That certainly worked out well for Indiana with Artest. Very talented, he was cheap, and he only screwed up two seasons for them.

If he comes cheap, he is definitely an asset considering our unproven/unhealthy/undersized line up at the 2; he could get a starting job with Alston/TMac/Shane/Yao. Howard would come off the bench, where he would do well against second tier PFs in the league. I’m not sure if this would interest the Kings, or if it's even possible but maybe a sign and trade for our larger TE.

How does luxury tax work? Every team "has" money right, it's just they don't want to over spend, but last i checked, rockets are pretty middle of the pack for spending, why not offer some more money and take the tax hit? I might be being pretty stupid here, but don't a lot of teams spend over the cap?

You sign him to one year and give him any available minutes. A player with lots of talent playing for his big next contract will mean a no lose situatuation to anyone who signs Wells.

    Not so simple.

Salary cap rules mean if you are over the cap, you aren't allowed to make an offer under any circumstance unless if you have an exception (such as the mid-level exception = 5.2mil) We don't have a MLE left so we can't offer that. Other teams DO have the MLE which means we can easily get out bid.

Luxery tax is a whole different ballgame as it is set maybe 20% higher than the salary cap. Only a handfull of teams are over the Luxery Tax and the Rockets are periously close to that thresh-hold ...or at least they were 1-2 seasons ago. We might be a little more under now but not by much.

If you go over the Lux Tax, then you pay $ for $. Say the Salary cap is 45/mil. The Lux Tax will be somewhere near $62/mil. Say the Rockets were at $61/mil and had the MLE to offer Bonzi (which we don't). That would put our salary at $66/mil. That means Leslie Alexander must pay the NBA $4 million dollars for the right to pay Bonzi $5 million. Alexander is a business man and I doubt he'd want to toss $4 million out the window unless he felt it was a no-brainer helping our championship cause. Bonzi Wells definately doesn't represent a no-brainer decision worth a total of $9 million.

In short, it is almost technically impossible to get Bonzi Wells. It isn't about the Rockets being cheap.

There is an alternate universe that we could land Bonzi but the chances of that happening are so remote that speculation is simply absurd. But sometimes reality turns out to be stranger than fiction ...so you never know.

i read that the knicks salary line is over 100 million dollars, I trust you know more about the cap, i think i get what you're saying, but how did the knicks spend so much more than everyone else?
