The more I read about this, the less bothered I am by it. But what does it matter, I'm not voting for him or HRC either.

He lost nearly a billion, that's somewhat concerning considering his whole spiel is he knows how to make billions. He lost a billion dollars. Do we want anyone to pay taxes when they LOSE money? Even the super rich? I wouldn't think so. Doesn't seem like it would be good for the economy to have those who invest the most having to lose even more.

Also heard that HRC and NYT have both done similar things with their taxes.

Nothing illegal or shady was done, was it?

Didn't those people straight up not file income taxes for years and/or didn't claim income?

You're bothered that people don't pay extra? They follow the law. The law allows this so that people aren't discouraged from investing. You actually expect anyone to pay more than what is legally owed? That's beyond absurd and you know it. If you were that rich and lost 1 billion and legally could avoid paying taxes to help you in the future, you and everyone else would do it.

    It's not really that simple.

There's not a black and white "amount owed" that is universally understood and you either pay more or less depending on whether or not you chooose - you can either aggressively devote your entire professional tax life to using and taking advantage of looopholes and taking the most aggressive, audit & penalty-risking position possible (Trump, and to an extent Romney) and funnel money that would have gone to the government to tax avoidance professionals, or you can not do so (Clinton, for example).

Finally, if you're takng billion dollar tax losses, you're probably a really sh-tty businessman.

Trump didn't break any laws, Hillary did. Let that sink in.

Not paying tax is smart, and moving companies to other countries to pay less taxes is smart too. Stop ask other companies to come back to pay more taxes if you do not want to pay the taxes. Just let poor people to taxes to support this country, haha. At least Hillary pays her tax. This country sucks.

Hillary Clinton isn't and has never been a business woman. She doesn't invest billions every year. She doesn't have multiple companies with thousands of employees.

Not paying taxes isn't smart. Not paying more than you are legally required to, loopholes or not, is smart. And again, didn't Hillary do something very similar?

    1) Yes. If you lose a billion, I would assume you're not as good of a businessman as you claim. Then again, what were the details of these losses?

    2) It is that black and white. You owe the amount you are required to pay at the end of all deductions. If he pays to have tax lawyers find more ways to deduct from the amount owed, he's paying what is owed.

When you're dealing with millions or billions, it's really not hard to imagine why they would want to invest in lawyers to find ways to keep more of THEIR money. People like me, who don't make enough for it to be worth it, stick to the standard deductions and just hope they don't get a notice that they owe another $50 or $100. Or, when I'm lucky, I get a $1 tax return. And yes, that has actually happened twice. The IRS has sent me a $1 check, lol.

If HRC used this "scheme" then this is a non-issue in terms of which is better HRC or Trump. But if you're for Johnson or Stein I guess you can use it against the two main candidates -- but again, I don't see it as an issue.

People and companies should use whatever legal means necessary to protect their assets.

I know one very simple way to get at those details.

Wrong and wrong, there's both a quantitative and qualitative difference between your experience of filling out a 1040 EZ and somebody using NOL carryovers and all of the other various tricks that Trump has been using.

Guess you haven't heard of the Cuba thing, or the Iran thing, or the fact that the Trump Foundation just got shut down.

Trump is bragging about this now at a rally (without actually saying it is true). He says he is now saying he is working for you. The guy is SCUM.

    No you missed the point.

One of the reasons we have a "high" debt is because a lack of revenue on one side. Trump simultaneously blasts the debt and brags about not paying taxes. It's one of those cause and effects things that makes Trump look like a hypocrite talking about the debt.

Not to mention, before running for president Trump has blasted the those who don't pay taxes as un-American.

I am very aware that our filings our entirely different, but the point still stands. Does he owe anything else legally? No! Then he paid what was legally owed!

And those same tricks were used by Clinton when she lost $700k!

Our federal revenues continue to increase WITH our debt. Our problem isn't a lack of revenue, tax revenues are at the highest they've ever been...Our problem is we SPEND too much/unwisely! I'm not disagreeing with you that Trump is hypocritical and an all around jackass.

But again, Trump paid what he owed in taxes...

Good lord, I am arguing with somebody who is just randomly taking stuff from Reddit via Fox News.

Yes, HIllary lost 700k against millions in income, resulting in a 3k deduction from what amounted to a 3 million dollar tax bill.

    No same same.

    Understand why no same same?

I honestly do not know who I am going to vote for but right now it is between a corrupt politician and a dirty business man. One has experience in politics and one has none. It is really hard to back either of them. Trump is really hard to take seriously as a politician though. He does not know how to deal with people or with being wrong. Hillary comes across as a know it all and is demeaning. Trump is running on a campaign of being a great business man but turns out he has done some shady dealings that cost people a lot of money for his own profit and maybe not quite the business man people thought he was. He is the type of business man that helped get our country into the financial mess it was in while Hillary was an active politician during that same time and involved in scandal. It really sucks in this election we will be choosing between the lesser of 2 evils. I don't understand how anyone could really actively campaign for either of these 2 fools. I will say that it scares me to picture Trump dealing with foreign issues but some countries might not even want to deal with a woman. Man this sucks.

Countries not wanting to deal with a woman should not be of any concern. We have women as head of states around the world for quite a while now.

Are you incapable of not acting like a child?

Got this from neither Reddit or Fox, but thanks. Instead of being a huge dick ALL THE TIME, why don't you try arguing your points and stop attacking people if they disagree with you or are misinformed. I don't pretend to know everything and I am happy to learn from people, but you are just an *******. Stop acting like Trump.

    Is where I saw it.

And it came from Reddit, specifically "the_donald" forum.

Why don't you address the substance rather than the provenance...I will helpfully paraphrase by saying that if you think it's the same, kevoooooo, you probably nailed the analogy portion of the SAT with Vince Young like prowess.
