If you are love in with man- that is something of a personal choice. In basketball terms it really does not pan out. There is not much to understand about a B grade PG with blown out knees.
The coach would have to be Rudy (as pointed out this may not play to the longsuit of our beloved coach). It might also affect insurance issues on his contract as well as league rules on the cap. Too bad. Truly, as the idea is human and fine.
Tell me what's so "B grade" about a 6'5" PG/SG that averaged 10-5-5 under Van Gundy and could effectively defend "A grade" point guards and serve as another Battier-style glue guy? Who else would lay an open-field tackle down on Josh Howard to fire up our team? Is Rafer really a threat to nail down three triple-doubles in a row like Sura once did in Atlanta? He's got blown out knees and surely isn't 100%, but why fault people for wishing he were back at even 90%? He was a great fit for this Houston team.
Sura was the man. Even before he became a Rocket I was a fan of the guy after watching him neutralize Steve Francis with his physical defense. As a Rocket, he was a pit bull on the court. He was a smaller, more physical Battier with the mean streak that this team lacked before his arrival and now lacks again after his departure. Was he an all-star? NO. Was he a "B grade" PG? Probably, but the guy made this team better in a way that so many of the younger, stat obsessed fans on this board can't understand. If Sura was back and was 90% of what he was before he would make this team a tougher, smarter and better ball club. Forgive some of us for wishing for the return of a guy who would immediately fill two of this team's biggest needs...toughness and intelligence at PG.
I miss Sura too...but you know what I miss even more? The good ol' days when we spelled 'tuff' like this: 'tough'. I miss those days...
We all know a Sura in our own league games. Guys who are pure gym rants who are so intense that they make every play a battle and every game a war. They inspire greatness in their teammates and strike fear into their opponents.
I've always spelt it 'tuff' but I think I understand what you are saying, I don't think your attacking my grammer but attacking this new-age *** swagger that has invaded the society, and with that I agree, I miss the old-school gritty days aswell
I think this a great Idea even though the guy was here for a short time. I don't think he would be "the only solution" to the current pg situation ( if he was not injured ) but I do like his game style and attitude.
i'm bumping this thread because i really hope sura will at least check in sometime in the last game this year.
Sura is a tough fighter,we need such kind of players.I don't know whether we can see him playing in the court this season. Bob Sura, miss him...
What is all the love for Bob Sura ? He played well for 1 year and got paid well for it. He was hurt when he got here and and has breen sucking on the FREE tit for 2 years to the tune of 6-8 MM. He more than likely knew he would never return (everyone else knew), but declined to retire (medical) so that we could re-coup our cap dollars and try to put them to good use. Props to Bobby for his inspired play when he played, but his detriment to the TEAM has exceeded his contribution, IMO. I realize this is hating on Bobby, but he could have done the 'right' thing instead of the self-centered thing. If I am mis-interpreting the situation or just plain ignorant I know someone will set me straight, but this situation has been a burr under my saddle for sometime.
2004-2005 was the most fun I have had as a rocket's fan since the dream winning rings days. I think without Sura it would not have been so.
Sura is missed because he brought a swagger to the team that is missing. I wish he could at least be allowed to sit on the bench during the playoffs but I don't think JVG will allow him.
