If we don't retain Francis, does his salary still count against us? Is it possible to negotiate a buy out so that it doesn't count towards luxury tax?

I'm wondering if Les is willing to capitulate if it's just a couple of million. Yeah, it's not our money, but he has to see the very huge opportunity in front of him and Landry is a pretty skilled and athletic part of it. We are unable to go over the mid-level exception for Landry, but if Charlotte signs him to an offer sheet at or below, I think Morey will match it, unless there really is something going on with that knee.

Besides, Landry will get the same amount of mins at Charlotte for a loser as he would with the Rockets who will contend. We'll see what he does.

if we have to dip into the MLE to re-sign our own RFA how would that effect us towards the cap? i thought the MLE was designed to give every team at or above the cap to sign a player or players without further penalization of the cap

I agree. I doubt this is what Landry was asking the Rockets for. This is basically the dream contract imo.

The thing is, Landry probably wouldn't have experienced the rookie wall as much since he didn't play a lot of minutes and IIRC, extremely few during the first third of the season. I think the post-knee decline is a legitimate concern, but would take the risk and match the offer.

I'd just let Charlotte get him. Then you can sign Dorsey and Deke with no money problems (Deke wanting more money and all). Dorsey and Landry are the same players. Not only that but you save money on this situation. (Dorsey to a 2yr with option).

also where is the link or proof that his knee was a bluff?

We wouldn't even have to worry about the luxury tax if not for that god awful francis contract. Sure it's chump change, but so is landry' contract. The difference is francis is a bum, but his contract takes up 2.4 mill of buffer room to the luxury tax. I still can't believe morey signed him and it still remains morey's biggest blemish to date.

We have to match the offer, we need that athletic offensive presence in the paint (something that dorsey cannot do or has not proved yet). Come on Morey!

Exactly what I wanted to pay for him. Let's match this offer on the 7th day and begin talks with Mutombo.

This is absolutely great news. Charlotte is doing us a favor in signing Carl to the offer sheet. For 3 mil/per, we have a great dealing in Landry. Morey would definitely match, no doubt about it. Now we have a very solid PF rotation for just 6 mil combined - that must be some sort of a record.

Fans were raving about him. That move really sold tickets.

They didn't sell much better last year did they? I don't remember reading about improved ticket sales.

Sign him. And to the poster that said Dorsey brings the same thing... dorsey hasn't proven anything in the NBA yet. Landry was a rotation player and a key to the rockets winning game 3 and game 5. He's worth 9 million for 3 years... Just look at the nba salary list. He is clearly better than most players earning 9 million 3 years. Hell even bruce bowen earns more.

Diop makes like 5 mill and he's a scrub. Turiaf makes like 4 or 5 mill and he's a male cheerleader.

It was a low risk move at the time and you never know he just may comeback.

This makes me laugh. Dorsey hasn't proved anything in the NBA yet. I wonder why. A year ago at this same time neither did Landry.

I dont understand how people dont look at future either. Like everyone wants to say in the luxury tax forever or something. Always thinking you can give up a non needed player for cap space.

Once Dorsey comes in you will see that Tmac will make Dorsey look just as good as he made Landry look for the most part.
