Shop him and try to find a good deal but if you don't find one keep him, dont trade him just to get rid of him. But I don't see us competing until after he's out of his prime (Unless it lasts longer than I think) so if we can get some good prospects im all for it.
Only because it seems like we wont be a contender next year, I would be okay with trading Wandy. I do think that he would allow us to recieve a pretty good haul in return. Lefties who are top of the rotation guys are always something a contender could use. For those saying he doesnt have dominant stuff, isnt his curve ball considered a plus pitch?? And its not like his fastball is complete crap either, especially when its combined with the curve. Although theres a small part that always worries about a guy being a one hit wonder, I really dont see wandy regressing too much. It may not be as good as this past year has been, but I certainly dont expect him to go back to being the wandy of 2-3 years ago. I'm alot less worried about wandy being a flash in the pan than i remember being about backe after his great postseason starts. I dont think we will get anything like what was mentioned in the chron but I would expect someone who is major league ready and another pretty good prospect as well.
I'm ok with it. If you got a core of young pitchers in low A ball who you think will be good enough, when they start hitting the majors over the next 2-4 years, then I think they need to do this. I believe this is Wandy's best year when it comes to ERA. I'm not knocking on the guy...he is a solid pitcher. I assume his value is really high right now and we may be able to get a stud hitter for him. We need to focus on a plan that puts the best offense on the field within 2-4 years to aid that group of young arms coming up. Bourn, Pence, Castro, Clemens, Miers Should be the guys in your starting lineup during that time frame. Maybe Berkman and Lee.
I say trade him.. but that better come with a full-scale rebuild. This doesn't work if you trade Wandy for a couple of prospects, say you rebuilt the minors, sign a mid-tier FA to replace Wandy and try to compete again with this group.
We need to trade all of our over-the-hill players. Like Oswalt, Berkman, and Lee. Lee can't be traded but Oswalt would probably accept one. I would settle for a mid-level prospect in order to give us salary relief.
