    TJ,
Maybe you should start a thread entitled "Democratic National Convention: Liberal lock-in or flatulent gay orgy?" ;)

    Why is it offensive?

Satan is the centerpiece of Christianity, and if you are so concerned about the use of it, you must think it has some validly.

It was Satan who told Jesus "all this can be yours if you worship me." He was talking about control of this EARTH. Christianty created Satan. He's the daddy rabbit of demons for Christians.

Rejecting all things not of God was what Moses allegedly led the children of Israel to do. Rejection of idolatry and infant sacrifice were two of the fundamental edicts by God (allegedly) through his spokesmen, prophets from Moses through Ezekiel. I would think any good Christian would want to know about such things.

Do you believe that there has been widespread abuse of children in the Catholic Church? That a cover up in Catholic Church hid it for decades? Just because something is outrageous does not mean it can't be true.

    thanks

and now, for some fiddle music to lighten the mood:

The Devil Went Down To Bohemian Grove

The devil went down to California
He was lookin' for a soul to steal
He was in a bind 'cause he was way behind
and he was willin' to make a deal

When he came across this young man
sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot
And the devil jumped up on a hickory stump and said,
"Boy, let me tell you what.

"I guess you didn't know it
but I'm a fiddle player, too.
And if you'd care to take a dare,
I'll make a bet with you.

"Now, you play pretty good fiddle, boy,
but give the devil his due.
I'll bet a fiddle of gold against your soul,
'cause I think I'm better than you."

The boy said, "My name's Dubya,
and it might be a sin,
but I'll take your bet, you're gonna regret,
'cause I'm the best that's ever been."

Dubya, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard,
'cause hell's broke loose in California and the devil deals the cards.
And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul...

The devil opened up his case
and he said, "I'll start this show."
And fire flew from his fingertips
as he rosined up his bow.

And he pulled the bow across the strings
and it made an evil hiss.
Then a band of demons joined in
and it sounded somethin' like this.

When the devil finished, Dubya said,
"Well, you're pretty good, old son,
but sit down in that chair right there
and let me show you how it's done."

Fire on the mountain. Run, boys, run.
The devil's in the House of the Rising Sun.
Chicken in the bread pan pickin' out dough.
Granny, does your dog bite? No, child, no.

    Dubya bowed his head
because he knew that he'd been beat.
And he laid that golden fiddle
on the ground at the Devil's feet.

Dubya said, "Devil, just come on back
if you ever want a thing,
I'm your man, just give me the plan,
and your praises I will sing."

I'm going to this thing. It is not satan worshipping at all. We just sit around and talk about our families and what we are doing. (We also talk about neo-con world domination, but that's not the main point.)

There was no effigy where some doll gets burned. Last time Kissinger accidentally dropped his cigar and started a little brush fire. No biggie.

Well the video of course was grainy and it was hidden under a robe or hat or something, but there was at least 1000+ people there chanting and mumbling at some sort of idol on a stage. The whole ceremony thing looked very low budget-- there was some pyrotechnics on par with a Great White show. The group is definitely real-- the video I saw wasn't staged or anything, there were just too many people participating in something that really defies words for it to be faked. There wasn't any violence or anything, but I think they acted out some sort of sacrifice which ended with an explosion (think rock 'n' roll show). They were wearing some kind of robe thing just like the Simpson’s show about the Stonecutters. In fact i'm sure that’s where they got the idea for that episode. The video I saw was extremely long and tedious-- lots of ceremony-- lots of nonsense. I probably didn't even watch a quarter of the thing-- all I know is anyone who would be a member of this group is a serious freak-- on that point i'm sure. If it reminded me of anything it would be a klu klux klan rally—its that weird.

I don't know what to make of this. This is the first time I've heard about this and I am pretty skeptical.

I do love How T_J is complaining about this and making it seem like some Liberal/Democratic conpiracy to slander Bush, Republicans, etc. How is he any better than Hilary?

What exactly about most threads on this board makes you think that there needs to be objective analysis to justify the title, particularly in this forum? Every forum is littered with thread titles that are misleading, bizarre, even stupid. You should be used to that by now.

You haven't been here long enough to realize that the exact same complaints have been levelled by both liberals and conservatives ever since the Hangout began.

It could be argued that many of the liberal posters "fled" after the Bush election and didn't return until recently.

