What? It's not a big deal at all. It's made up media hoopla. I only quoted greenwald inasmuch as he calls out the press for acting so ridiculously. I'm not sure if Obama is right or wrong to accede to the GOP demand regarding timing. I only posted the links to articles concerning that discussion for others to digest - I'm not sure I have a position in that fight or an inkling to care much about it. As for the BBC article, it really provides zero additional information, except to state that the Pentagon concluded that everything was hunky-dory. Wow, truly shocking that. Now, of course one can argue that the Pentagon is being truthful, but then...why the handcuffs? Alternatively, one might raise an eyebrow given other circumstances that have similar storylines, only different (more believable) outcomes.
the bbc article is from 2006, there was an investigation. the wikkileak provides nothing new five years later is the point
Independent, co-equal branches and Obama's the visiting team; and it's not the State of the Union or a national security incident, so I don't know what the big deal is.
Funny thing is I am not a liberal. guys like Batman Jones are liberals. It's just that people are so extreme to the right that even moderates like me are considered liberals.
Bloody Christ, I don't know in what universe Florida, North Carolina and Virginia would have picked Hillary Clinton over McCain.
Not a big deal, but Obama looks rather dumb when he is forced to to reschedule a big speech by a republican leader.
I think the dumb thing was picking the date of the GOP debate in the first place for a non-emergency speech. Picking Presidential nominees are a big part of the political process, and we ideally want voters to be informed. The debate theoretically is a big part of introducing the country to one party's candidates - unless it was absolutely necessary to do on that date, it was stupid to try to get in the way of that process. The whole thing could have been handled better by everyone, but the original date should have never been picked in the first place.
I am not sure, the Republicans are playing brilliant politics. They know that the blame will all go to the president. Most of these republicans are in safe districts, and if a Republican president gets elected, he'll actually sweep in more republican congressional candidates - meaning they will gain seats. I have to hand it to their strategists, they are playing their cards very smartly to gain political power.
safe districts? the congress was just democrat two years ago and the congress has the lowest approval rating eva
There isn't a person in the country that's going to vote for or against Obama because he moved a speech by one day, about 450 days before election day. No one's even going to remember this - it's a complete non-story.
My guess is, they knew exactly what they were doing and possibly happily accepted for just that reason.
