    NFL mantra:
    Win at all costs?

well that is unless you are bob mcnair.

One of my favorites was when mcnair and texans 1st came to town and on the radio any chance mcclain or anyone else it was them preaching what a 'class ownership, class franchise'

based on what? That's like saying someone has good 'poise' what a joke. Also love it when people say that he is a billionaire. So being a billionaire excuses him from being a cheap ass? Riight.. I get it.

As long as we have a cheap ass owner who isn't going to pay then we are destined to be fighting an uphill, hamstrung battle. This ownership is the classic 'play not to win, play not to lose' approach. Starts at the top and mcnair is the constant in the equation folks. Wake up.

Let's look at kubiak. We could try to get a real time coach like cowher but instead we get kubiak? Why you say? well he is doing okay I suppose. same way capers was okay (run, run, pass, punt) but the real reason and the common theme here guys is money. Look no further than that the salaries to find you answer. Kubiak doesnt cross the top 10 in salaries: http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/dollars/post/_/id/719/bill-belichick-highest-paid-coach-again

once kubiak showed half a sign of life mcnair and his cheap ass was on it signing the dude hundred year contract. Yeah that shows commitment you say? Yeah commitment to not paying real top 10 coach money. Lock em in cheap guys. Kubiak is about on the pay scale of where mcnair wants it all. Not in the top 10.

Next there is schuab or whatever his name is. I 'm not sure. and neither was mcnair but he was a 2nd stringer that could be had for a thousand year contract cheap. Sure he might make a lot in 2016 but we can cut him later if we have the stones to spend 3 mill buyout but the main point here is locking in a dude at a low rate for a long ass time now. look at the list as long as schuab is not anywhere near the top ten in qb pay mcnair is accomplishing his philosophy of cheapness.

It's not called being smart and locking them in.. look at it for face value of what it is. cheap. cheap. I call mcnair the 'mockingbird special' because the sound he always makes is 'cheap cheap'

Don't tell me us pulling linebacker scrubs from the street and playing rookies like merciless (yeah cool name I get it) when we lost cushing doesn't make up for the cheapness of not having demeco ryans? Look me straight in the internet face and tell me not having demeco was worth going cheap?2nd round pick huh? nice. what about dressen? would have been nice to have another receiver playmaker to throw to. Remember guys this is about money. has been, always will be.

How many of you are billionaires on this board? Some of you of course are right?? but I dont get the correlation between you joe six pack and why some of you are so aligned with this mcnair cheapo? What is in it for you to have a cheap owner??

    Wait there's more..
What about winston? Let's be cheap and not keep him. We dont need help on the o line right? I mean we got lucky with a gem in foster let's not pay for the 4 year winning window to someone that can help our run attack. wake up.

Class organization that player has to go so far as to ask for a raise and call them out anyone remember dunta 'pay me rick ' robinson?? I swear if we could sign a damaged tony boselli right now we would. Mcnair is loving the collective bargaining agreement where he can take on 1st year guys and UNDERPAY. Seeing a pattern here yet folks?

On to the most irresistible man child (to some of you)our good friend super mario. Well first you have to look back to the time when we had a #1 pick but were too cheap and wanted to pay #2 or #3 money for that pick. What a tough place to be for a cheap owner sitting on a number #1 pick. It could not have been more consensus but mcnair was not having it and doesnt even know what school mario williams went to. Doesnt matter guys .. this is about cheap.. Why you say? not because reggie bush was better or not. It comes down to that magic formula of cheapness that's locking in guys based on' signability' and cheapness.

This is all about having the number #1 pick and weaseling out of paying #1 money. CHEAP CHEAP. Dont take my word for it you can get that straight from our owners cheap ass mouth.. before he took williams at a lower COST:

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fQI4VYb6iGM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

So we have this quandry where we have the most electrifying college player in recent memory on the other side we have a guy that is so cheap he is worried about signability? And what ended up happening? He picked a #3 at #1 paid him number #3 money!!CHEAP CHEAP mockingbird special strikes again !

And for all the hindsighters who love to wang suck williams where is he now? Oh yeah our cheap ass owner couldnt step to the plate and sign the next coming of the messiah over the bills because bottom line mcnair is CHEAP CHEAP.

