Sign Walker? Jesus, if Bobby Simmons gets 9+ million, Walker is not going to just settle for the MLE. The last thing we need is to make a desperation move and get a guy we don't want anyway. Better to save the cap space.

They can renounce that qualifying offer and reclaim that space, though. I wouldn't be completely surprised if they did, but it would make things interesting...Kwame would become an unrestricted free agent, but wouldn't really even be able to negotiate a sign and trade (Washington would no longer have rights on him). My guess would be Atlanta would be all over the hometown boy in that case.

The latest rumor also has Cleveland going after Udonis Haslem. Sorry Drew Gooden, 14-9 will have to make way for 11-9.

I'll just say nice coup for the Bucks. They're mortgaging the future, but it's nice to see them taking steps forward.

    What cap space?

For 06/07 We will have T-Mac 16.9M, Howard 6.4M, Yao ~12.5M, Sura 3.8M, James 3.7M, Head 900K, 2006 #1 pick ~800K if we resign Deke at 2 year 6M that is 3M. That is 48M already. If James opts out that is 44.3M.

Are you saying we should stand pat for the entire 05/06 season to have 7-8 million in cap space next summer?

I actually knew that but didn't think it would happen. They can always trade KB for a 2G.

If Cleveland gets Haslem then Gooden must be available. Then how about Gooden for Mike James straight up? Or Wesley + #1 for Gooden.

According to macfan, Gooden has some kind of ADD, can't be counted on and T-mac knows about it. That's why his production is so up and down. I guess the fact that Cleveland is angling for Haslem (when Gooden has just as good numbers if not better) gives a bit of credance to that suggestion.

May be true, but on the other hand, Haslem and Gooden could play together...especially if Z doesn't re-sign with Cleveland.

Simmons contract seems a little high, but what we're clearly seeing this offseason is an emphasis on athleticism and guard play. People are looking at the Suns, the Sonics, Dwayne Wade's breakout performance, etc. and saying the NBA is becoming less dominant on big man, and more dependent on an abundance of highly athletic guard type players.

The funny part is going into next season one would still have to put San Antonio and Detroit at the top of the list, and both teams are nothing without their frontcourt.

This is almost as bad as the bulls signing eddie robinson for a long term contract based on what he did during the second half of one season.

Gooden and Haslem are different kinds of players. I think Haslem is pretty smart pickup for Cleveland as he is more of a steady workhorse 4. Not as offensively gifted as Gooden, but maybe maybe more of a role player and more physical in the trenches.

Also Haslem might be the best value of the young PFs and is a smart target for Cleveland (or Atl, or Milw, or No). If a team under the cap signs him a little over the MLE Miami I think has to give up their entire MLE to match and gives them limited options (No Daniels, no DM, maybe no Damon J, etc) through FA for the right to match under the new CBA, I bet they wouldn't. Haslem would come a lot cheaper for Cleveland than the other young PFs.

Further, I think Cleveland still signs Z. Having Z,Gooden and Haslem would give them a much improved trio of bigs, I think there is plenty of PT for the three of them.

Key thing with Cleveland is they need shooters. It was why I was so surprised they went for Hughes over Simmons or Johnson. But I forgot they picked Luke Jackson last year and he was injured. If he or Pavlovic can give them consistent wing shooting with 3 range, all their moves make a lot of sense and Lebron should have all the pieces to make an elite team if Lebron is as good as Nike (the company, not the poster) thinks.

IF they re-nounce his rights, they can't negotiate a S&T? How is Memphis able to do that now with Swift, since he's a UFA?

Simple. Memphis hasn't renounced Swift yet. They still hold his Bird Rights, and can sign and trade him if they want. Until Swift signs with another team or Memphis renounces him, he will have a salary hold on Memphis' cap. Not that it makes much difference to the Grizz since they are over the cap.

Bobby Simmons never really had a shot at playing time in L.A. until last season. This isn't the typical guy playing well in the contract year. He took advantage of an opportunity that just happened to coincide with being his contract year.

$9mill is a bit much though.

Miami would simply match. Only teams under the cap can even try to get Haslem from Miami by making such a match much more painfull for Miami. We never had a chance for a strait free agent signing of Haslem, even if one brother was willing to do that to another.

Agreed, but Jeff isn't going to rob Stan.

    PG - T.J. Ford
    SG - Michael Redd
    SF - Bobby Simmons
    PF - Joe Smith
    C - Andrew Bogut

    PG - Mo Williams
    SG/SF - Desmond Mason
    PF/C - Dan Gadzuric

That's definitely a playoff team in the East. Depending on how well Bogut does (and what the Bulls and Cavs do in the offseason), they could be top 4.

I like what Larry Harris is doing, signing young, hard-working players to long terms contracts. I think that replacing Terry Porter with Terry Stotts was an idiotic move, but aside from that, I think he's done a good job.

Don't be suprised when Milwaukee offers a sign and trade to Portland to acquire SAR for D Mason either...

now that would give them a nice line-up

the simmons contract sure is a tad over priced, but we say that have ever year, during free agent signing, if they can add some grunt at the 4 the bucks could be very competitive, maybe Evans from the sonics would be a nice fit

That actually is a great idea. I mean if I am Portland I would LOVE to get my hands on Mason for a S&T SAR instead of NJ just offering perhaps a 1st round pick and their 5M Trade Exception for SAR. Portland could use a 2/3 with height and Mason can give that to them plus he is a high chararcter guy something tha francise desperately needs.

Mason is clearly expendible in Milwaukee with the Simmons signing. Dont forget they also have Jiri Welch on the bench that can play the 1/2 as well.
If the Bucks got SAR they would have a pretty good offensive team. A front line of Bogut, SAR and Simmons is pretty versitle. And I am sure TJ Ford can get them the ball. SAR and Bogut download could do some damage in the East and Redd/Simmons can keep teams honest from the outside.

Great trade suggestion! One of the better ones I have seen.
