it really doesn't bother me, because i sit back at amazement at the reaction this guy draws. It really only proves the point that people are very unfair in their reaction to him breaking the record. and people wonder why others might wonder if there is an underlying hatred. All I did was comment on an article, that's lets face it, is tired. there are thousands of articles on this guy's "attitude". it really only proves the point. does a guy being a jerk deserve this much vile and venom. I have been reading anti barry articles since 1993 and they only get worse and worse. this guy doesn't beat his wife, he doesn't do drugs, he doesn't get caught for dui and the down right hatred gets worse. and the sad part about, I mean the truly freaking sad part, is that people believe after calling each other assholes on a message board that they have never met and have never met bonds, think they are better than him.
I met Bonds a couple of times out in the street. He is a super laid back dude, very friendly. If you go to a Giants game early during batting practice, he'll sign baseballs, tshirts, etc. for you.
I've heard stories of him giving hecklers signed baseballs/jerseys, etc. My brother in-law who lives out there has met him and said he was a nice guy. I guess my brother in-law has been felled by the white guilt that poisons us liberals.
You are claiming two different stances whenever convenient. 1) You should support assholes because it's just sports 2) They are not assholes, their actions are not that bad "Dog fighting int as bad as killing people so leave him alone" "Bond is a jerk to everyone who meets him but he doesn't beat his wife so leave him alone" It comes across as defending people for the sake of defending them, no matter what they do. btw, many people do think that Bonds did drugs.
You have no way of knowing if this is true. Based on your posts here, you're a jerk to just as big a percentage of people as Barry probably is. You two probably both have a lot in common.
dude when did I say you support assholes. first of all, this is a bonds thread. the vick thread is an entirely different issue. the only person trying to link the two is meowgi. second of all, i said I don't care about people in sports being jerks, that's a far cry from "you should support assholes", and you're too smart to even try to put that on me.
I don't really want to get into this, but I'll say that I DO care if people in sports are jerks. I'm don't really care for Bonds, because I'd rather watch curling over baseball any day, much less any certain baseball player. Kobe acts like a jerk, I don't want to watch him. That whole Pistons' Bad Boys crap...didn't like it. Malone and Stockton? Change the channel. Melo? Don't snitch? How about don't be an a-hole. On the other hand, KG seems like a good guy, so does Ray Allen. I'll be watching the Celtics not just because of 3 stars, but 3 stars who seem to be likable people. That's the difference between seeing AI and Melon on the same team. I'm glad we have nice guys in Tmac and Yao. No killer instinct or outstanding leadership? Yeah, I wish that were different. But I'd rather see us lose year after year than watch us have a fake, falsely humble egomaniac like Kobe lead us to a championship. But that's just ME. But I won't hold it against you if you're a die hard fan hard up for a title. People want different things out of their entertainment.
Personally, I do have a problem with the sports media. if you really paid attention to my posts and not just the one's on black athletes you'd understand what I'm saying. I have a problem with the way the sports media blows every little thing out proportion. I have a problem with the way the sports media convicts everyone before they have their day in court. I have a problem with the way fans by into everything the sports media sells them and apparently don't think for themselves. I have never been one to by into what the sports media tells me the character of player is. I used to think dan marino was a jerk, because of the way he yelled at his receivers on the sideline. after seeing marino on hbo I decided he wasn't a jerk. but that's MY opinion. i honestly have no reason not to like barry bonds. he just plays the game, I don't know about him signing autographs, i don't know about his relationship with teamates. i do know I will make that judgement by mydamnself. alot of people wanted calvin murphy to rejoin the broadcast team of the rockets. calvin is black, calvin was found innoncent in a court of law and probably is innoncent of the charges he had filed against him. i never argued that calvin should be back on the broadcast because of some statements CALVIN made about his step kids. i loved calvin as a broadcaster, i was appalled at his attitudes on his kids from wed lock vs the ones born out of wed lock. but the point is i made my judgement. and if calvin does get back on the air, i won't be screaming from the rafters don't let that jerk on the air. because in the end, i have my life to be responsible and he has his. and his really doesn't matter in the long run to mine.
Actually, taking the clear and the cream since they are steroids is doing drugs. Taking HGH as a supplement is also taking drugs. And beating his wife?? No one knows except Barry and Mrs. Barry if that has happened. We do know that he has cheated on her which to some people is worse than beating your spouse. So it looks like that not only has Barry been a jerk to sportswriters, his teammates, fans, etc but also a jerk to his wife. But the thing is this - does Barry really deserve all this vile and venom you talk about? No, he doesn't but I think he really enjoys it. He feeds off of it. It is like he has made himself an easy target for people to hate him but at the same time he enjoys all the attention that he is getting with people hating him. It helps him make that chip on his shoulder even more enormous. I just think it is sad that he had to resort to taking enhancements when he would have made the hall of fame anyway.
I agree. Bonds is portrayed in the media as a jackass, b/c he treats the media like crap. But he treats the fans quite decently, and is a gentleman when it comes to his supporters. Its just when the media decides to go against someone they do it in unison, and then people who aren't familiar with the local scene or athlete will most likely come to the conclusion that he is a jackass. I blame the media for his current lack of popularity. Other steroid fueled athletes have 10X better relationships with the media, and thus they are reported on in a more positive manner and thus fans don't despise them. Bonds has basically been blackballed by the media.

I think Bonds being a jerk to most people combined with the steroids used to break a hallowed record has made him a hated figure. It's very understandable. He did it to himself, there is no other reason. Could you imagine if Hakeem or MJ were complete a-holes to their teammates and the media? They weren't, and that's why they were respected by all when they accomplished what they did. (In MJ's case he was immortalized)
