I don't belong to ANY church and as PRIVATE organizations I don't give a damn what they do with their money. Our government is beyond corrupt and and rob us daily.

But I get it. Your faith in government is complete and you will support them no matter what they do.

    Good point.

Texas spends $22k to house a lot of mentally unstable homeless people who would otherwise be homeless but with more access, if they so chose, to mental health care in liberal Cali.

Not only does Texas (its taxpayers) foot that 22k, a good chunk of it goes to corporations as profit. Everyone wins!

2 posts ago you said people don't have money to give to Christian organizations. Are you that unhinged?

Your feelings once again is fantasy land ...but the fact is The median income for individuals in the United States is $48,060 per 2023- California actually spends closer to $50,000 per homeless person upon further review , just a tad OVER than the average of every American earns per year -for what California spends on the homeless it's literally MORE than what a typical income is for a typical American- California has really nothing to show for it- that's sad
    https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisc...five-years-didnt-consistently-track-outcomes/

Despite the roughly billions of dollars spent on more than 30 homeless and housing programs during the 2018-2023 fiscal years, California doesn't have reliable data needed to fully understand why the problem didn't improve in many cities, according to state auditor's report.

Under the $3.6-billion program that converts hotel and motel rooms, which is a linchpin in Newsom's homelessness plan, the average cost of a room is at least 2.5 times cheaper than building a new home, the audit found. The housing assistance program, which has received $760 million over the past five years, gives an average of $12,000 to $22,000, depending on which county, to help a low-income family stay in their home. That's a fraction of the roughly $50,000 the state spends on a person once they become homeless.

The remaining three programs, which have received a total of $9.4 billion since 2020, couldn't be evaluated due to a lack of data.

Democratic state Sen. Dave Cortese, who requested the audit last year after touring a large homeless encampment in San Jose, said the report depicts "a data desert" and shows an unsettling lack of transparency at every level.

An ungodly chunk of Cali's homeless aren't even from the city or state they came from. For boomers, it's Forrest Gump without Forrest bailing Jenny out.

Which brings back to the point where the government future generations of taxpayers getting banged at both ends by boomers, rich and poor.

But all I read is Gen Z and zoomers getting **** on for being weak and naive.

Tells you where the power and influence really is.

No Social Security jobs - HOW IS THIS A THING AT ALL?
Medical Emergencies - WHY DON'T WE HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE
CORPORATE HOUSING - buying houses to just price gouge and rent out

I think California Regulations and Graft
-- What is substandard housing to homeless people? The regulations make the cost to house them more expensive than it needs to be . . . in my opinion. Look at my dorm room in college
It was Non Air Conditioned hovel . . I paid 600$ a semester to basically store my stuff there
(nah I lived there but AC was a major thing)
I'm not saying put them in any ole thing but maybe we should look at some more lenient housing requirements.

and Honestly I think alot of the money is just stolen

I've seen this first hand but the problem with building affordable housing is there are too many onerous regulations and also a lot of NIMBY attitudes. This is especially strong in the Bay Area where you have older liberals who brought properties in the 60's and 70's who while they in the abstract support affordable housing strongly resent developments in their neighborhoods.

In that sense I will agree with you as I noted in my above post about older home owners. That said CA has a lot of very wealthy Gen X and because the big tech boom happened under Gen X that is one of the big reasons why property values are so high.

    warrants repeating

for the most part, it has been the Gen X who are moving & bidding up the prices of homes,
the most inexpensive option for boomers, who bought their homes in teh 60s/70s, is to not to move.

As a Gen X I would like to believe that but my younger associates have disabused me of that notion.

You guys complain half as much as other gens, I'll give you that. ;)

Cali's Housing Crisis is complex but it stems from two big issues beyond homelessness: Much like the Dutch Disease, Cali's Tech Disease is slowly dwarfing other industries it used to dominate in the 90s like filming Hollywood movies locally, energy, aerospace and agriculture. Silicon Valley is the worst example of this, and its creep is making people commute from Sacramento along with higher rents there. $20 min wage won't get you anything beyond 2 roommates for the same room...

The other is housing regulation and tax codes that make it hard to build homes while also discouraging people to leave or sell them. This makes them dug in NIMBYists who oppose new housing and aggressively protest against affordable housing in their neighborhoods. They abuse state environmental regs to delay and kill housing projects and have the money and resources to litigate or lobby against friendlier housing proposals.

Sure your cohort has Gates and Dell, but there are plenty more boomers who moved to Cali in the 60s, bought a home and Made it Rich as a dentist or even a Union member. I don't think the money Gen Xers made during the 90s tech boom from Windows and Intel are as crazy the tech boom of what Millennials saw post-GFC. Some like Gates profited off both, but that's not a common thing.

Most people are happy with retiring when they discover they don't have to work anymore.

You start finding out that talking about how you saw the Pixies and Sonic Youth at the Warfield in 1992 doesn't impress people as much as it once did.
I can agree with a lot of that.

The one area I agree with is that we should have universal healthcare. I guess that's the one area I'm liberal on if any. Good point
