Change the word Bonzi in this post to Rasheed and you have the same post repeated a hundred times before Rasheed was traded to Detroit. Rasheed would have been a perfect fit here too as well. It's too bad we didn't get him. Is anyone else going to assess Bonzi's value and what kind of contract he will be offered in free agency?
Rasheed was never as bad as Bonzi. I guess some of you havent been around long enough to have seen some of the crap this peice of **** has done. He is a racist criminal thug who doesnt deserve the privilage of playing in the NBA. He is a very good player who could help us tremendously but I would get sick to my stomache if he ever wore Rockets Red.
Really? I don't remember Bonzi jumping into the crowd and starting one of the worst, if not the worst, fights in the history of sports. I'm not gonna name a ton of players, because thedon already listed a couple. But just look at how much crap Sheed did when he was w/ Portland, he was way worst than Wells and look what he did for Detroit. "Thugs" like Sheed, Artest, and Wells are all over the NBA, but they're still good players and they can get the job done. If you say you wouldn't feel right if we won a championship w/ Wells, then you're just being a little irrational. Go and see how many Piston fans don't feel right about their championship just because they have Sheed. I guess you don't really remember how bad Sheed was then, because for a while, Sheed was the worst headcase in the league, by far. I'm not saying Wells is a saint, but saying he is a "piece of **** who doesn't deserve to play in the NBA is just ludicrious." There are plenty of headcases in this league, some have CHOKED their own coach, some have jumped in the stands to fight, some have gotten into fights on the streets and gotten stabbed in the face, hell, even one of the top 10 players of all time went to jail on multiple occasions, including once for throwing someone through a bar window. My point is that they can still help and that a lot of them can completely change w/ a new environment. Wells is a clear upgrade over Wesley, if we can get him for cheap, then we should pick him up.
I dont want to turn this into a hate Bonzi thread, (if i havent already ) lets see you mentioned 1 eddie griffin, Where is he now? Oh yeh JAIL! What did he do for us while he was here? Cause distraction after distraction until we had to kick his ars of the team totallly wasting a high lottery pick. 2 stanley roberts Where is he now? Who Knows who cares. What did he do for us while he was here? Nothing thats why he isnt here anymore! 3 vernon maxwell "We won a championship with vernon maxwell" Uh I could be wrong but I dont think he played for us in the finals. Regardless we got rid of his ars too. Why would you want to add players that you couldn't count on when you are trying to build a championship caliber team? What good is it going to do to get to the finals when one of your major contributors smokes some crack, beats up his girlfriend then shoots the cop trying to arrest him because of his race?
Possom if you are talking **** about Vernon Maxwell, you are not a true rockets fan. *** off dude. without him we don't win in 94. you Ahole. know your **** before you open your trap. He won us game seven, and numerous games with ice in his veins knocking down threes and always locking down his man. don't ever talk **** about vernon. Ahole.
Do you remember him spitting on D Ferry? How about flipping off and cussing at numerous fans? How about cussing his coach out during a game? Then there was the time he and his gang of friends blocked an oppenents buss from leaving after a game and they pelted it with stuff and cursed the other teams players trying to get them out so they could fight them. How about the racist remarks hes made? Theres a difference between losing your temper and doing something stupid that you later regrtet and just flat out being a lifelong troublemaker. People make mistakes and should be given chances but losers keep repeating their mistakes and sooner or later it should catch up with them. Bonzi isnt just a head case that a change of scenery is going to fix. He has had many different coaches and environments and chances to change. He is what he is. There is a big difference IMO in Wells & Sheed. ludicrious you say? Why? Put him in any other career and see if could get away with what he has been doing. I don't know what you do for a living but if I cussed my boss or spit on a co worker I dont think they would put up with it. Why should the NBA? If winning is that important to you I feel sorry for you. jcmoon I think I hear the short buss honking for you. You better run along before your late for K1.
He didn't just spit on him, he called him a "******* cracker". And he's known for baiting white players with racist slurs. I'm sure that would go over real well with the likes of Barry, Sura, Padg, etc. But hey, he'd be an upgrade and he'd be cheap! Sign him up! And you know what? Even if Chuck Hayes IS guilty of rape, he still could be a valuable bench player! And he'd be cheap! Let's hope he's acquitted regardless. Oh, and I hear Ruben Patterson's available too. Sexually assaulting his nanny? Who cares, he'd bring us energy off the bench... And the Blazers wouldn't ask for much! I'm on board! But you know what? In principle, you guys are probably right. If we could get the perfect fit, like a Rasheed Wallace, you can maybe ignore character issues for a while. But guess what? Bonzi's not the perfect fit. He's a moderate upgrade over Wesley only because of his height and age, he has an inconsistent shot, doesn't make the extra pass, and his defense is vastly overrated on this board. I'll take a player with character issues if he'd be a great fit here. But I WOULDN'T take a player with the type of baggage that Bonzi's carrying just because he's cheap and availably. He's cheaply available for a reason. EDIT: Oh, and jcmoon, attacking posters because they don't agree with you is a good way to get yourself banned. Seriously, just some sincere advice.
