I know it doesnt make hima true PG, but I was just saying that of all all the guys on our team, James is a true PG. He does take some stupid shots, and doesnt see the court sometimes, but thats the part of his game he needs to work on. We need to hang on to him though.
I want Sura to stay. As well as he played banged up, I'm excited about how well he'll play next year. There are very few true point guards.
BANGED up is right....1 off-season isnt going to make that big of a difference for a 33 year old. Yes he has heart. Yes he rebounds. Yes he has fire. BUT, at 33 im not sure he will ever be "healthy". As we saw in the play-offs, he isnt quick enough to defend PGs. That has a domino effect on the whole team....(Terry drives by Sura, Yao helps and that leaves Dampier free for a dunk or an offensive put-back).
Disagree. As mediocre a passer as Sura is, he still was a significantly better distributor of the ball then James. Neither are good though, and as such, T-Mac became the point forward for much of the series with Dallas.
Well thanks Captain Obvious....they are 2 TOTALLY different players. Sura CANT beat anyone to the basket so he has to distribute the ball. James can blow by anyone!! So of course Sura is going to be the better distributor.
I think Sura is ideal off the bench actually with his toughness and crazy dribble. I watched a lot of him in Atlanta where he was playing helter skelter basketball and and free reign to roam all over the place. He was very effective and has a great nose for the ball obviously. Ideally, with him coming in with the 2nd unit and playing that style could be very effective with a traditional point to start the game and run the offense by getting the ball in to Yao and TMac. When the 2nd unit comes in, and we have to take out either Yao, TMac, or both, then he would be most effective with his improvising offense.
and end of story... Sura Knows his role. James thinks hes some superstar. Let sura jack up 15 shots in a quarter, and im sure youll see him having one or two good games in the playoffs.
You're the one claiming that James is a "true PG", at least more so than anyone else on the team, when that couldn't be farther from the truth, and it was proved out during the season and in the playoffs. Sura runs the offense significantly better than James. Sura is a better passer than James. James is a better ballhandler than Sura. James is a better defender than Sura. Furthermore, you are confused about the term "distributor,: especially in regards to a "true PG." The ability to blow by anyone should make said player, if really a "true PG", a BETTER distributor....see Steve Nash. The fact that Mike was able to constantly get to the rim and attract defenders, but still wasn't even an average playmaker is disturbing. My hope is that it was simply a function of his role on this team, not 100% indicative of his game.
Well said. In addition, there aren't any "true PGs" on this team, unless you say McGrady. Outside that, those with the next best PG ability are Wesley, then Sura & Barry, Mooch. James is a distant 6th. I like the guy for what he brings, but he's not a true PG in any sense of the definition. If it's based on him getting to the rim and handles, why did we bash Steve? He was a true PG! Give me Vince Carter--true PG! A true PG needs to have good passing ability, know who needs the ball where and when, and have a good general understanding for an offense.
Sura MUST stay away from chubby chicks while his back/knees are healing. He should stick with light-weights for the next few months or so
Sura brings some of the competitive toughness, and hard-nosed attitude that we lost when we traded SF3. Remember the forearm to Amare's chest last year? When Sura wrapped up Jush Howard, threw him down, stepped over him and glared, I cheered. That was his biggest contribution this series, and underscores what he does for the Rockets.
...and that is the reason he's better suited off the bench. James takes away shots from TMac and Yao. End of Story. James is great when one of the two is on the bench. But when Yao and TMac are in, James too often dribles down and jacks up a shot. THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. My problem with Sura is he too often looks off Yao when he has low post position. I don't understand it. Maybe JVG is telling him to reverse the ball or something but it drives me crazy. I hope we get a replacement starter over Sura but if we kept Sura and he was healthy, that's fine too.
Agree with the first part. James DOES take some stupid shots. I dont think, nor have I ever said, he should start, but we definitely need to hang on to him. As for Sura. You say you would like to see a replacement starter, and move Sura to the bench......are you saying Mike James needs to go? Or are you saying hang on to both AND sign a starter?
Are we due for another melding of players as we did with Melvin Tato? we need Mob Jura or Bike Sames. though, none of these names seem plausible. *sigh* we're SOL.
Sura isn't good, he did play hurt, but even when healthy... he's not a guard that will help us get to the Finals...
but even when healthy what? When healthy he was the man that kick started this team. It was obvious to those who notice such things that Sura was bothered a great deal by his injuries and was not the same player he was before going on the injured list during the all star break. Sure healthy is a MAN you want on this team.
Sura is good he's our beast..once he gets healthy then we should see that 12pts 9reb 8asts stat more often
I like Sura, wish we could have had him when he was younger. That said, I wouldn't depend on him to build around TMac and Yao.
