Here's the trade: We send Sura, Padgett, and Bonzi's contracts to New York. In return, New York sends us QRich and Kelvin Cato and they agree to buy out Steve Francis, who then signs with us for league minimum. We get our Bonzi replacement. We get our backup big man in Cato, and we get our scoring point. Depth, depth, depth. And only add about $2 million in payroll, still under the luxury tax. New Yorks buys out Francis and saves approximately $15-20 million over the next couple seasons in salary and luxury tax payments not to mention they get to dump QRich's contract. We have QRich locked up so Battier can play more minutes at the PF and we do not need any swing men as we have McGrady, QRich, Snyder, and Battier to play out there. We can re-sign Cato, probably to a league minimum deal if we want to keep him next year. We can use the MLE to re-sign Francis, and use the other exception to re-sign CHuck Hayes, add our first rounder and we should be set right at the luxury tax limit or possibly a couple million over. This gives us the depth to go small and athletic against teams like Phoenix and to match up better with teams like Dallas. Alston-Francis-Head-VSpan McGrady-Head-Snyder-Francis-JLIII Battier-QRich-Snyder-Novak Hayes-Howard-Battier-McGrady Yao-Deke-Cato
between bonzi and kirk, i would have to go with kirk snyder. and try and move bonzi and half of the MLE for charlie villanueva or bonzi straight up for jose calderon or bonzi and full MLE for tj ford. toronto has too many pg's that need to be starting ....
Morey said they are failed to measure leadership quantitatively. Juwan did show supportive and encouraged spirits and was always very excited when teammates made a great play. These things also count as "leadership".
I agree. I don't have confidence with any of the Rockets young guards for the playoffs other than Head. Snyder under playoff pressure could be fine, but he also could melt. Wells is one of maybe 4 somewhat experienced playoff players (even Battier has had a few games, but they have not been pretty or confidence builders for his teams) and is our 3rd best one on one player. The players I would count on in the playoffs are Yao (1), Tmac (2), Battier(3), Howard (4), Alston (5), Head (6), Deke (7), Wells (8). Hayes or Snyder should get some minutes more out of match-ups. I really think Hayes might get squeezed by Wells and Snyder with Battier picking up some PF minutes. It could be the main 4 bigs are Yao, Deke, Howard and Battier, and the main 4 guards/SFs are Tmac, Alston, Head and Wells. Again, Hayes and Snyder chip in here and there. Lucas (along with VSpan, Novak and Padgett) should not hit the floor in a meanginfull playoff game at all.
I'm not so sure about Head either. He didn't react too well against the Mavs. Then again, everybody but Tracy was jittery on offense. The only players I trust for the playoffs are Yao, Tracy and Battier. Hopefully everyone else will play up to par also.
do you remember what happened when Rafer got ejected? until we develop or trade for a PG, no way Rafer's minutes should go down that has to be one of the coolest conspiracy theories i have ever EVER seen!!!
new stuff: just read the article about Bonzi playing in Sacramanto, it will be very interesting to see how Gundy distributes the minutes between the guys. oh, and btw, I am really surprised (and happy actually) with the change in Gundy's tone, here's what he had to say about Bonz: is it only me, or do y'all see that JVG just turned into a really nice guy to Bonzi? I consider that good news (if they worked out their problems, I dont see Bouncy getting traded before the deadline). but right now, I am really hoping that Gundy is impressed with Snyder. I really dont want to lose neither of them. they are both great for the team. if Van Gundy somehow manages to keep both of them and somehow figure out a way to get us a decent backup PG, I would really change my (for a lack of a better word, hater's) opinion of JVG and I would seriously consider him for coach of the year..
well i had a ?. Why cant we keep both now? Y not move snyder to the startin line up and have alston, snyder, mac, battier, and mount (til yao is back) and have howard and bonzi and head comin off the bench. That way howard can stay at the bow and bonzi on the post? Just a thought, ne comments?
yeah- and he said only ONE can be in the rotation and that bonzi is still his man? cause he said that kirk only showed skill in one quarter...
it's not about keeping one and trading one... it's about which one would help us in the rotation - many say depending on game.... BUT JVG has never liked changing rotations per game...
Let's not fool ourselves. Bonzi is a proven scorer and will cause opposing teams matchup nightmares. He will be indispensible in playoffs and he'll play for his life Call JVG stubborn, like him or not, he's our (and my) coach. Critique him anyway way you want, just admit the guy can coach.
I would take the Bonzi Wells from the Playoffs from last year over Snyder anyday. However, I love Snyder and what he brings to the table.
I have seen enough of Bonzi, we have been waiting for him to get in shape all season long. I know he has a post game and is good on the low block. But, the guy just doesn't hustle on defense and he seems very slow on offense. When he is on the block, he clogs the lane and Tmac can't drive....I would rather see Synder in there and a trade that brings in a backup PG like Atkins. I just don't think Bonzi is all that great anymore and has lost a step and a half. Am I just overeacting to a bad game? I don't think so, I just don't like what I see out of Wells, time to cut bait and run while there is still some value to be had. And, I like the energy that Snyder brings...and this team needs a high energy athletic player to matchup with Dallas and Phoenix. Thoughts? DD
