Well, so much for that idea:

    31 Million Watched Obama Speech

The Nielsen ratings just came out for last night’s presidential address. An astonishing 31 million viewers tuned in to listen to Obama address the joint session of Congress. In comparison, only 5.4 million viewers watched the GOP debate at the Reagan Library the previous night. Not even the opening game of the NFL season could outdraw the president; the Saints and Packers attracted 27 million ecstatic football fans.

Sweet Lou, you really need to give it a rest with your stupid "where's your guts, Obama?" nonsense. Blah, blah, blah.

He doesn't have guts. He is weak. And he is naive. He has shown all of us this much in 3 years.

You can't be naive and be president. You have to understand how people think. That's part of leadership. He allowed his opponents to define him as a liberal and run rough sled over him. How can you defend the man with a sub-40% approval rating?

If he was tough he would have never extended the Bush tax cuts. He compromised on things the Republicans bluffed about. He's a fool of a fool, he better learn quickly to get tough and be a smarter politician or he is going to be former President Obama very soon.

I doubt he gets re-elected. I think Romney will be our next prez.

Because he compromised on Bush tax cuts we got SALT 2 signed, unemployment benefits signed, Don't Ask Don't Tell revoked, etc. He did what he had to do to get stuff done. He got stuff accomplished.

They would have signed SALT 2 anyway.

And those are peanuts compared to what he gave up. He sold the farm for a chicken and a few eggs.

If that's an accomplishment then i should pat myself on the back every time I lift a finger.

No, they wouldn't have gotten SALT 2 ratified. The GOP was blocking all legislation including SALT 2 at the time.

I also don't think passing the end of DADT and unemployment benefits extension was all that minor. Certainly to all the unemployed people in the US (almost 10% of the population) it wasn't minor.

He could have had all of that and more.

I think extending unemployment benefits was important, but more important was actually laying a frame work to rebuild America as a leader in innovation once more. Had Obama build his presidency around that - as promised, I'd vote for him for re-election.

He failed there. And I won't vote for him again. I'll for against him if it is huntsman. This country is in dire need of real leadership. He has failed. Where is the innovation? Where is the leadership in bringing more than just ideological innovation around solar and green energy?

Corporate America is sitting on a ton of cash. Obama could have worked out tax breaks and other incentives to encourage more into start-ups and invention. He has not.

Another example, for $10 billion dollars, he could have given out 100,000 grants of $10,000 to people with ideas for businesses. Not saying that is the right idea, but sure beats blowing 500 million into one company that failed badly.

I think there's a lot I'm disappointed with Obama about. But in that particular interest it wasn't about crafting other legislation. It was about getting legislation that was existing up for a vote to pass it.

Those were the choices at the time. I think it was the right decision to get all of those things passed at the time at the expense of extending Bush tax cuts.

His leadership in other areas are a separate argument.

I simply respectfully disagree. the Republicans wanted the Bush tax cuts more than they wanted to oppose the other things. I think had Obama not extended the Bush tax cuts our credit would not have been downgraded. More importantly, republicans would realize that Obama had some strength and was willing to oppose them and not pander.

I think that's a big part of leadership. By his actions last year, he set himself up to be bulldozed on the debt ceiling talks. It was the biggest mistake of his presidency.
