match. Unfortunately, for them, they can't unless they cut salary somewhere else as I undetstand it.

It has to be an Offer Sheet. The Cavs can match it, and they knew that was possible before they decided not to use the option. If they match the Offer Sheet, then they will have done Boozer the favors.

Good bye to the myth of top notch free agents not wanting to play in Utah.

Only Tmac, PG position, Jazz is also better

This Jazz team is like the Detroit pistons in the west.

Yeah, I was looking at that the other day. We are at 55 mil now. Add 7 mil and we are at 62. However - there are 12 teams over 60 mil. So it's not so strange. Really an average number for a contender. So , yeah, if there's talent - I'd think we'd spend the money.

Lux tax not a concern like last year.
