Hmmm... perhaps Bonzi would rather just sit home and enjoy his 1.2 million dollar paycheque rather than get in shape and play for it? He's probably finding the Houston lifestyle too fun right now
This is something I don't really understand about the way that NBA contracts work. Players get paid to do their job. However, they should not be paid to sit on their behinds at home formulating excuses for why the world is against them. Rockets should cut this loser now.
anyone have the NBA Rumor Central on ESPN? Bye, Bye Bonzi? Insider Only http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/feat...ttp://insider.espn.go.com/nba/features/rumors it's probably nothing we don't already know though.
Why make a soap opera out of this? I hope Bonzi's ok. I hope his issues, whatever they may be, do not adversely effect the team. Lastly, I hope that he may still contribute in the playoffs.
Bye, Bye Bonzi? Apr 10 - Rockets guard Bonzi Wells, after struggling through two games since returning from the inactive list, did not join the team for Monday's game against the Seattle SuperSonics, leaving only a message with athletic trainer Keith Jones. Coach Jeff Van Gundy said he did not agree that Wells was a problem, but would not discuss potential penalties for Wells' absence or his reaction to it. "I want to make sure he's safe first," Van Gundy said. "Let's take it one step at a time. He's not here tonight. Let's make sure he's OK and go from there. Once I know he's all right, we'll take whatever the next step is. I want to make sure he's safe, first." Rockets guard Rafer Alston said he spoke with Wells on Sunday night about Wells' frustration with his play and the season, but that Wells did not indicate any plans to skip Monday's game. -- Houston Chronicle His release could come within 24 hours. After all these months claiming that he was pining to play, Wells decided not to. Just two awful performances into his return, he apparently quit. There's a guy on Dancing with the Stars who played well in the past. In fact, when the Rockets brought him aboard, another shooting guard, Vernon Maxwell, similarly decided to pout and was dismissed from the second championship team. -- Houston Chronicle
First stro now bonzi. T-mac isn't really a whiz kid outside the court. Let's not mention his personal problems that took him out last season...oh wait i did >_<
Whenever you see a "Rumor Central" article about the Rockets, just refer to the Chronicle. In this case it's just a single line from Feigen's blog about the possibility of Bonzi being released within the next 24 hours.
I know he came into camp way overweight due to a combination of a groin injury and corresponding twinkie therapy... But, he seemed to look pretty in shape the other night...weight wise, not game shape obviously. I would not cut him just to make sure he doesn't sign with anyone else.
He can't sign anywhere else anyways. No point cutting him now. I say we deal with the Bonzi situation in the offseason. Can the team opt out of the contract, or is it only Bonzi's decision?
may have been posted in the other thread... it's a shame. but as poorly as he's played this season, there's no reason he wouldn't take the option and return next year, and possibly ask for a trade. i can't see any team paying more than the 2+ million he's due next year. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4703339.html
Trust me...the media has had an effect on this situation. If both JVG and Bonzi were left alone all season by the media, things might have worked out.
