Right now, New Jersey only has two players play consistently: Jason Kidd and Boki.

Vince Carter is their No. 1 offense option, but he is inconsistent as hell. That is why Nets are playing like yo-yo. I think they are going to rebuild in this offseason anyway. They are going nowhere even with their so called big 3.

Boki will have a bright future in the NBA. He is proving he can play in this league. He is slowly finding himself and getting his confidence back. Not saying it is JVG's fault, but he is certainly not that type of coach who trust young players and help them building their confidence in their early stage. He is not a bad coach, but he is a bad coach for rookies.

Vspan and Novak will have to go through the same thing. They are lost right now. You can tell they don't have any confidence in them when they are stepping on the court. It will take them years to find themselves and slowly recover. One thing for sure, if it ever happens, they won't be playing for JVG. Rox will dump or trade them long before.

Please explain why you feel that way. Nachbar was also star in Europe. The thing that always held him back was his mental makeup. VSpan has a great mentality apparently, but his game is holding him back. Part of that can be the transition to PG thing...since he did not play PG much in Greece but look at the other stuff: Nachbar was a better shooter and finisher and was more athletic coming into the US (and he was 6'10"). He was not a leader, he was not clutch, and he played no defense. VSpan was a leader, gritty, and was a good slasher in Greece. He was not a shooter (although his midrange jumper does look decent), had turnover problems, and never really had a true position.

I have always thought VSpan would be a better NBA player because of the mentality but if Nachbar truly does "get it" now and his confidence is not fragile anymore (he could still just be riding a high but then collapse again once things are expected of him - he did stuff like that here) then I would think his natural abilities would make him better for the NBA than VSpan. In other words, it is easier to adjust to the NBA and feel you belong than to learn to shoot and learn to play PG in a new, stronger league.

    Rimmy,

I will gladly explain it in a later thread but you certainly hit the jist of it in your mentality comment.

The massive throwdown by Boki tonight was the number 1 play on ESPN's top 10 plays of the day.

I wonder how David Wesley is doing these days?

Yeah, if only we had invested 5 years waiting for a first round pick to ANYTHING in the league. Dammit, the Rockets (and Hornets, apparently) are soo stupid!

If Boki took 5 years as a first rounder, how long should we wait on V-Span? 8 years? 10?

He was in his 3rd year when we let him go. And yes, sometimes you do hold onto players for 5 years as they develop.

ESPECIALLY when they are like 20 or 21 years old when they are drafted. We would have a good rotation player that attacks the basket and is on a franchise friendly contract.

Major, you make no sense....we got NOTHING for throwing him into the deal for Jim Jackson and David Wesley....NOTHING......

So, you are comparing the Rockets to the Hornets? Since when does 2 wrongs make a right?

The deal was forced because Boki and JVG had a spat.....and the Rockets are now watching a player develop into a very SOLID NBA wing player...a tall SF with multiple skills.

But, we gave him away....BRILLIANT !

As for V-Span...just like Boki it is going to take a coach who is willing to let them make some mistakes while they get comfortable with the NBA game....whenever V-Span gets time, the clock will start ticking.

That basically described every draft pick on the planet.

Really? David Wesley was a pretty integral component to our 2004-05 team. That team didn't end up anywhere, but it was basically the best team we've had in nearly a decade.

No, I'm saying it wasn't just the Rockets that saw nothing in him.

So? After 5 years as a mid-range first round pick, he's finally had a few good months on a losing team. That sounds like a disappointment by most standards. If you asked the Rockets what they expected when they drafted him, that wouldn't be it.

And like Boki, it might take him getting playing time by default by playing on a crappy team where he can play and not have to worry about helping the team win. Fortunately for us, that doesn't describe the Rockets right now.

Not every draft pick is coming from another country, and is learning more than just a new league, but an entirely new culture as well. And at a very young age.

Who is to say that the Rockets would not have given Dallas a run for their money by keeping Boki? They still could have gotten David Wesley and given up another player.

Sometimes it takes the right situation.

Let's review this again in the next 2 years....shall we? The Rockets gave up too early....WAY TOO EARLY and for nothing....fools gold.

My point is we should not do that again, with V-Span.

