Maybe Boban was brought in to be the locker room neutralizer since Brooks is clearly going to be amped way more than normal after that Canada over USA debacle in the Olympics.
Boban definitely was brought on board to further keep things fun, constructive and serious at the same time for players like Jabari. He and the others liked him a lot.
I don't really understand this move. I know everybody loves Boban, but he couldn't even get on/stay on the court when we were the worst team in the league. He's simply not a good basketball player. I have to think there is somebody out there who makes more sense. Isn't Bismack Biyombo still out there? He's not great, but I'd have more confidence in him in a backup role than Boban.
I would use him just to run over Wemby a few times a game. But he can’t play long because he’s slow af.
i dont hate boban. i would just rather have a player who is going to contribute on the court in the event something bad happens to the children.. Im glad Houston getting another vet though.
Whoever we sign at this point is not going to have a backup role. Our rotation is set. We have a couple of starting vets in VV and Brooks and a bunch of young and promising guys that need minutes to be developed. We have two backup vets in Jeff Green and Landale. That's pretty much it. No need to get another mediocre vet that's more than a minimum contract to sit on the bench or take minutes from the kids. Boban is the perfect 15th guy to keep everybody happy.
In practice, if the guys can shoot over Boban, that'd be a good feat. Plus if it was someone young instead, there'd be pressure from a segment of the fan base to play the 15th guy. For minutes allocation, Boban won't lobby for minutes.
I wasn't viewing Green as a backup center. I was just thinking of Sengun and Landale in that spot, with spot minutes from Jabari. And with Landale having already suffered an injury, that seemed a bit thin.
The front office brought Boban back because he is a large intimidating person. In case of violent threats from KPJ, they have a guy more than big enough to stop him from acting out. On paper, it's veteran presence, in reality, he is the team's bodyguard against KPJ.
I hope your grave states, “Here lies a man that hated soup lovers”. After Boban dunks on Shaq to win game seven of the NBA finals, I hope this thread zombies properly like a southern gentleman.
