I still don't understand either hyper-optimism or hyper-antagonism towards Sura. I completely agree that this guy will never be a full rotational player for us again unless maybe in the playoffs. However, 10-15 mpg from that guy for 2/3 of the season plus the posteason can only be a plus: he is a larger and more physical option at the one, he can rebound well for a guard and plays hard defensively, and he gives us some experience, toughness, and intelligence in the backcourt that Spanoulis, Lucas, Head, and Snuder simply don't have at this stage.

To be honest, my thought is still that this dude has some work to do before he is ready to go. His back and knees have to be healthy, he has to be in basketball shape, and he needs to get mentally back on track for the regular grind.

I agree with both. I don't think they had a great offseason but I'm still excited because they did make a few moves for the better. I like the Battier trade and getting snyder for nothing was good. If we can keep Yao and Tracy healthy, i'm very excited about next season but if either goes down for a long periiod, nobody this season (including james) could save us...Thats why I didnt' understand all they hype of getting James....We didn't need James if the big 2 are healthy..If you recall, he jacked up too many shots a few years back when he could have been feeding the ball to Yao and Tracy.

I think barring injuries, the rockets will be a contender in the west. A few years ago, they were a few peices away from beating Dallas and moving on. Lets hope these additions are the right pieces.

    I agree:

    Battier> Swift
    Snyder> Wesley
    Lucas/Spanoulis>Brunson/Norris
Head and Hayes this year>Head and Hayes last year

This team is better than last year's team. Last year's team was atleast a playoff team that would compete hard in the first round when healthy, but lottery fodder when injured. Next year's team is atleast a playoff team that has a good shot at the second round if healthy. If yao and tracy are injured you can forget it, but that's pretty much true of any team. Can you imagine Miami without wade and shaq for large parts of the season? Phoenix without nash and marion? Dallas without Nowitizski and Jet? Didn't think so.

It's funny that you critique him about his projected lineup and then you have McGrady starting at the 2 and 3 in yours. I will admit that would be a kickass lineup though. :p

This guy was fun to watch, sometimes erratic, sometimes selfish. I swear sometimes he and Wesley would just pass to each other and miss the opportunities when Yao established position. Played too much with his head down. If he can run and dive he will be an even worse liability on D than he already was against bigger gaurds. Love the guy. Love the rockets more.

Juwon, T.E., Sura's retirement money for someone who can replace his heart and Jho's ineffiecencies.

Sorry Bob love your heart but proving something to yourself can sometimes hurt your team now and its future later.

Another thing that I liked about Sura is that he played the same way regardless of his injuries.

In 04-05 we took a nice win streak into the all-star break and Sura was playing lights out through out that stretch of games. By watching him on the court there was nothing to indicate that he was hurting because he was going non-stop each and every game.

It was not until we came back from the all star break that re realized that he had been playing with pain because he had to miss several games after the break to try and get himself together in order for the play-offs.

Sura never signed anything this year. That is an existing contract. Where is Shane on your list. I thought he suppose to be the biggest addition this year.

I fully agree with this assessment. I love Bobby and would REALLY like to have him back playing significant minutes, but I also have my reservations. I guess the best part of this is that even if takes him sometime to work into rotation he will at the very least have a positive effect on the attitude of the younger Rockets. Here's hoping that some of his toughness will rub off on them. :)

DUDE! , if you are not excited about the Rockets at all then why are you a member of CluthchFans? Why don't you join a web site that features the team in dallas or that web site that features that team from san antonio. Right or wrong, Love the Rockets or b**** about some other team some where else.
As far as Sura is concerned, I'm glad to see him back. He makes our team better even when he is not on the court. He possess that one intangible characteristic that any sporting team in the world would love to have--an absolute passion to play the game, what ever it takes.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I think avn81 meant he didn't like the Rockets prospects at all. That's the context I read into his reply. I could be wrong.

Also, you are correct in asserting that the vast majority of posters are Rockets fans. However, the board is not exclusive in this. There are some very respected posters who are not primarily Rockets fans, and that usually is indicated in their user names or sigs.

Instead of indicating a need for anger management class, I suggest your reply should ask avn81 why he believes the way he does. Asking for supporting facts/reasons for an opinion is not only fair but informative on occasion.

Hold your horses. He hasn't played 1 single NBA game since 15 months, before you make bold and arguably stupid predictions, of 3rd best player, let's get back to reality.

I posted this in another thread, but why are you guys thinking of Sura as god? 3rd option? are you serious?

Sura at the MOST, is a rotational player of about 10-15mpg. He hasn't played in 15 months, coming off consecutive surgeries, plays a very physical game(more prone to injuries), already old as it is..at 33 years old, let's see what he is before you say he's the 3rd best player on our team. That's ridicoulous. This is why I am getting mad a lot at fans like this, making bonehead claims.

You don't like people making bone head claims and yet you are making one yourself by saying that,
Considering Sura's statement that he WILL NOT come back unless he can return to 04-05 form. Considering that statement and the fact that he is going giving it one more shot we must conclude that he thinks he can have a reasonably healthy season. A healthy season for Sura and back in 04-05 form means he would be the starting point guard. Whether or not he would be the 3rd best player on the team would be open for debate.

The point is, neither of us knows for sure. You are basically guessing as is the rest of us so why slam Rockets Dynasty for making a statement based on his beliefs when you did the same.

I'm basing it on MY belief? How so? My belief is that he's been injured for 15 months, consecutive injuries, already 33?

No, sorry, that's not MY belief. Those are facts.

I support Bobby in thinking of him wanting to form back into the 04-05 season, but you got to realize, after 2 more surgeries, 15 months of no playing, do you seriously think he'll be back? Now that's my belief.

You are right, in no one knows how he'll perform. But a belief is different from a fact.

Just another wait-and-see story in an offseason full of 'em. Sure do like Sura, though. I have to think it'd boost the emotion of TMac and Yao to have Sura there, all of them having ridiculous injuries last year, each having a desire to turn it around completely. I mean, hell, if Sura can come back from all the cutting that's been done on him, then why can't the Rockets come back from last year's depths this year?

And hey, if things aren't going so hot at the All-Star break, the Rockets can always John Barry him to use his money.

You stated as fact that he would be no more than a rotational player getting only 10 to 15 minutes a game.

Well...that is not a fact, that is just what you believe will happen.

I haven't seen any threads or posts that dispute the fact that he has been out for 15 months with an injury.

And yes. I do seriously think he will be back just based on his and the Rockets comments.

When I mean back, I mean back to his 04-05 form.

That is your own quote. So I guess its ok for you to make any claim you want and of course....it's not a boneheaded claim.

This is the quote that really got me. We are all on here just trying to discuss what is the team is going to look like when the season starts. Basically just passing time until the season starts. But anyone that has a different oppinion than you is just making a bonehead claim.

Maybe Sura will or maybe he will not be back but all indications are that he will be. A week ago I did not think that we would ever see Sura in a Rockets jersey again, but after his interview I have changed my mind. Maybe I will change it again in the future. But if my view is different from yours I guess that will make me a bonehead, right?
