OK, anyone interested in replacing rawool? I should have known better than to let someone in San Antonio into the league
Okay.. I've been looking into the position "official list" issue, since I'm the one who opened up this can of worms, and I have come to agree that both Yahoo and NBA.com are flawed in their own way. On the other hand, I feel that the ESPN fantasy site has a pretty good list in terms of position eligibility, and their list is specific. (they never say "F" or "G") If a player is eligible at more than one position, they list both. I'm proposing ESPN as the "authority" on the matter, so that we don't have to concoct any list of our own. Here's a place to start: http://games.espn.go.com/fba/livedraftresults?position=ALL
Yahoo lists all their positions. I remember KG being PF,SF. They added SF last year after about a month or so.
The problem is, like was stated earlier, in many cases they just do something like FC. Which is very unhelpful. They also tend to be a little liberal with their position assignments. (I remember Cliff Robinson used to be listed as a Center)
a couple years ago when Boris Diaw had that awesome season, he gained position eligbility at SG,SF,PF,C... it was pretty funny actually. Yeah, I think I like the espn compromise idea, because it would be a pain in the ass to have to make a list based off the yahoo positions.
OK, we have our replacement, a returning vet from a few years ago. He won't be able to make any picks until Thursday afternoon though. I'll go ahead with the lottery tonight and depending on the order, start the draft immediately afterwards. Worst case scenario we'll hold off until tomorrow afternoon or evening to get started with drafting. I'll keep everyone posted.
Just to make sure we're all on the same page, we're using ESPN (main player page, not the draft results page) as the end all, be all for player positions. Once we begin, we are not changing it, so if you have any issues with using ESPN exclusively, speak up now.
As a final update for the league details: There will be a 12 hour time limit per pick to begin the draft. I highly encourage everyone to send a list to either myself or someone that picks behind you. If you are at the end of a round where you pick twice and you are skipped, you are skipped for both picks immediately. That's the price you pay for getting to pick back to back. The draft is live and SLOW, so expect delays. We always get through this with a day or so to spare and I expect the same this year. If necessary, we will shorten the time limit as we get closer to the start of the season. Here is the lineup/scoring system: 12 active players per roster. 1 IR spot for an injured player. 5 starters (C/PF/SF/SG/G) and 3 flex players per game. Scoring Rules: Points 1 Assists 2 Rebounds 2 Steals 2 Blocks 2 Three Pointers Made 1 Turnovers -1 Technical Fouls -3 Regarding the playoffs, since there is always the real problem of teams sitting players at the end of the season for the playoffs, we will bump our semi's and playoff up 1 week (eliminating the final real game or two).
My only beef with not using the ESPN fantasy positions is the fact that the fantasy positions are, obviously, more fantasy centric. For example, Vince Carter is listed as a SG/SF on the fantasy site, which I think is correct. However, on the main site, he's listed as a SG since that's the primary position he starts at. On the other hand, Yahoo would list him as a G/F, making it ambiguous as to whether he's anything from a SG to a PF. To me, the ESPN main site is about the same as NBA.com.
Good point. Is there somewhere on the site that lists multiple positions other than only on the individual player card on the page? If not I guess we don't have much of a choice.
The best list I've found is roughly equivalent to the Yahoo rankings. In fact, I would kind of recommend that we just use the ESPN default rankings instead of Yahoo if someone's time limit expires to eliminate confusion and redundancy. http://games.espn.go.com/fba/tools/projections It seems to do a pretty decent job of organizing by position.
F does not mean you can play PF. You have to be a PF to play PF. There is a separate F position which makes sense, you start the stats you want.
Sorry for anyone that was in the chat. The internet connection I am using here in Houston has been very spotty over the past few days. Let's hold off on the lottery until Thursday night when I am back in Austin and have a reliable connection.
How about just doing it and posting it here whenever you can? You can start the actual draft on Thursday, but it would really help with planning to find out the draft order now.
Works for me. Here is the draft order: 16 - ChrisJent 15 - Shaggy 14 - PSJ 13 - SamCassell 12 - Matador 11 - Ziggy 10 - Rocketball 9 - Longhorn Fan 8 - Darkhorse 7 - l3buddah 6 - RocketsPimp 5 - Moe 4 - Flint 3 - Fade 2 - nWo 1 - Ben "The Vet"
