Yeah, these signings surely (Suraly?) wont help Bokis' chances of getting more minutes. Still, it will be up to him to actually determine how much playing time he gets. He's the number one backup at the most vulnerable (not including th SG merry-go-round) position, so the opportunity is all there to make what he will of it. Bokis' showing in the playoffs and subsequent Karla b****-slapping should give him (and his teammates) confidence going in to the upcoming season. It's all up to him!!!
The thing is, with the addition of Sura, T-Mac will see some more backup 3 minutes, which would mean less for Boki. But I think he'll still get his 15 minutes. We really should cut down JJ's minutes anyway, he's getting up there in age, and we want to keep him fresh.
Did you guys notice that in the new conference, Sura said his quite comfortable with the PG position now? My guess is that he emphasised the PG because before signing, CD/JVG had told him what the Rockets expected from him, i.e. PG. How much minute Boki will get depends on how much he improved his shootting touching under pressure during the summer. Whether he views himself as a slasher or a shooter, he need to put the ball into the basket. He has no one to blame except himself if he does not get enough playtime the coming season.
There's a good chance Nachbar will fall completely out of the rotation. Sura, JJ, and Tmac can all play the 3. If we sign a backup center, we'd have to have a 10 man rotation to include Boki, and JVG doesn't like to play that many guys. Also, JVG likes old guys, not young guys like Boki.
IMO if Boki earns time in camp and then in games, he will have court time. Minutes are there for him if he's ready to grab them.
All Boki has to do is build off his minutes against the Lakers and specifically Malone. He'll get minutes if he earns them.
Keys for Boki to get minutes are (1) his shot (2) his defense (3) his rebounding - he's a role player for now. His friendship with Yao and his commitment to improving his game and working with the coaching staff are pluses that will help him retain his spot on the team - his performance in 1,2,3 above will determine his minutes.
