I'm sure if their were "official" pro teams in Oklahoma, they would be your favorite. I can't seriously believe that some of your hatred for the university hasn't rubbed off on the states.
Stoops has achieved basically everything on the college rank. If he wins another National Championship this year, why wouldn't he go on to the "ultimate" testing ground, the NFL? I don't think he's going to stay in college forever, he's too young and good for that. He'll want to test himself on the next level! AND being a Cowboys fan and a Longhorn, hell ya I hope Jerral throws the bank at him! Maybe Mack can finally win "the big one" with Stoops and his coaching staff at Dallas.....
OK, OK, I gotta jump in here. Bob Stoops interviewed for the job at The University of Iowa. He would have succeeded Hayden Fry. He has ties here. He was THIS CLOSE to taking the job. Basically, he thought he was a lock. But our dumba$$ Athletic Director found Stoops a little arrogant and told him "we're going to interview other candidates as well." In the meantime, Stoops took the job at Oklahoma. Let's see: how has Oklahoma's football team fared in the past few years? Anybody? Anybody? While UI has managed to finally reach the Top 15.
The arrogance is confidence, and he has a lot to be confident about today. I believe he is 10-1 against the top 10. Texas' Mack Brown is a measly 3-9.
ND is far from the most prestigious job in the nation. How many coaches from last year gave ND the cold shoulder, until O'Leary and then Willingham, finally said yes? If ND didn't place their academic restrictions on incoming freshmen recruits, then it would be the #1 job in college football. The simple fact remains that there are a lot of great players who want to play at ND, but can't for grade reasons. ND also requires EVERY FRESHMAN to take tougher core classes, such as Calculus. Not too many football players take Calculus in their first 2 years, if at all. As a result, ND can only recruit maybe 1/3rd to 1/2 of the top players they would want, football-wise.
If Stoops wins another title anytime soon (5 years or so), then what does he have to prove? I think he's NFL bound if he wins another title soon. Don't be misled by the "but, he just signed a new contract!" because those contracts are never iron clad. The contract just means that the school will get money compensation from whoever else tries to hire the coach.
Somebody needs to explain to these ND recruits that a caring staff of tutors willl be there helping them cheat, every step of the way.
I know, I know, I should have added a because the entire state of Iowa (we have no pro teams, obviously) was p.o.'d by the University of Iowa's athletic director's stupidity/ignorance. I mean, we almost had Bob Friggin' Stoops as the coach! We're doing OK, finally (#13); but with Stoops, we'd be Top 5. And that's saying something for a team that most high school athletes look past ("let's see: corn, white people, soybeans....oh! Michigan called, cool!")
Mike Stoops would be a great hire for A&M. They need a young, energetic/fiery coach to replace the moribund Slocum. And it would be funny for UT's two biggest rivals, being led by a Stoops bro.
Hey, but who knew? Honestly, I hadn't heard of the guy until he got hired and his first year was 7-5. Also, he may not have had the resources to compete at Iowa as he would have at OU. Speaking of the Big ten, if the traveling situation wasn't so bad, I'd love for UT to be in the big ten. I think we fit in more there. kidrock, valid point with regards to ND, but UF had trouble finiding their guy as well. And, was Tressel OSU's first choice? That's why I'm not so quick to dump Mack. Maybe coaches are more into staying at their program rather than jump to a marquee program. Wonder if he'd want to coach against his brother though? Eh, probably. I don't know how synergistic OU's coaches are, but what would happen if Bob lost his brother and Brent Venables? I've heard Venables may be the hotter prospect. Mike at ATM would make it a bit hard on Mack in recruiting. Your two rivals basically teaming up on ya. Did someone already mention Mike to UCLA yet?
Jerry could buy the state of Oklahoma if he wanted. Do they revenue share in the NFL? I think so. If not, the Arkansas hick would be even richer. Joke time: A colorodoan and a Texan were arguiing about which state had the most money. The guy from Colorado said "Heck, there's so much gold in Colorado, we could build a 6 foot wall of gold around the entire border of Texas. The Texan pauses and says "Hmmm...ok, go ahead and do that and if I like it I'll buy it from you."
That's true about UF. However, the problem with UF, is the fact that they would be replacing a legend in Spurrier (who no coach in America would endear more to the UF alums than Superior), as well as the timing of it. Didn't Spurrier bail out in the middle of January? That would mean whoever came in, would have 2 weeks to recruit (I don't even know if that many, because of recruiting "dead" periods). Also, the fact that they would be recruiting against FSU and Miami. For these reasons, I never saw the UF job to be all that glamorous of one. Though some people like mduke do. As for Mike Stoops to UCLA, that would be a great hire for UCLA. Toledo is way too offensive oriented to ever do more than underachieve at UCLA. Stoops' defensive mind would be a breath of fresh air in the offense-first Pac-10. What would be interesting is if A&M had any interest in Toledo, a former A&M OC I believe.
