Asking if a guy is being showcased equates with 'wetting your pants'? It is a legitimate question as Boki is not JVG's guy, is a Euro (with whom JVG has a checkered history), and is suddenly getting some off the pine playing time. If he were being showcased might Phoenix not have an interest? Straight up for Shawn Marion. Deal. Seriously, D'antoni was his coach etc. If D'antoni wants him might that not mean Rox should also want him? Legit questions re: showcasing. Keep your pants dry.
Boki has no trade value and I wouldn't be surprise to see the Rockets waive him and bring back Alton Ford.
I agree. I see the same thing from the limited times I have seen him. He just isn't comfortable. He rushes things. I think this all has to do with playing time. he has to get used to playing, being comfortable on the court. I think he is too afraid to make mistakes as well, afraid that JVG will pull him. He needs time to be lose and just play. This is a VERY important time now for Nachbar. He has been given the opportunity to get playing minutes with Pike in the doghouse. Nachbar HAS to take advantage. He has to play smart and has to hit those jumpers!!
Let me rephrase...I think "doghouse" is a bit too harsh a term for Pike right now. I think JVG is just going with Nachbar to see what he can do. Pike isnt getting it done offensively so he is a liability on the floor. JVG is just seeing if he can get that from Nachbar now. Whichever one steps up will get the minutes.
Ummmmm Boki was a FIRST ROUND PICK, and has a GUARANTEED 3 YEAR CONTRACT. He WILL be here, barring a trade, for at least the next year.
Perhaps there is truth in the Chron recap, which stated that Boki has been playing well in practice, told JVG he deserved minutes and JVG apparently concurred. Why is he being "showcased" because he gets 18 minutes? Under that logic SF and Mobley must really be in "showcase" mode. But that is just my opinion: read my sig.
Here is what the Chron said: After rarely getting off the bench in the previous 19 games, Rockets forward Bostjan Nachbar averaged 17 minutes in the two games of the trip, replacing Eric Piatkowski in the Rockets' rotation. Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said he would "see how it goes." Nachbar said Van Gundy had told him he had earned playing time with improved effort and performances in practices. Piatkowski is making 34.9 percent of his shots, roughly the same as Nachbar's 34.2 percent. "The last couple days, after the last couple practices, he told me I had good practices, that I should be ready," Nachbar said. "He said my chance was going to come soon to get some minutes. "In the beginning of the year, I had that role. I lost that role when Pike came back. I tried to work harder. I think the coach saw that and decided to give me another chance to get more minutes." Nachbar made just one of five shots in Washington and missed his first two Wednesday. But he made his next two and finished with eight points in 19 minutes. "More than that, it's the defense that I have to play well," Nachbar said. "I don't think coach is just looking for my open shots. They're going to come. I think he wants me to be consistent on defense."
Agreed...Every player needs minutes to build up confidence and to make him feel he's contributing...I'm not giving up on Boki... Go ROX!!!
There is still time to vote boki as an allstar people... I don't think rox are showcasing boki for a trade. It is so simple, Boki is playing because he is good, and he helps to win game. Let me throw this stat at you, in 2004... whenever boki plays over 10 min, the rox has won the game.
Pike is not hitting his shots. Shooting was what brought him here. If he can't make shots, then he's useless. Boki isn't hitting shots either. But he plays hard. He's tall for a SF. I think if you play hard on defense, you'll get minutes from JVG. I agree that Boki's problem is mainly nerve. Let's hope that he will settle down and play with confidence.
I think he should be our #2 in the 3 spot. At least he and Pike split that 20 minutes. His offense looks a bit rusty right now. I think that's mainly because of lack of PT. Build some confidence, he will be a nice addition to the system. He's a lot quicker than Pike, can drive, defends well, we need his energy down the strech. He's going to be a good player if he gets chance.
