canseco is a moron. hes just trying to sell books, hes pissed because the MLB "blackballed" him from the game.
As far as I know most of his previous allegations were vindicated. McGwire had the chance to clear his name and took the fifth. Palmiero got busted. Baseball had a huge steroid epidemic which he has been telling people about for years.
How do we know he cheated? Nothing has ever been proven. He's never tested positive for anything. I don't think he took steroids. The dude was a lock for the HOF even before the period in question. Also, if steroids help make you a better player, then how come most of the players who get caught suck so bad? I think the only reason he is linked to steroids is because reporters were out to get him.
[Time] The Evolution of Bonds Really a pretty smooth weight gain over the course of his career/ age. I didn't realize he was batting over 300 again this year ~ impressive.
That was the whole point of BALCO labs - their steroids were undetectable... How is that relevant? He put up numbers post-BALCO that he had *never* put up before. Nothing even close. Because the only people who do the basic stuff that can be detected are the low-level players who have nothing to lose. If you're a legit major leaguer and get caught, you could lose millions. If you're going to take the risk, you're going to get undetectable stuff or stuff that isn't tested for like HGH. If you're a minor league player that's not good enough to make the majors without cheating and have no money to spend on the fancy stuff, you have little to lose by trying and hoping you don't get caught. Thus, the people that get caught are the fringe scrub players. Ken Caminiti and Jason Giambi - two admitted steroids users whose numbers spiked when on them - are proof enough that steroids help you become a better player. If you don't want believe that, ask the even more obvious question - if steroids don't help, why do so many athletes take them? Just for the hell of it? Well, that and the fact that his trainer was connected to BALCO labs, BALCO had all sorts of notebooks and calendars with his training information on them, he testified that he took something that matched the exact description of the cream and clear, his numbers (along with Giambi's) jumped at the EXACT time that the BALCO stuff started happening, etc, etc. If you don't want to believe he did steroids, it's because you're choosing not to see the evidence - not because it's not there.
Come on bro. He admitted he took "something" in his leaked grand jury testimony. He took steroids, get over it.
To be fair, as much as his motives are shady and he undoubtedly embellishes in there, a lot of what he claimed in his last book (and was mocked for) appears to be true now that we've seen the extent of steroids in baseball.
I can understand why a batter would take steroids, but why would a pitcher take steroids? Is it mainly due to arm strength and pitch velocity?
very weak. I do not see the correlation. Barry Bonds taking steroids is independant of what other players did or did not do. I am not saying other players did not take steroids. What I am saying is that the reason Bonds is singled out is because he was the best. He was the best before steroids and he was the best after taking steroids. It is pretty obvious that a significant abount of players in MLB ranging from all positions and skill levels took some some sort of performance ehancers.
From my limited understanding of the matter, pitchers would benefit from steroids from the shortened recovery time for their arms. For example it would help a middle reliver hit 93 on the gun on consecutive outings.
Amen. If you have a problem with Bonds then how can you even like baseball in general? How is that not hypocritical? No one knows who did and didn't use, and all the accusations made about Bonds can be made about Bagwell. Cammy used....do Astros fans hate him? Either hate the game because of roid use or give the folks from that era a pass. Don't pick and choose....
IMO Bonds admitted to using roids...so why cant I hate him without having to hate the whole MLB? Not saying no one else did them...but they also didnt come out and admit it.
Uhh I'm pretty sure Bonds testified before a grand jury that he used tetrahydrogestrinone (THG) or as it is commonly called "The Clear". So it has infact been proved by his very own admission.
He admitted to using flaxseed oil. But people are saying the the flaxseed oil was "The Clear". He never admitted to using steroids.
I am pretty sure he testified to unknowingly using "The Clear" under the assumption that it was flaxseed oil. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1937594
boy.. that makes it even more obvious.. looks like he started in 97/98 right when Big Mac and Sammy were getting the glory.. figures..
