What did you want? All-star numbers? He's all hustle, even more-so than Boki. Why would you rather have seen Boki? I'd trust JVG's evaluation of his abilities more than yours, obviously he's not ready or there's more to this story.
Because Boki is a better shooter, cutter, and rebounder, and he cuts through the lane on offense. Boki's problem is that he fouls a lot as a defender and that is because he is pressing, if he would relax and stay within himself he would be fine. Bowen is a great 12th man, but don't confuse him for anything more than that, Boki is an unkown, but it is time to make him a known, the guy has been money from 3pt land, and is the best post entry passer on the team. Ah well, you asked. DD
This is Bull$&#%. Jimmy doesn't play, every reserve plays like crap and JVG still won't put in Boki? This team sucks right now and shows no sign of improvement. Does Les think for some reason that these players are just going to click with JVG and his system. JVG doesn't allow players to improve and develope. Fire JVG NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want Gaines to play too, I want to know if he is any good, he was great at Louisville. Nachbar and Gaines could play, one does not exclude the other. DD
Sad to say it, but I agree with you. Boki is gonna wind up somewhere like Miami, or Philly, or somewhere else that wants a shooter and wind up averaging about 15 a game, with 48% 3 point shooting. I am absolutely clueless as to why Bowen gets a bunch of minutes tonight in stead of Boki. Yeah, Bowen got lucky and put in 8 in the first quarter. But he can't keep the defense honest. They just collapsed on Yao and McGrady and made our lives miserable tonight. Boki or Padgett either one would have forced them to defend the perimeter way more than Bowen does. This wouldn't have been tight if they had been in there. Sorry, another trade of offense in favor of more chase 'em around defense. Boki, Gaines, and Howard to Philly for Dalembert and somebody?
Boki is not an all-star or anything like that but he is far from "trash". the guy is our leader in 3 pt % and when given the playing time has put up decent numbers. He has shown that he can be a spark off the bench and does a decent job rebounding and slashing to the basket. I know he is below average on defense but that does not mean he is garbage. By the way, why would we trade him when his contract is up after this season. if he does play as bad as you think he does then we can just choose not to re-sign him.
additionally Boki was a 19 yr old rookie when Rudi was here and he had Posey playing in front of him. the rockets also used alot of small lineups that year (with francis, mobley, and moochie) so he lost some mins then also. He is now in his third year and we see that at the very least he can give us consistent outside shooting. If van grumpy plays him and he starts to miss all his 3s then he should be benched. But until then he needs some more playing time.
...Van Grumpy was rewarding Bowen with the start tonight for his ultimate sacrifice of a stint on the Injured List? When does Boki get rewarded??? Van Grumpy seems to be really going out of his way to praise Ryan Bowen with these quotes, hope that works out well for him... ________________________________________ Rockets summary Bowen's effort rewarded Ryan Bowen was not only activated from the injured list to the Rockets' active roster as soon as he became eligible, he started for the first time this season Saturday. Bowen got the start because Jim Jackson was out with the flu. The decision was made to activate Bowen before Jackson went out. Bostjan Nachbar was placed on the injured list to make room for Bowen. "He always plays with a pure heart and an energy level that is second to none," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "You can always count on that. "I had asked him to do me a favor and go on (the injured list) when we needed to activate a point guard. With his willingness to sacrifice, I didn't want to extend it. He was very kind to do what he did." Bowen said he was happy to help by not playing, but seemed to prefer the chance to contribute as a player. "That's what I've always done," Bowen said of going on the injured list. "Some people don't approach it that way. If it can help the team, that's what I'm willing to do. In this case it was to be injured for a while." Taylor OK with seconds When Juwan Howard became the starter at power forward for the Rockets, making Maurice Taylor a reserve, Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said the plan was to determine starters based on many factors from matchups to trends, But he said Taylor could remain in his role coming off the bench. Taylorhad no objections and said that in some ways, it is a better role for him. "I'm indifferent," he said. "It's not something I'm excited about. Personally, the way I've been playing, hopefully it can get me going, can help get me started offensively. I get more touches with the second unit. "My touches have been real limited with the starting group. Hopefully it'll give me a