Landry is as good as signed with us now. People need to remember that Landry is one of Morey's best finds. Morey is not going to let that go over a measly 3 mil per. Maybe nobody noticed, but furing the 22-game streak last year, the wheels started to come off on that deal when Landry got hurt again. After that it was a struggle, and the crash was inevitable. If Les is worried about the cost of this added with Dorsey and Deke, he can just forget signing Deke to play, sign him to a 'personal services contract' a-la Nolan Ryan, give him as much or more than he would have gotten as a player, have Deke's face *everywhere*, reap all the same PR rewards as if he was still playing, Deke gets money to help his homeland. Dorsey can be the backup 5, probably at least as effectively as Deke was. Everybody happy!
You can't just sign a three year deal with the first two years using a minimum exception and tacking on the last year with MLE money. It's one or the other, a two year deal at the minimum or a three year deal with part of the MLE. They were just waiting to see if they'd have MLE money leftover after landry.
Who are these teams that are trying to trade a $3 mill backup center that's gets more blocks and rebounds than Mutombo?
Well...uhh....considering we didn't even really use Landry until Yao went down, he never had a chance to hit the rookie wall. Bye, bye Landry. Unfortunately this business is all about money, and lots of it. And to get paid, he needs a chance to develop and prove his worth. However, I don't see Shane's minutes decreasing much. I see Scola's minutes increasing. Artest will get 35 minutes a night. Same for Yao. Barring injury, where does that leave Landry? I totally see why he would leave unless we're willing to give him the MLE max for the max time. Which, knowing our history with PFs and injuries, is not worth it to us. I don't see him returning. BTW, can we use our MLE at any point during the season?
The exception is 5'5. I think match this offer would mean the goodbye to Dikembe. Theres no space for him earning around 2 millions. Even so, if Landry is in optimal physical condition, I would match the offer.
I actually like Buddy Baker's comments. They seem to indicate to me that Carl will be back with the Rockets. These are not the type of comments you make when you don't care about burning bridges...
A lot of people are talking about how since Landry didn't play much in the first half of the year he didn't really hit the rookie wall. Remember the rookie wall is as much mental as physical, something that he wouldn't have been used to in the last 4 years in purdue, especially considering they weren't that good in his time there. How can people possibly say that Dorsey could do the same things Landry can? The guy hasn't proved anything, I love how people believe he can hit the medium range jumper cuz he said he can, only if we believed every player when they said what they are capable of on the court! Last point is, there is a few (not many now) that are talking about how come he wouldn't take less money to play for the rockets? Now I've been a rox fan since 87, but no way would I take less money (substantially less from the rumours I've read about Landry) to play for a contender. How many people wouldn't want to have their salaries doubled!!!? The reason they haven't signed dorsey is cuz they want to lock up Landry before Dorsey & also they are probably looking to sign him to a longer deal so that they don't have to go through similar situation they are with Landry. I think Landry's knee's are fine, does nobody remember him against the Jazz, he was the lone player that stayed with the jazz physically!
im hoping there are bro cuz we need a center id i dont care about blocks i care about scoring and lightening the load for our giant yao ming
Even if we couldn't trade Landry for a C, the guy is an asset. Morey loves to stock up assets - and even if Landry doesn't play more than 10-15 mpg, it's worth paying him $3mill per season - who knows what frontcourt injuries will hit us, let alone other teams. The more bigs who can play the better. Worst case is that it builds up our stash of tradeable assets!
Landry was in the rotation well before Yao went down and he played NBDL for most of the time before that. And BTW you'll be proven very wrong quite soon.
Just for clarity sake, last year Aaron Brooks and Steve Novak played in the NBDL, Carl Landry did not. DD
I'm not going to jump and do a rain dance, but I think the rox should have been proactive when dealing with the landry contract. I thought they should have set his value, make a offer and give him 7-14 days to take it at the start of free agency. I think 3yrs at 2.25 per was his going rate to me. People will point to Turiaf, but Rony plays 2 positions. So basically he makes 2m for backup 4, and 2m as a backup center. That's why I thought the rox should have offered Rony 4 yrs 16m to basically do that. 2m as scola's backup and 2m as Yao's backup, problem solved. Let landry walk, trade hayes, and bring deke back and now the 4/5 problem is solved plus you've opened 2 roster spots.
You win by stockpiling assets, who cares about the Lux tax, no one here is gonna be affected by it. You win by having assets to play or trade when called upon. Landry is an asset.....you have to match. It is fairly simple really. DD
There's a 110% chance morey matches. The contract is dirt cheap and artest will be gone next year for more money.
LOL that's not your or your namesake's call We'll match, and welcome back. leebigez, I'm glad Daryl Morey doesn't think like you and I'll leave it at that. DM's moves > leebigez's ideas
Didn't see this posted in the past 2 pages: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/p...n=6&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=6.1.1 Breaking News: Carl Landry Signs Offer Sheet With Bobcats HOUSTON -- Restricted free agent forward Carl Landry signed an offer sheet with the Charlotte Bobcats, said his agent Buddy Baker in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. NBA sources told Fox 26 Sports the offer sheet will pay Landry $6 million over two years with a team option for a third season worth $3 million. Landry, who has played one season with the Rockets, had worked on a one year contract with no option. However, since he is a restricted free agent the Rockets have seven days to match. "Carl has signed an offer sheet with the Bobcats," Baker said. "Carl feels great about the situation. He thinks the Bobcats are an emerging team. "Carl appreciates his time in Houston and understands the collective bargaining agreement gives the Rockets seven days to match." Baker also said his client would have no problem returning to Houston. "If the Rockets decide to exercise their option, Carl would be equally excited to be with the Rockets," Baker said. Baker would not divulge terms but did say the offer sheet witth Charlotte will put Landry on par with a high lottery pick. Landry was taken by the Rockets in the second round of the 2007 NBA draft out of Purdue. In 42 games last year with the Rockets, Landry averaged 8.1 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game.
