Mettenberger looked really bad against the Texans. I think he'll be out of the league shortly.

I think Lynch might be if the Texans were to trade up.

Christian Hackenberg has to have the worst footwork in college football. I'm talking stuck in the mud kinda footwork.

His footwork in the shotgun is terrible, which for some reason, Franklin started putting him in constantly. This led to a ton of errant passes. Out from under center, his footwork is not bad at all. He's a pro style quarterback that, for two years, was stuck in a spread offense. His numbers suffered. Now, people look at his numbers and think he sucks. Let them. He'll be a steal in the second round.

100 times out of 100 I'd trade up into the mid second to take Hack than trade up into the mid first to take Lynch(say, around the 15th pick of each round, as an arbitrary number). Not only will it cost you less, but it's waaaayyyy more of a gamble with Lynch. He played in a purely spread offense and had a good year. Hackenberg played in an NFL offense, as an 18 year old, and had a good year. It's easier for me to see how Hackenberg transitions into the NFL than how Lynch does.

In the end, I still think Hackenberg rises, we take him in the first, and it's seen as a slight reach on draft day. Texans fans will complain that we coukdnhave gotten him in the second round, even though if we missed out, the same sons would be disowning them.

It won't help. That's how he is. Plus, Bob couldn't help Mallet.
Truth be told, Bob may be good at coaching QB's, but he's terrible at choosing them.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle tells Tim McManus of PhillyMag.com that he believes the Texans are tired of starting "retread" quarterbacks and will instead target a quarterback in the draft.

"They want to draft [a quarterback] in the first round. They’re tired of using retreads," McClain said. "They played five this year, started four. Last year they played four and started three. So they need a quarterback, and they want one that they can develop."

McClain specifically mentioned Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg as someone to keep an eye on for the Texans.

"I think Christian Hackenberg is going to end up being reunited with Bill O’Brien," McClain said. "I think that’s going to be their quarterback. I think O’Brien loves the guy. I don’t know that, but I just think he does based on what I’ve heard."

McClain also added that Sam Bradford is unlikely to be an option for Houston, saying: "People that think Bradford is coming here, chances are they’re going to be mistaken."

^My John McClain decoder ring is telling me this:

Basically no Hackenberg and it looks like we are signing Sam Bradford...

I have a feeling that Jared Goff will be available at 22 for the Texans. The only two teams that need a Quarterback so bad are the Browns and the Eagles. I think Carson Wentz and Paxton Lynch will some how beat out Goff at the combine and do better than Goff. I hope that does happen because I like Goff better than any quarterback in this draft.

I hope the Texans don't do anything dumb like pick a QB in the 1st.

Are you aware that Hackenberg's best year was as a true freshman under O'Brien?

As for Mallett, BOB shouldn't be expected to help with immaturity and laziness. Fitzpatrick had his best year as a QB under BOB; so, too, did Hoyer, frankly - until the playoff meltdown. And BOB won games with TJ Yates and Bradon Weeden starting.

I don't know that he's earned our absolute trust - but he's done pretty well so far, and other than maybe passing on Carr (which may have been an owner mandate and beyond his control), he hasn't made egregiously bad choices at the expense of obviously better ones.

There's still the Rams, Eagles, and Jets that pick before the Texans. They all need QBs.

Depending on what happens with Kap, the 49ers could get into the mix as well and doubt Goff would make it past #7 if available.

Nailed it. As did Chilly Pete.

I was reading that Pancakes quote and getting more disappointed with each word.

Ya that 2014 draft was pretty terrible, tough to say how much was on BoB though. Clowney over Mack, Xavier over Carr, trading up for Nix. etc...

I actually think Pancakes may get one right this time. You know what they say about blind squirrels.