boost." Thomas gets started Former Rockets first-round pick Kenny Thomas started for the first time since Nov. 21, a span of five games including one in which he did not play for the 76ers. With Corliss Williamson out with sprained knee ligaments, Thomas played 33 minutes. He started the second half in Memphis, grabbing eight rebounds, including seven on the offensive boards. Press row view When the Rockets come off the injured list, they don't dip a toe in the water; they dive in. Andre Barrett, Bob Sura, Reece Gaines and Saturday, Ryan Bowen played significant roles in the first games after they were activated. It appears now that they will not be temporary fixes. After lamenting their lack of energy through the five-game home losing streak, the Rockets seem determined to play hard. Inside the numbers The Rockets' 31.6 percent shooting and 13 percent 3-point shooting were both their worst this season. ... One game after the Mavericks and Rockets had the highest scoring Rockets game of the season, the Rockets and 76ers' combined 153 points were the fewest. ... The 77 points the Rockets scored were the fewest in a Rockets win since beating Philadelphia last season 74-66. jonathan.feigen@chron.com http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2932168
Francis and Mobley... and now T-Mac and Yao... were/are the focal points, the core of this team, they were starters, got heavy minutes, the heart and soul, the faces of the franchise, which puts them under more scrutiny then some of the lesser-known role players. Same with EG too, he was the future of the franchise and his development was closely watched as was his personal problems. Conversely, Boki is still an unkown. He has not been given any extended chance of proving himself, but in brief glimpses he has shown something. And have you even seen Bowen play?! I cringe every time the guy drives to the basket.
Man, these quotes are like something out of the Twilight Zone. Van Gundy treats his players like trash, and I don't care what strange games he's playing with the players... it's just gotten beyond bizarre. Someone please tell me these were all taken out of context, because the alternative is that my team's coach belongs in the Funny Farm for the Deranged. (not that there's anything wrong with "Funny Farms," if you've gone nuts and need help) (I made need help soon myself, thanks to my favorite team's coach)
We have a friend from Panama who also happens to be of African descent, Panamanian mother and African-American serviceman father. She was raised in Panama, then came to the States to attend A&M. She is quite outspoken in her insight into the large button she sees on the chest of many of her American relatives and how easily it is pushed and how they need to just get over it. She sees it as an excuse for them not doing what they can do to improve their own situation. It also creates walls - walls that I feel tell me some African-Americans don't want me to be their friend. I also spent 5 years living in East Texas and saw some very despicable behavior by white people that made me ashamed. Being a Yankee by birth and speaking up almost got me fired from a job. Pre-judging people based upon your perception of their motivation, without asking each of them specifically why, makes you just like the people you say are wrong - prejudiced! Painting a bunch of anonymous posters on a board with a broad brush because they want to see a 2nd string role player get more minutes (8-12 mpg?) is kinda like something is pushing a big button on your chest, when there is no real justification. Things are much better in this country than they were, and they need to improve more. We need to be friends with people because we enjoy the same hobbies, etc. and not because they look just like us. I think this board and going to games together and building friendships that last a lifetime is one way to do that. Easy? No. But worthwhile. There is a ton of mistrust to work through. BTW if Nachbar is cut at the end of the year I will be disappointed because it will mean that this organization wasted another draft pick. And not because a white guy is gone.
Lets drop the discussion about race -- it doesn't belong here. The troll who started it has been tossed.
Yes he WAS good at Louisville but he's been a terrible pro. I am consistently amazed at the "Boki" cult because to date, he has yet to really show much of anything outside of poor shooting and consistent fouls. Gaines is/was a PG who cannot play the point that's why Orlando dealt him after making him available in the expansion draft where the Bobcats passed on him. Both guys are good nice guys but that is not enough I'm afraid. The Rockets bench is loaded with guys like these: likeable fellows who cannot help you win.
If he had a few more shots and thereby qualified...he'd be at No. 7 in the league so far this season in 3-point fg % with .476 at this point.
Let me guess, you got dropped from your middle school basketball team & have never gotten the respect you deserve on the court since that day I am sorry, but you have to let it go...
