I'm frozen. I just don't understand someone not checking in before bedtime or first thing in the morining when they know a draft is going on. And if you're gone and not gonna have computer access, at least send a list for a couple of picks, so we can feel like the draft is moving. Maybe a strict 10 hour time limit is too harsh, but a time limit of essentially 20 hours is too lenient. Pimps and Heaths suggestions sound fine to me. I doubt anything will happen now, but I'll make sure to bring this up next year when we start the draft.
Personally, I think that next year we should do a live draft. We've never done it that way, and I'd like to see how one of those works. If we plan it well in advance, we should be able to pull it off.
I'll go ahead and put in my "no" vote for the live draft. P.S. - Sorry if you thought this was chrisjent picking.
Maybe it's just me, but we seem to go through this same routine every year with the same people. We all agree to let the same people(no offense to the pokey ass peeps ) in again and again, so in a sense we only have ourselves to blame. Basically we're all being impatient and just need to agree how we're going to deal with it. I think time limits in place are sufficient for keeping things moving along to a timely finish, which when you look at it is all that matters. Finishing tomorrow isn't going to make much of a difference than if we finished a day or two before the season starts.
Ok, I'm out of here for a about 2-4 hours. I forwarded a small list to Pimp. P.S. - Sorry if you thought this was chrisjent picking again.
How about I just make it easy on everyone and make all of yall's picks from here on out. I hear Serge Zwikker, Chris Jent and Dan Laghi just came out of retirement and are looking for a fantasy team to pick them up.
First off, my bad. I checked in around dinner time and thought it'd get back to me by late evening. I had every intention to check in before going to bed as I do every night. It's no excuse, but being Friday night, I didn't get in until late, and my previous best intentions were lost on me until I awoke this morning knowing that I was likely on the clock. Anyhow, no need to ramble on. Carlos Arroyo (G) Ricky Davis (F)
SSG was signed on when I posted the picks. Hopefully he'll return soon. Cat, you can send me a 2 player list if you're planning on signing off.
Quick response to the "its always the same folks that hold us up argument..." Since we've been held up twice in this draft, its obvious this comment was aimed at one of two people. That being said, as previously mentioned I take responsibility for holding us up (many hours of which, few, if any, of us were awake), but to assert this is a pattern would be far from the truth. A similar post was made a few years back in the baseball league ("it's always the same guys...") and in response somebody made a chart with the average draft times. I fell somewhere in the top 5 out of 12 people. Further, this is the first time the clock has lapsed on me since our first leagues back in somewhere around 2001. Just because a poster is not signed on at all hours of the day (or if they chose to lurk instead of posting when they are signed on) does not lead to the assumption that they are slow or disrespectful of the other owners. Usually I leave a list, this time I didn't. It happens. You would think after doing this for so many years, by this point, it would stop being such an overblown issue. Chill out. Every league this comes up...every year its somebody else that slows things down for the time being...That's why there is a time limit, it keeps things moving better than the complaints...I played with most everyone in this league for a number of years and I trust if they haven't made a pick there is a reason why...every year though there's a few people who are just a bit too anxious...yet in the end, every year we finish with more than enough time to spare.
Ahhh, shut up and pick already.......when it gets back to you're pick I mean. You're pretty reliable about making your picks mid to late evening in any league we've both been a part of. I think some of us were "bothered" that it got held up a whole evening. The rest of us just like giving you a hard time.
Jent, it's fine. It's more the timing of it that was more annoying than anything, after we had just gotten through an owner nearly timing out on 2 picks not too long ago. As far as the history thing goes ... I seem to recall you taking a while in some of the earlier drafts of the bball and footy, but I don't think it's been anything too excessive. I believe in the footy draft this year you were prompt on all your picks. I don't know nothing bout no baseball.
Because I have nothing better to do with my Saturday afternoon, and I'm worn out from playing ball this morning... I counted Bob and Pimp's picks together as one pick. Average Time on the Clock (in hours): BobFinn* - 2.25 PhiSlammaJamma - 4.48 Heath - 1.2 Behad - 1.52 CriscoKidd - .96 fadeaway - .95 The Cat - 1.98 Summer Song Giver - 1.9 Dr of Dunk - 2.11 SmeggySmeg - 1.07 moestavern19 - 1.74 DarkHorse - .625 chrisjent - 3.53 RocketsPimp - 1.25
Just woke up from my nap, checked the board, and saw DoD took Jarvis Hayes. b****. I have to get ready for work, so I don't have time to research if this is the best player to tak at this spot. Oh well. Caron Butler
