what if just what if somehow in that crazy head of his he decides to not exercise his player option and stays on for that second year??????

yeah its not going to happen but if he helps in anyway during the playoffs the one year rental was worth it

There is no question that Bonzi can help this team. There is also no possibility that Bonzi does not opt out and test the market. That being said, if all of this new "getting along" with JVG stays true and the Rockets make a serious run in the playoffs I can see the Rockets and Bonzi getting together on a 3-4 year deal. Will the Rockets give him the full MLE, I dont think so. However, it wont take a king's ransom to sign this guy. My position is this, for what is out there and the team's "win now" mentality the next three to four years is the window. Even if the Rockets have to overpay or give him that additional year, I think that it should be a no-brainer.

A 30+ year old SG is not that much of a rare commodity- but Bonzi fits the Team needs a lot better than most other options. While Kirk is the cheaper option- Bonzi brings unique skill sets.

I am convinced he will play a crucial role in our post-season campaign. The Rockets will match whatever Bonzi is worth- but I really hope he does not do a Mike James on us ( and I would understand that if he did). Maybe winning does matter to him.

I am a little puzzled with some of the posters who call Bonzi old! Perhaps you guys realize that Mike James is the same age. So if James is worth the MLE- it is hypocrisy to say Bonzi is not worth MLE money. Even if we paid 5 years on MLE- The owner will get back his investment in the first 2-3, if we win a couple of those rings!

I'm sure it has already been posted but.........If Bonzi plays good enough that we consider him valuable he will get well paid elsewhere. His out of shape treatment(well deserved) by JVG tells me that he would go somewhere else even if we could offer the same $. I think he wants to me more "the man" with a coach that will put up with a little more bs. I hope Bonzi does enough with us this year to earn a big payday with some other team next year.

I am all for give Bonzi a MLE (if that can keep him here). But I won't go for 5, 4 year will the top.

You brought up Mike James for comparison, but Bonzi has a lot more "off court activities/loads ;) " than Mike James. So I think age will catch up with Bonzi sooner than Mike James.

I would pay him the MLE and i don't think any other team will pay more cause there'll be a lot of good free agents.

You know, I just don't think so anymore. The more I appreciate coach, the more I think his players appreciate him. I'm willing to make a $20 tipjar bet that Bonzi is going to love playing for coach, and having the title within our crasp won't hurt anybody's case.

I think Bonzi is going to show is love and we'll show ours.
