I hate that the Gators are ranking in this aspect. But I LOVE it when I hear we've just suspended somone for a year or better yet kicked off the team. Get the F out of here, bringing the reputation of the school down a notch.

Everyone was worried last year when we kicked out that jackass Marcus Thomas. Winning the championship and seeing how he missed out on it made it even sweeter.

um, wow...you really had to go way in the past just for one example, c'mon...

that was a totally different era, the whole SWC was constantly under investigations then

if some football player at UH right now gets just a DUI or mar1juana possession, UH would not be 'severely punished'

UTEP got hit with "Lack of Institutional Control" in the mid-nineties because of a few compliance issues and stupid stuff like a coach giving a kid a ride to the airport. Stuff like that gets swept under the rug at a BCS school...

Two Longhorns suspended three games for DUI

Mack Brown announced at a press conference today that Henry Melton and Sergio Kindle would be suspended for the first 3 games of the season (Ark. State, TCU, and UCF). The punishment sounds about right, not condoning anything but we all make mistakes and they are still going to have to face legal penalties for their actions. In addition Mack is having both players meet with a mother whose child was left cripple because of a drunk driver. Hopefully both Melton and Kindle will learn from their mistakes, serve their suspensions and the whole team can move on.

Definitely disappointing to see so many players in trouble. Especially since 2 of them (Kindle, Jones) were prized recruits

Another off the field issue for my alma mater - Billy Pittman suspended for 3 games for breaking NCAA amateurism rules. Hopefully the story ends here and no more violations are discovered.

Longhorns WR Pittman gets 3-game suspension for borrowing car
    Updated: August 31, 2007, 9:33 PM ET

AUSTIN -- The Texas Longhorns suspended wide receiver Billy Pittman for three games Friday after learning he broke NCAA amateurism rules by borrowing a friend's car this summer.

In a statement, the No. 4 Longhorns did not identify the friend but said the person had no connections to the school.

Pittman, a senior, was already going to miss Saturday's game against Arkansas State with a shoulder injury. He will be eligible to return Sept. 22 against Rice.

"I want everyone to know I'm really sorry," Pittman said. "It was an honest mistake and I'll do everything I can to make up for it."

Pittman has 69 catches for 1,206 yards and nine touchdowns over the last two seasons.

Pittman is the latest Texas player suspended for off-the-field issues this summer. Linebacker Sergio Kindle and defensive end Henry Melton are also suspended three games after both were charged with DWI.

A third player, freshman linebacker Dre Jones, was suspended indefinitely after being charged with aggravated robbery. A fourth player, former safety Robert Joseph, was charged in the same incident. Joseph had already left the team after being arrested in a separate incident over the summer.

That's a ridiculous rule by the NCAA. Did he borrow a Ferrari or something for the summer? Anything less, seems like something any college student would do.

He borrowed his friends car? You've got to be kidding me. The NCAA really has to learn how to ise some discretion when doling out these penalties. This is plain stupid.

The problem with NCAA regs is that they outlaw some things that we should encourage in society.

For instance, if a player suffers a broken leg and then, in the course of his studies, he goes to see his prof during office hours. It's at the end of the day...rather than the players walking on a bad leg across campus, the prof drives him across campus on his way off campus for the day. An NCAA reg has been broken because the prof didn't give a ride to the entire class.

The NCAA is out of control.

There was a nice article about it in the papers. Oh, and BTW, the Chronicle did nothing but try to "instigate" Tx Tech's infringements when we kept whoopin' your ass in the 90's.

I tend to call bullsh*t where bullsh*t is due.

UT keeps getting players freebies. But GOOD LORD an SMU player or a TAMU gets them and starts whoopin.

All UT people are r****ds. And will never get the system.

Half the reason why I loved, as a student, whoopin' y'all ass more often than not.

You suck, UT. You literally suck.
