It cracks me up the Card is chided for being a registered Democrat when his foremost complaint is that the Democratic Party has changed for the worst. What does he gain by remaining a Democrat-- except not being demagogued?

He gains nothing. But respect from the PUMA's of the world, and a handful of non-cynical Republicans.

    let me get this straight

content = rubish because of columnist

columnist = rubish because we know better as to who he claims to be

SUM = we're (bbs) smarter than everybody else

    :(

This mortgage crisis issue won't stick because too many people who live in the suburbs know of too many neighbors who are in homes they can't afford. And they aren't poor. It has no shot, so try another tatic

No it's rubbish because of substance.

The "it was the blacks fannie and freddie" theory that basso and other right wing dbags are pushing is wrong and has been definitively disproven because its underlying assumption (that CRA -mandated loans to minorities caused the housing crisis) is materially false. That's a simple fact.

And anyway, yeah, I'm not afraid to call myself smarter than some sci-fi writer from north carolina who writes about politics for some weirdo publication, spouting standard republican talking points. Not a very high bar.

I liked Speaker For the Dead, but didn't think too much of the last two Ender books. Interestingly enough, Speaker For the Dead was the book Card wanted to write first, but he needed something to set it up so he wrote Ender's Game.

I think Speaker for the Dead was the best of the whole Ender/Bean series. Thanks for the heads up on the new book.

    another thing i didnt know...

i guess i like the whole military/strategy part of the series rather than the philosophical part.

thats probably why i really like the bean series.

do you know if there will be any other spin off series? (ie alai, beans kids, etc.)

I agree about the philosophical stuff. It was really prevalent in the last two books. I am not aware of any other spin offs, but this one kind of snuck up on me a couple of months ago. If you haven't read Empire by Card, you might enjoy it.

Actually it appears that Ender In Exile will be available on November 1 (seems odd because it's a Saturday).

Nope, not about any of the Ender characters. It's about a coup d'etat in the United States.

So would the housing crisis have happened anyways, without the CRA-mandated loans? Or is that an integral part of it, but there are other policies (let's say more encouraged by the Republicans) that greatly exacerbated the problem?