Historically, there is nothing new about one group of posters dominating conversation. It has happened from both sides for years. This is not new nor is it unique.

Besides, this is NOT a political board. This is a board that draws basketball fans as visitors. Whatever their political affiliation, the most important distinction for people on this board is that they are Rocket fans.

Frankly, this "everyone ELSE is offensive" take is what bothers most people.

You created an entire thread in an attempt to make fun of another poster. Not only was in inappropriate, but you broke one of the cardinal rules of any board by posting personal information for an anonymous poster. The object of your attempted shot never ONCE complained about it.

Not a single other person has complained about this thread or any of the other threads you have reported to the moderators. No one. Instead of attempting to have an insightful and intellegent conversation about the subject at hand, you turn it into yet ANOTHER argument over conservative vs. liberal politics.

Personally, I don't care about your insults or insinuations. It doesn't bother me that you are abrasive and try to provoke people with your self-proclaimed psychological warfare.

What is annoying (and not just to me) is that you often get personal with posters either through insults, personal attacks or, worse yet, revealing personal information about them on this mostly anonymous board. Yet, the minute you feel offended by anything or someone reveals something personal about YOU, you report the post to moderators and practically demand that one of us rectify the injustice.

For someone who often provokes, insults and personally attacks people, you sure do ask for the intervention of moderators more than I would expect from someone who can dish it out as you do.

The truth is that you are your own worst enemy. By engaging in such abrasive and caustic debates over what can often be discussed in a civil and adult manner, you make yourself a lightning rod for criticism and insults. You even SAY you are doing it on purpose and revel in your catch phrases no matter how much they clearly agitate other posters. Truth is, you seem to really enjoy agitating other posters.

That's fine if that's what you want to do. You aren't the first person to come on the board with that type of personality and you certainly won't be the last. There are plenty on all sides of the political spectrum. But, don't expect the moderators to protect you or bail you out when you get hammered or feel offended. You have no one to blame but yourself.

It's ironic that they are called Bohemians. Doesn't sound like most Bohemians I've ever heard of.

I've seen a documentary on this. Why can the secrecy not be penetrated?

So coy. It's your linkage of Satan and Worship which is a total supposition on your part that is offensive.

Why didn't you just suggest that they were Rice Owl fans? :D

Technically, "bohemian" has been misused since the late 19th century, when it was first used for commercial reasons and bourgeois and arsitocratic circles appropriated it. It is actually quite fitting in this case, an irony which is probably lost on them.

Don't Bohemians pre-date Beatniks who pre-date Hippies... or something like that?

The problem seems to be the use of the word "conservative" in the title's comparison. Maybe "rich and powerful sumer camp or Satan worshippers" would be a better phrase? At any rate, as touchy as some people are about partisanship and this administration TJ's response is not unexpected. I don't expect many conservative posters to get past the "conservative or satanic" juxtaposition.

I don't know, but I've been wanting to ask you if your name has anything to do with that Country and Western tune from the 1970s about GIDDYUP GO.

It was a tear jerker about a little boy who said "giddyup go."

I don't mind having the topic title amended to something less objectionable. I don't know if you have the capability to alter titles, but if you do, please change it as you see fit. I wanted a title that would attract posters and perhaps pique interest.

It's not supposition on my part. I am giving the interpretation that many have given. I have not adopted it, but presented it. I have included some of the reports and inferences of those who have observed the ceremonies and reported on them.

If I were reading information and from that information drawing conclusions, I would be making a supposition. I am reporting suppositions of others.

The linkage to Satanic activities, or Molech worshipping activities is drawn by those who have studied it, not me. Why should this manner of inquiry not be pursued? What is so terrible about believing the most powerful may not worship the same God most of us do? If there is one thing the story of Jesus strongly suggests, it is that powerful men have power because they are evil.

He even said something about it being easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a Bohemian Grove Member to get into heaven.

It worked. And there's no need to amend it. It's much ado about nothing like all T_J complaints. Righteous slapdown, Jeff.

Alex Jones is one person who put together a video of some Bohemian Grove rituals. This group is certainly sinister enough to warrant public interest.

I stole my moniker from Cosmo Kramer on Seinfeld.

The point is that it is the most offensive choice you could have made. It is attention-grabbing which is what the headline is supposecd to do I suppose.

Not all -- especially believing Christians -- are as detached from Satan as you apparently are.