He could learn on a good team too, just like Manu and Parker, all it takes is a coach that knows the team will be better in the long run by developing his talented rookies.

This is all very interesting since right after we got VSpan, you stated that Boki "failed" because he had no confidence. As a matter of fact, here is an exact quote from you :

So apparently you had given up on him, too, yet now you're acting as if you knew something the Rockets didn't.

I also like how you casually dismiss David Wesley's addition to this team now by asking how he's doing these days. How about we go back and see what you said of the trade back then. I even give you credit for saying you were sad they threw Boki in the deal, but I would like to point out you credited JVG and CD for making the trade. Oddly enough, you weren't so vehement or outspoken against it back then... well, at least not when you typed the quote below. Of course there's no telling how you felt 10 minutes later. lol. :

    (worked for me at least)

He could play better in Phoenix like how Boris Diaw and Tim Thomas played better there, true. Nachbar might provide a bit more shooting range and scoring punch (off of this year) than Diaw but Diaw's got more complete skills, if you're implying Nachbar could match what he does. Diaw's a passing point/forward who shoots a good percentage from the field and can defend. A more "glue" guy to a team than Nachbar.

Can conceivably see Nachbar fitting in with the Rockets, but not in the current regular rotation. More the 9th man out like Kirk Snyder. Even though he's banging dunks on people this year, just something "flimsy" about his game...

I always thought Boki would be a player someday. He was always a slasher which I liked along with his 6'9 frame. Unfortunately, for Euros like Boki and V-Span, they are NOT going to develop quickly on a contending team. There are exceptions like Ginobili but it is clear that Manu was on anonther level than these guys. I thought the Rockets made the right move in moving him for the time. Just like one day I feel that Rudy Gay will be a good player (and people on this board will be b****ing about the trade), the Rockets made the right move in Battier.

See this is just silly....all of those are completely consistent with my viewpoint today.

I still like the JJ for Wesley trade....just not when Boki was tossed in...

Boki's confidence was shot, therefore he did not produce in Houston.....but that doesn't mean you throw him away for nothing........

The problem is that they could have developed Boki, kept pushing him and he would have gotten to this point sooner and on the Rockets.

It astounds me that you think my position changed on Boki, when in fact it is just the opposite, and the quotes you provide prove that out. I said he had failed: TO DATE, in his Rockets career, but only because he was not given a fair opportunity to develop.

Not with 3 turnovers and 4 fouls to go along with them, as well as participation in a monumental Nets 4th period collapse.

Just adding it in for balance.

Come on Dakota, own up. Nowhere did you say anything about "to-date" in that post. You, as well as everyone else on this planet (including myself), had left Boki for dead. Why on earth would you congratulate CD and JVG for a trade if you thought it was against the Rockets' best wishes? Because at the time you agreed with the trade.

And I won't point out how you said we screwed up with other players, how Stro was having his "breakout season" (I'm sure if he gets his career going for 3 games sometime in the future, we'll revisit his breakout season), how we should've given EG more chances, etc., etc. Hell, I'm starting to think you just take a contrarian approach to an action just so you can go back and be the one "genius" that was right. Either that or you just troll for effect and are oblivious to humiliation - lol.

So, I guess what I'm saying is, don't go back now and tell me how the Rockets screwed up and should be crucified when you sure as hell weren't going on this diatribe against JVG and the organization back then. On the contrary, you congratulated them on the deal. Again, at least in that post. No telling how you felt the next or previous day - you may have wanted CD and JVG killed.

BTW, Sam, you could've gotten revenge on DaDakota when he said the following about EG after being signed by the Nets and offered you a bet :

I'm sure he won't be bumping that thread up and patting himself on the back with "I told you so's" anytime soon, though... ;)

What are you smoking dude? When we traded for D-Wes, he was a huge part of the playoff run that year. He was hitting his shots and played great defense. Boki on the other hand, was playing horrible for us. He couldn't play D or hit a shot to save his life. It was time to let him go and try his luck elsewhere. In his rookie year, he rarely played, I think even less than V-Span. Just like V-Span, he was not ready. Guess who was the coach? Yup, Rudy T. Are you going to get on him for not developing Boki in his rookie year?
