as a public figure, you have to prove actual malice to sue somebody for libel, which is not an easy standard to attain by any means.
Yes they do "Successful claims Cameron Diaz The actress earned "substantial" damages from the National Enquirer in February over a 2005 story entitled "Cameron Caught Cheating". An accompanying picture was just a farewell hug to a friend, not evidence of an affair, the court ruled. Diaz was dating Justin Timberlake at the time. Kate Winslet The outspoken critic of Hollywood's "size zero" obsession won damages from Grazia magazine after it wrongly reported she had visited a diet doctor at the Chinese Healing Institute in California. She received treatment there for a neck injury and not for weight loss as was claimed. Kate Hudson The Oscar nominee, who lives in Los Angeles, successfully sued the National Enquirer in London for suggesting she had an eating disorder. She took action against the title after it published a story with the headline "Goldie (Hawn) Tells Kate: Eat Something! And She Listens!'" ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The sue for libel and defamation of character. DD
so I guess you totally ignored my post. you posted three claims as "all the time". and you didn't mention that was the british courts where its easier. thanks for playing
the thing that really bothers me about this whole "why doesn't he sue" is that it is made by people who should know better, like journalists. I learned about the difficulty of these cases in a high school journalism class. journalists should know better than to make such a ridiculous argument.
Yes, but it was about celebrities suing over defamation and libel....... Did the book come out in Britain, if so, lawyer up Bondsy ! DD
Not sure three examples would qualify as all the time, especially with all the gossip mags that are out there.
Those are just 3 recent examples that are germaine to the article. Celebrities have been going after tabloids etc for years. What exactly is your point in this thread? I contend that Bonds knowingly used steroids, but can't be singled out as a cheater because of all the other cheats out there. And that his not going after the authors and publishers of the book about him doing steroids adds even more crediblity to the fact that he cheated. Uhhhhhhh, maybe to clear his name? He could sue here in the USA, I was just showing you that you were wrong about celebrities, and that they do sue... DD
no they haven't that's why you had to go across the pond, damn your skull is thick, and no one ever said they don't sue, I can't believe you think three examples in the history of the world prove your point. are you that stupid? the whole point of the article you posted, proved my point about libel cases.
Huh? Proved what point? Those are NOTABLE cases, the point was whether or not celebrities sue for libel and defamation, and they do......it is not just 3....... I will refrain from the name calling.....as it serves no purpose here. I will just cite examples.....to further prove my point. Ashley Olson Sues the National Enquirer Britney Sues 8 tabloids at once Witherspoon sues US tabloid J-Lo suing Enquirer Etc...etc...etc.....I am sorry, what were you saying again? DD
the point of the article was it is hard to prove libel cases, is it not. was that not my original point. you've only made my point, thanks for posting the article.
