I think Boki is playing his last games in the rockets uniform. JVG is giving him this last shot, if he doesnt step up Boki-time will be over.
If Boki was a baseball player he would be sent down to the minors to regain his confidence. Only when he showed he could produce would he be brought back up to the majors for another shot at the big time.
I wonder what it is about him that's causing him to miss all these jumpers. From what we've heard in practices what not, he can shoot light's out. I've yet to see him cook the nets w/ his shooting....to any recent memory. so far, i'd say he has the ability to slash to the cup..which is quite impressive b/c he has height to match...
EXACTLY! We're talking about Nachbar instead, ugh! He started, will he start tomorrow night? Because he really didn't get starter minutes in that King's game, but maybe he does start and gets pulled if he doesn't start the game off hot. Now back to the bigger news. I see why Van Gundy would start him at PG, he's our best PG, but he's probably hating having to do that because it will tire Tracy more. Too much energy will be spent bringing the ball up, initiating the offense, guarding PGs, etc, instead of just doing what he does best on offense, and defending like he never has before. Doubt he starts at PG in the regular season though, it does show that Van Gundy is worried about our situation at PG with Sura out of action till December/January.
Why would you want the best scorer in the league bringing up the ball? I know Tracy is capable of playing the one but why do that?
Maybe Van Gundy just wanted to mess with BBSers. JVG:"Sike. I got you didn't I. You should have seen the look on your face."
Van Gundy probably doesn't want Tracy to be the NBA's leading scorer anymore, at least not as much as he wants him to make the ALL NBA Defensive First team. To me, he's doing that because he's worried about the PG position now that Sura is out and he's willing to give Tracy a try at the one. I don't think it's a good idea at all because of what it will take away from the rest of his game, but then again Penny Hardaway was Tracy's favorite player growing up so maybe Tracy himself is pushing Van Gundy to try it.
well Bibby is the main Guard threat for the Kings and who better to guard him than Tmac (with his length). JJackson would not be able to keep up with Bibby.. Christie is not as quick as Bibby and actually a better match up for JJackson in terms of style of play. Boki is the hustle guy that is chasing after Peja all over the place and I think who else could guard him? J
I have been a big fan of Boki. The way he slashes to the basket can look very impressive. The key word with him has always been “potential”. For very brief periods of time he looks like he could be a great player, but at a certain point you just have to cut your losses. He is now in his 3rd year, and of the 2 games we have seen this year he has not shown much improvement. I assume he has been practicing all summer long but it sure doesn’t look like it. In the last two years he has averaged a poor .356 FG%. This year he looks like he is on par to duplicate his previous numbers. I keep hearing the term “he needs to build his confidence”. Great shooters don’t need to build their confidence they have an abundance of it. At what point do the Rockets cut their losses and start heading in another direction?
With that starting line-up Boki is the 5th option. Not a bad 5th option IMO considering last year our 5th option was usually Cato.
I dont know, seems a little fishy to me. For a guy like JVG to declare that Boki, who has barely done anything in this league, will be a starter just comes off a little weird. I mean, JVG is a guy who insists players prove and earn a starting spot by their play in games. Could they be trying to improve his trade value? Just a thought.
lol.. this is a preseason game, not a game 7 in the NBA Finals... you test everyone and everything out here.
In game one - I thought it worked pretty well for what it was worth. The only problem was that the Kings were on fire, especially their big men from the outside. That lineup would have tore any other team in the league up except them (Give or take the Mavs) because their bigmen can shoot from the outside consistently. What happened was that Bibby could not get around McGrady - as T-Mac's length and lateral movement was suffocating him from doing anything with the ball, so the only way Mike could help on the offensive end was to be ran off screens. The first time Bibby got the ball, he tried to attack right, and McGrady lateraled quick enough to get in his way and the ball went out of bounds off his foot. McGrady - being 6-8 - isn't going to be able to keep up with a small pointguard running off screens constantly - which is where our bigmen have to lend some help. When Yao or Juwan gave McGrady help, Brad or C-Webb stepped outside and knocked down that 15 footer. On the offensive end - I think the people who are mentioning that the offense appeared better with Ward/Lue have a good arguement. But - I think I saw what the problem was. When it was McGrady, JJ, Boki - McGrady was more of the distributer and he didn't create a presense. Ocne Ward came in, you saw how our offense is going to attack teams when both Yao and Tracy are equal options. What JVG did was have McGrady run off a screen near the top of the freethrow line to draw the opposing team's attention, and it cleared way for Yao to work one on one. If any of you still have the game recorded, check out what I'm talking about. Every time McGrady ran a screen from the left side to the right near the top of the FT line, three players on the Kings left their man to help contain McGrady and Yao had the nice one on one oppurtunity to work with. If JVG can find a way to use McGrady more as a weapon when he's at point, I think it could work - but Boki has to knock down that outside corner three - because it's there all day.
Van Gundy knows what Ward is going to bring to the table. Lue has already shown he can shoot the 3. He's also got some quicks. Van Gundy knows that if the Rockets are going to make a decision on Boki it will have to be based upon game tape of Boki playing with the starters. Boki at least deserves time to prove himself out for the 4th year of his contract. I would like to see Boki can a few 3 pointers in this game with the Kings.