Just curious? What's your opinion of Calvin Murphy? Even if he didn't molest his kids (I don't think he did.), he had how many kids by how many women? If Calvin was playing today, would we want him on our team?????? Shawn Kemp had those issues and he played, made jack, and was wanted by half the league on their team, until he was over the hill and couldn't do it on the floor anymore. Then all of a sudden, all the junk comes out of the closet. If you were to shake the tree on most of these pro ball players, you'd find more garbage than you could possibly wade through. He hasn't committed a crime that's landed him in prison........yet. He may indeed do so.......wouldn't surprise me. But it wouldn't surprise me about most of the players in the league.....Kobe, AI, etc. etc. etc. But he hasn't yet. And he's no bigger jerk to me than a player that shacks up every night he's on the road, while his committed is sitting at home waiting for him to bring her back a disease, or a player that does dope, and takes potshots at his girlfriend. How is racism any worse than any of that? Most of these guys are spoiled brats who have no concept of real life and their morals are corrupted by their access to excess. The bottom line in our society is can you bring it, can you do the J-O-B. If you can, then you get every opportunity and the system bends over backwards for you. I didn't start this thread to debate the merits of whether Bonzi deserves to play in the NBA. I started this thread to find out what his value would be to other teams in the league. What could he sign for? What is his market value? What is a team willing to pay him to play for them? If you don't think he can do the job, that's one matter. (I think it's pretty ludicrous too in light of what players are playing in the league now and what their talent level is.) But if you think that he isn't wanted and wouldn't get a contract because of the skeletons in his closet, I think you are just ....ing in the wind. Somebody's gonna sign him. It's a matter of what price. And he's gonna sign, because he can't make even the LLE doing anything else. Barring suspension or injury, Bonzi will be playing in the league next year for somebody. I'd just like to know what his market value would be. Obviously, he has to have value, otherwise, West would have simply cut him a long time ago.
You clearly haven't read any of my posts. What I'm saying is that there's absolutely no way I want him on our team. Not that he can't play, or doesn't belong in the league, or that nobody's going to sign him, or any of the stuff you're talking about. I just don't want him here, and that's what I've said in both of my posts in this thread. He'll latch on with somebody, possibly a team like Denver or Indiana, and they'll likely regret signing him. I realize that he'll get signed by someone, and I never said, or even implied that he wouldn't. I just don't want him here, and I've given my reasons why.
It is pretty easy for Rasheed and the Pistons to get along. It is only a year and a bit, and they have been to the finals both years. Let's see how he holds up when/if things go bad. Maybe he has changed, and I hope he has, but true colors tend to come out under duress. Winning cures all ills. Also the talk about Maxwell...How about Mitch Wiggens and Lou Lloyd. That was apretty good young team that was crippled by those guys spinning out and disqualifying themselves. The problem isn't that Sheed gets a lot of T's, or even that Mad Max goes into the stands. The problem is the Artests of the world, who due to their deamons, let down the team.
I love Bonzi's game and would be happy if JVG picked him up. If I had to pull a number out of my ass, I'd say we can prob sign him for half the MLE.
I care little about the off the court rumers about Bonzi or most players. I am concerned with how his game fits it, and I don't think it would very well, namely because he is not an off the ball role player. I'd certainly look elsewhere, unless he wanted the LLE (2/3.3mil)--and I don't think he take that. I'd much rather have Spree. Yes he is older and only has a year or two left, but Spree does know how to play defense and has a history of stepping up play in the playoffs. I mean if you want to talk about morals and ethics, start with the guy who paid off his likely rape victim to settle a civil suit he thought he would lose. Outside of guys with violent convictions (rapes, assults), that is a lot more concerning than whether he using words like cracker towards a dirty player like Danny Ferry in the heat of on-court battles. I don't care about the flipping off fans either, a lot of times they deserve it. To me what matters 99% is how they play on court (the 1% is for convicted adult violent offensers, which I don't want any part of). Parents, and I am one, should be role models.
So daddy if the Rockets are full of racist malcontents why do you cheer for them? Whether you consider players role models or not they represent your team and if you spend money on memorabilia and support your team arent you in a way setting a bad example as a role model?
"malcontent" is a very broad term. As for Wells being a racist, 1st of all I consider it hearsay and rumor, 2nd of all, if it just because of an interaction with Danny Ferry on the court that is different than him getting on a podium and preaching for all to hear. A lot of athletes (people) are ignorant, racist, homophonic, self-righteous, religious zealots, etc. Doesn't excuse them, but nor would I want my kid looking to them for role models. Some are worse like wife beaters, rapists and possible murderers. Like I said, those (1%ers), when confirmed (convicted), yeah I have little tolerance for that.
