Another one of Bob's posts in another thread got me thinking. Does anyone else see a potential problem with this "no game limits" combined with "total points" scoring system? Like others have said, it seems like it's a big rush to see who has the most games and start them (at least where talent levels are similar). Is there a way we can have "average points" over a week be used instead? Or do you guys not see this as being a problem?
It would be a problem if I had chose "Daily lineups" instead of weekly. With the daily lineup change eveyone would put in guys who were playing every night. With the weekly lineup it should be balanced. I could go with the average for the week setup, if thats what you guys want to do. I don't see a problem with our current setup however.
I think, over the course of a full seven days, that number of games will equal out close enough to not make a difference. Sure, you gonna run into a "Shaq Attack", where Shaq has 5 games in seven days. However, The Cat, under a "game limit" scenario, would not pull Shaq out anyway. All 82 games of his game limit would go to Shaq, assuming he plays them all. So, does Cat pull a "3 game a week Shaq" for a "5 game a week J. Oneal"? Doubtful. It will average itself out over the course of the season. I'm against the average method. Players with 2 games a week have an advantage over players with more games in the week. The goal is to score more points than the other guy.
I did like the game limit aspect because it tested your GM skills to the very limit, but aside from the few huge players like Shaq/Garnett, you still have to manage the rest of your team if certain players have more games than others.
did a quick check of this weeks match-ups no one has more than a 2 game advantage, which is handy but not that decisive.
Ok, I'm with you guys whatever you pick. Just throwing possible problems out ahead of time. Total points it is (unless otherwise-voted)...
Going with averages would favor teams with players who get hurt a lot. If Shaq has a great game, but then breaks his leg and can't play for the rest of the week, he'll still have a high total. Picking players for their durability is a big part of drafting. One of the main reasons I took Malone is because he doesn't miss games. Therefore, I think we should stick with total points.
I'm guessing if Shaq breaks his leg, he'll be out for more than a week and his GM is going to have some problems. Not to mention, I don't know of too many players who get so hurt, they play 1 or 2 games a week, then miss the rest of the week, then come back and do the same thing again repeatedly throughout the season. I think this'll be one of those where we'll see as the season progresses. If nothing else, we'll learn for next year.
Well, duh. That wasn't the point. Substitute "breaks his leg" with "rolled his ankle" or any other arbitrary injury if confused. Maybe not, but there are players who tend to take one or two games off every couple of weeks and end up missing about 10-15 games over the course of a season. This is a big drag for fantasy sports GMs who spend hours (or minutes) measuring stats and planning out intricate schedules. Examples of players who tend to miss occassional games are: Marcus Camby, Sam Cassell, Nick Van Exel, Stephon Marbury, Jason Kidd, Scottie Pippen, etc..
That is in the past for Stephon, I have a personal pledge from Steph that he will play 80 plus this year and is really excited bout a first round playoff exit.
I went ahead and made the trade between Pimp and SSG. Wasn't sure if CBS does them or I am supposed to do them. This way they can adjust their lineups for opening night. SSG, you need to waive a player from your roster.
Why would you care? It's not like that lineup you're fielding would win anything but an obituary at a mortician's convention. ... oh damn, Doc's talkin' trash this year.
I'd respond with some trash talking of my own, but looking over your lineup, I feel too sorry for you to do that.
I wonder who Pimp is eyeing up on the waiver wire. He wanted to do the 2 for 1 trade to open up a roster spot for someone. hmmmm....
What does everyone think of Song and Pimperino's trade?? For those who were living on another planet it was Spree and Stockton for Reef. for me it seems to help both of them, it give Song some solid depth at guard and for Pimp it gives him another stud although it makes him really thin and who knows how Reefs numbers will be this year with better players around him
