I believe they can still attempt to match the Magic offer. The qualifying offer we made was pretty low ... certainly not anywhere near the $2mil/year they're reportedly offering him.
Like I've stated in the Queen James Thread, STAY AWAY from Deshawn. A -10.6 net +/- = STAY AWAY. To put some perspective on that, the only person with a -10 net +/- on our team is RYAN BOWEN. Deshawn is actually worse in this regard. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.
I'm not sad to see Bogans go, but this doesn't help the appearance that our offseason has been more loss than gain.
Pass on Stevenson. A man with his past is someone I'd really prefer not to be playing on my favorite sports team.
The Rockets DID make a qualifying offer to Keith Bogans (I think on June 30), meaning that Bogans is a RESTRICTED free agent. If the Rockets want to match Orlando's offer (according to the article, 3 years, ~$6M?), they can do so at any time for 7 days after Bogans signs the Orlando offer sheet. If the Rockets don't think he's worth it, ONLY THEN would Bogans NOT be a Rocket. I really think this presents an opportunity for the Rockets. Orlando is using part of their MLE to sign Bogans. The Rockets can offer a chance for Orlando to get Bogans while still reserving the entire MLE for other free agents. Before Bogans signs the offer sheet, the Rockets should inquire about doing a sign-and-trade whereby the Rockets sign-and-trade Bogans to Orlando in exchange for a re-signed DeShawn Stevenson or Trevor Ariza or perhaps another Magic role player (Garrity?). Capologists, I want to make sure. Can two teams sign-and-trade their own free agents for each other?
BOGANS > STEVENSON Nice, now the Rockets let our best FA option walk. They are giving 2 for 1 in trades, yet we have how many guys on the roster for next season? If not to make matters worse, we have Charlie Ward eating our cap, as a Assistant Coach. Whats next, give Jon Barry the Vet. Min., to broadcast? Our best option off the bench is Sura, a rehab journeyman, that has a bad back, knees, and probably a Christmas list more. The worse part about this, is if we re-signed Wesley for like 4 years.....at this rate, I wouldnt e surprised. Good going CD, thanks for sinking my battleship.
If they made the QO, then you are right about the 7 days. There is nothing to stop the SnT both ways. However, does the pay raise for Stevenson make him a Base Year Compensation player? If not, the other hurdle is whether the Rockets want him. I personally doubt it.
and we better not sign stevenson he sucks and is not worht that type of money. Dont screw up CD, wait u already did by letting bogans go!!!!!!!!!
Maybe we have a gentlemen's agreement with Orlando that we will not match on Bogans if they do not match if we sign Ariza?
Bogans should be allowed to walk. I like him but I have little need for a 39% FG shooter and a ~32% from distance. He is a great hussle guy though but we already have enough in Battier and Bowen. He would be allowed to walk thanks in large part to Morey. Best wishes to Keith. P.S. Once CD finally exits, we will not see players like Keith here anymore, Morey will not put of for it whether JVG is here or not. Players like Keith, Bowen Ryan, Charlie Ward are not Morey type of players.
The only players left that I would even think about signing up are: Wilcox (but he would probably take the entire MLE, and we would still be weak at the guard) Trevor Ariza (He's pretty athletic, likes to play defense, and he would learn a lot playing behind Tmac and Battier) Jared Jeffries (Can play all the foward spots, can play a little center if we go small, has descent range... Kinda see him as a more athletic Howard minus Howard's leadership and playmaking.) --> A lot of people call Battier a great team player, I can see Jeffries being similar VSpan (I doubt we will see him this year. He wants to win big in his home country first). Our best case would be signing Ariza and Jeffries with parts of the MLE. Yao / Mutumbo / Jeffries Howard/Jeffries/Hayes Tmac / Ariza Battier / Head / Sura Alston / Sura / Lucas Not too bad.
