I thought that Mockingjay dragged on with Kat's psyche too much. Question concerning a spoiler in Mockingjay: Spoiler I still don't understand the circumstances with how Prim died. I know that it was Gale's idea to create dual-stage bombs, I understand that the President was surrounding himself with kids. I don't understand why Coin would send in the medical unit knowing the second round of bombs were about to go off. This is all going off the top of my head, but that whole sequence still confuses me.
Spoiler I think the purpose was purely to make the act as despicable as possible. I suspect the arrival of a medical unit was not something that was directly ordered by Coin, but it was a reasonable expectation on her part (it was explained earlier in the book that that was the whole purpose of the dual-stage bomb). The Capitol was going to lose at that point, so a blown-up medical unit would benefit her transition to power more than it would adversely affect the war effort.
Spoiler My primary take was that it was to show how evil the capitol was, by pinning it on them. My thought was perhaps she was hoping to catch Katniss in the blast, or that it was intended for Katniss to watch. Obviously Prim being there was no accident.
Apparently they are going to split the third book into two movies? I don't know how that could possibly work considering how boring the first half of the last book was.
The same way they did for the last HP book. They want to set the last movie up to be super action packed.
That was my first thought when the trailers for the movie came out..after having watched both films and read the Hunger Games series, it doesn't bother me one bit. In fact I liked Hunger Games much more than Battle Royale. I'm looking forward to the second film, and although the second book gets off to a slow start, the Quarter Quell (Hunger Games) at the end is insanely intense; can't wait to see it pulled off on film. The third was a letdown for a number of reasons, so hopefully they can tweak it for the film to make it better. Mockingjay is to Hunger Games and Catching Fire what Matrix Revolutions is to Matrix and Reloaded.
I never read Battle Royale, but was there any character development? I saw the movie and it lacked in that department tremendously. What the Hunger Games books did well was develop characters extremely well. You got to know each of the main characters and were able to connect with them.