We are talking about the same owner that takes tax payer money to build parking and rewards the tax paying fans by raising parking prices:

So what kind of scam is that? McNair lends money at what interest rate? And makes money off the interest of that loan(7 million) and then gets the city to use that money to build a practice facility for HIS TEAM ?? And parking that HE CHARGES FOR? what kind of a scam is that?

I want to lend money and make interest off of it ,so that the money I lend can be used to make more money for me ..thankfully I can use that money I lent to expend on other aspects on my business? Umm am I following this right?

Face it folks the whole 'play not to lose' mentality comes from the top and trickles down all the way to our conservative no risk coach to our conservative cheap ass owner. He would field the madison marlins if he could get away with it. Sad part is many of you would sip the kool aid all the way through since it's a sellout every weekend. Truth be told middle of the pack cheapness is okay for mcnair and okay for the city since we are all eating it up day in day out.

Just keep sipping that slogan of class ownership and try to tell me what exactly that means. We need new ownership and someone with the balls to win at all costs. We will be stuck in the mediocrity cycle as long as we play not to lose under this hapless regime of mcnair. Yeah sure it's a business but I hope that we can get a real owner one day willing to step to the plate.

Unfortunately I don't see a way we can since business seems to be pretty good with all these suckers around here. I would ask for a formal letter and petition to get rid of the cheapo owner but instead I will put on my flamesuit. oh well there's always next year?

at least thats what mcnair wants you to think. apparently its working.

no doubt accountability must start from the top, but Rick Smith shouldnt be without blame either.

Arent the Texans like the 5 or 6th most valuable sports franchise in the WORLD? I could have sworn I read that in forbes, could be a year or two old, but for such a good buisnessman, Mcnair lacks football smarts, and the guys he trusts to make those decisions miss more times than they hit when they must make critical football decisions.

Before the year I would have let Jacoby go before Winston. I was terrified at the fact that 40% of the starting offensive line was not retained. nightmare came true.

Demeco traded for peanuts. everyone said he was old and lost a step. look at his stats with Philly and all you can do is wonder how he may have contributed on this team.

Cant pay everyone, I understand that, but you shouldnt overpay 'your' guys just because either.

Good post, I agree with almost all of it.

here you can use this as propaganda, originally for the lockout.

(though he is a really good owner I believe. Loyal. I would love to work for his ministry of panic control)

Bob McNair could be a r****d and make tons on his team just look at the dodgers and kings. McNair isn't cheap either he spends as much as the other owners. There is something called the salary cap which limits what he can spend.

I'm confused. Did the NFL and the player's union decide together last night "Y'know, **** the hard cap. We're going to have a free for all just like baseball!"?

McNair might have issues in make bold moves/changes but he's not a cheap owner.

I feel like I just stepped in a time machine to 6.5 years ago. Someone is actually complaining, in 2013, that the Texans didn't take Reggie Bush?

    1) Gary Kubiak's salary isn't public information, so, we don't know if he's highly paid or not.

    2) Even if he wasn't "top 10" in salary, he didn't deserve to be when he signed his current deal, so what is the problem?

    3) We have no idea if any "star" coaches even want to come here, or how much money they'd ask for.

    4) There's a salary cap and floor in the NFL for players. No owner can qualify as "cheap" on that front.

    5) McNair is a businessman first and foremost, so him making money off the city is pretty much a given, like most other NFL owners.

    6) This is a really dumb thread. Donny out.

Can you really call an owner in football cheap when you face a hard salary cap? Tough choices have to be made by every team.

McNair's problem is the same as Kubiak's...too conservative and loyal. I certainly don't want him to be a Jerry Jones and not give a s*** about who they bring on to the team...but take a risk every now and then.

Makes no sense to call him cheap when the cap situation is the way it is

But I am not convinced he is dedicated to winning

Payroll isn't the issue. The Texans spend plenty. Accountability is the issue.

You want to see cheap? Look up the interview with J-Jo talking about the difference between the Texans and the Bengals. There was a limit on how much Gatorade they could take home in Cincy lol.
