no matter who who the rockets trade for or acquire the bench has always been singled out as the rockets greatest weakness. rockets need mcguyver or just someone with a similiar philosophy of making good use of what's on hand, ie personnel outside of yao-mac. jvg's worst move this season was nixing the jho deal. that's going to haunt the rockets sooner than later.
When the Rockets signed Bonzi to the 2 year deal, second year player option, we all assumed that there was no way Bonzi exercises that option unless he really underperforms. Well... that day may be coming. He's still out of shape, and his play is a shadow of where it was in Sacramento. JVG gave him a chance to play, he was in the rotation for a while, but he really couldn't do much with his PT, and he was always hounded by nagging injuries. I think Bonzi may exercise that player option because he has lowered his value significantly and I can't see any team shelling out MLE type money for him. But do we really want Bonzi back next year?
This is what I am thinking as well. There is no way Jeff is not going to even look Bonzi's way the rest of the season. We need someone else on this team that can create their own shot and to be honest, has A LOT of talent. All you people are saying we don't need him but I thought he was starting to play pretty well even though he was turning it over more than he should. I think JVG should try to play both of them depending on the matchups. Bonzi has been in this leage a long time and now that I think about it, he has as much playoff experience as anyone on this team, except Deke. He is instinctive when he is out there all they maybe a step too slow at times. His style of play really helps in the playoffs which is one of the reasons his teams have stood their grounds in the playoffs before.
result: a big mac, sourdough jack, classic triple with cheese, grilled chicken sandwich, chalupa supreme combo, and a frosty
I doubt that. I think someone might still give him the MLE on a short deal. He can certainly find someone else willing to pay as much as he's currently making. And, he needs to make sure he doesn't spend another season in the JVG doghouse. He will certainly opt out. I wish the Rockets would have traded him for anything at the trade deadline. They've done Bonzi and themselves a disservice by keeping him around just to drop him from the rotation. Now, Bonzi will make less next season than he could have because of his lack of performance this season. And, the Rockets will get nothing for him when he leaves.
It's gonna be pretty funny when Bonzi opts out of his contract and can't get paid more than the 2.9 he could make next season with us.
and btw I would not be surprised if CD and Morey get pissed off at all of this they bring in guys, JVG yanks them away
I applaud the Rockets for going after Bonzi. It was a low cost move. But it just didn't work out. The bottom line is Bonzi NEEDS the ball to be effective. And he needs minutes to be effective. He can't play off Tmac and Yao. And he can't produce quality points in limited minutes as our 3rd scorer. So he just didn't fit. I was hoping he would. It's unfortunate. We need someone at the backup swingman position. Snyder is the guy, for now. But he is not the longterm answer. I am campaigning in the offseason that the Rockets look to fill this backup Swingman void with Grant Hill via free agency. Much better fit on this team. He can score and set up other teammates.
Is there a baby boom right after the Rockets first championship or something?.... Or did someone decide to start 20 accounts within the span of 3 months. First of all, the article is pure speculation on the author's part, and by posting it during grade school Spring Break just allows everyone to pour in their negativity. On the other hand, it was an interesting read....
If somebody would please create a new thread for me, I've recorded this morning's interview on 610 with Dennis Lindsey and he answers questions on Bonzi's status. Thread should be titled something like: [610am] Interview with Dennis Lindsey.
this actually pisses me off... we should have at least got something for him by the trade deadline. I mean.. he was great in the game that tmac and yao were out.. we just had glimpses of what he could have been with the Rox and now he's done?
Okay. But it really deserves its own thread 'cause he talks about a lot of things (it's ~15 minutes long). Will you (and some others) please get this in your head: Bonzi blew his chance to break the bank. It's gone now. Whatever he does from now on will not win him a big contract. If he had come in and contributed right away and been solid all season, he may have had a small pot of gold waiting on him. At this point, you can stick a fork in him. Nobody will give him a long term deal because he's an old, slow and fat malcontent.
it feels like this season is going to be a pack it in kind of deal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Our offense is erratic. We have a deep roster, but we rarely go past 7 players. The supporting cast plays terrible against good opponents. Bonzi, Snyder, and V-Span have be under utilized and rarely get more than 15 mpg. We have looked horrible against Phoenix, I don't think we can match the Spurs/Mavs intensity in the playoffs, and Utah might be a little bit better than everybody thinks.
How do we know he will take the ball out of their hands. all three have played together maybe twice in the same game. I think we should at least see how he plays w/ Yao and Tmac on the court. Bonzi can slash and finish around the basket. That is what he does best especially when our two stars are doubled. He will slash to the basket they will pass to him and that is two points. No one else on our team will do that. Look how many points Hayes has been getting since Yao returned because he knows how to play off of the two stars. I don't know why we say he is a bad fit when they haven't all played together.
