As a ongoing anger management case I can tell you that nothing would set me off faster than some patronizing comment like " gee Bobby , you sure have been on your best behaviour lately" like some kindergarten teacher to her racalcitrant student. The fact is we hate that anyone has any judgement of us because we believe we know best and if you just stay out of our way things will be fine. Besides the dude didn't say it to be a real compliment, he said it to remind Knight that he is the boss and Bobby works for him. Yea well **** him! Bob might have to take that *** at the office but he doesn't have to take it at the ****** grocery store.
The local news is reporting that nothing has been decided. The university wants something done by the end of the day. There are several rumors flying around campus. The one that I've heard the most is that Knight relutantly took the suspension and now he has a 0 tolerance clause like the one he had at IU. I've also heard that hes retiring. Nobody really knows its pretty crazy people are glued to their TV's. I don't believe they would get rid of him, he brings so much money into the school and gives the school nationwide attention. But I guess we will find out soon. There is also a student protest in support of Bob Knight which will take place in the Student Union tommorw morning.
for such a great basketball mind (notice i didn't say coach as that requires communication skills) his people skills are just terrible... this is predictably unsurprising
Yahoo! is reporting Bob Knight will coach tonight against Baylor. Tech will not suspend him. What a shocker.
ESPN's Jay Bilas spoke with Bob Knight just a few minutes ago. No suspension for Bobby. I agree with this decision. It was an argument between two grown men at a salad bar. While i may not agree with what knight did i also don't think the chancellor should have said what he said.
More reinforcement of boorish behavior means that he will pop his top on someone again. But worse yet, he will think he can get away with it, because I think that all of us cursed our boss out......we'd get a pinkslip so fast we wouldn't know what happened. And people wonder why I hate that arrogant SOB. I respect his abilities, but hate the man.
LOL, saw that on ESPN as well. What a joke. So we learn, once again, that Bob Knight can do whatever the hell he wants and never have to face the consequences, unless someone has some balls about them like Myles Brand. Of people that I would like to meet before I die, I would have Mr. Brand on the top of my list.
What did you want to happen to him? It was a dumb incident, but it was a personal issue. Would it have made a difference if it wasn't the chancellor? You don't even know the details of the situation. There are many worse things people can do to be fired.
How about an apology? You can make the argument that the Chancellor shouldn't have said what he said, but guess what? When you have baggage like Knight has (God I hope he doesn't read this board or he will be pissed at me for calling him "Knight"), you should expect people who were roundly criticized for hiring you to say something about the one thing that has caused you problem after problem. What I don't like is what bamaslammer said - this just reinforces his boorish behavior. Bob Knight is a very smart man - maybe one of the smartest I have ever read about in sports. He knows how to push the envelope and I am sick and tired of people acting like a bunch of *cleaned up* pansies towards him. And I know much about the situation as you do, tozai. All we have is what the article said. But do you think it is a made-up story for the sake of sensational journalism?? if that is the case, why is this the first time we have heard about him being in trouble at Tech? Why not all the time? And yea you are right about doing worse things in getting fired such as putting your hands around a kid's throat or grabbing a student's arm, etc.
Here is what I think happened: - The Chancellor recommended Knight be suspended 5 days (like that would stop Knight's behavior)...hence the early media reports. - Knight threatened to resign. - The President and AD met with the Chancellor and Knight separately. - The Chancellor seeing he was outnumbered dropped his recommendation. - Knight wins. All is well or is it?
Okay, okay, okay... SC just showed the top 10 Knight soundbytes (for the 58th time) and they bleeped out all of the 'bad' words. Number one was when he said he wanted his critics to kiss his ass. Well 'ass' was censored. Amazingly when they showed that same clip going to the previous commercial break, it was not bleeped. I tell ya, this censorship stuff is going nuts. ASS ******* CRAP DAMN GOD DAMNIT JESUS CHRIST - how on Earth can Clutch allow such word???
Bob Knight has changed not a lick. I hope Tech fans are happy he represents their school, because this isn't the 1st time he was set off by nothing while at Tech. And he is not the best coach in college basketball anymore. Coach K and Roy Williams among others, including UT's Rick Barnes are better. I'm sorry but I jhave no sympathy for the man. He still doesn't get it, and he passed strike 3 a long time ago. It's not like he can tell the schools he coached look at your NCAA tournament success, because guess what, he hasn't made it past the 1st round in a long time. And until he recruits some better athletes and in particular long range shooters, it won't change. Then why put up with him. Honestly. I wouldn't.
Tech wants a zero tolerance policy now? Give me a break guys. You KNEW the commodity you were getting when you hired Knight. Great coach...will improve the program...will graduate a lot of players...has a lot of baggage. He got into an argument at a salad bar. He did not do anything remotely similar to what happened at IU. This is stupid.
Damn. No offense, but you already sound like a whiny sportswriter. Do you hate Tech that much or just Knight? It's pretty impressive what he's done with that program, whether you want to admit it or not. Coach K and Roy Williams are in a whole different league than Barnes. And this is coming from a fan of Rick Barnes.
No, it's not. Tech is overrated and overhyped, yet again this year. Knight has not yet figured out you need outside shooting in college basketball and it shows in his program. His team annually struggles to beat the Aggies(who lost to their damn sister school in Corpus) and Baylor. They are in another dogfight with Baylor tonight. It was tied at halftime, and this time it was at United Spirit Arena. Thank goodness Tech is up 15 now, about damn time. And as far as Barnes is concerned, did you misread what I said. Barnes was one of the 3 coaches I listed as better currently than Bobby. I never compared Rick to Coach K or Williams, I don't think he's there yet either, but soon he should be. I just don't see that Tech is that much better than when Knight arrived. It's better sure, but they are not that good, and have some glaring deficiencies like a lack of size and 3 pt shooting. They are decent, nothing more nothing less. And all I said was I could understand condoning his behavior if he won Tech something, but what has he done that other good coaches couldn't do? Has he got them into the top 4 of the Big 12? No. Won an NCAA tournament game? No. His vaunted Tech team got taken to the limit by those Big 12 powers A&M and Baylor already this year. Sure they were on the road, but these are two sad sack programs and Tech supposedly has a contender for the Wooden award in Emmett(I disagree). Those games shouldn't be close. He hasn't gotten Tech above being a middling team in the Big 12. They still lag behind Kansas, Texas, OU, OSU, and haven't even approached the level of Snyder's Missouri teams, which is sad considering how mediocre a coach Quin is. They have improved, of course, but my whole point was what has Knight really done for Tech that condones his horrific behavior. And I don't buy the chancellor telling him he has been good lately. How soon we forget he ripped a young reporter for asking a question with the wrong term. He could have just corrected the mistake, instead he went on to make a mockery of the reporter among his or her peers. Really classy. Then you have the expletive tirade earlier this year concerning his relationship with Steve Alford. He's still the same ticking time bomb he was at Indiana. If I saw a basketball team that was truly a threat to win something, I might be more apt to give Knight a second chance, but he doesn't have that team. It's like this year. Tech won 10 straight right? Look closer. The four best teams they beat in the stretch were OSU at home, Minnesota(who sucks in the big ten), Ohio State(who is having a down year) and Iowa, who is just taking advantage of a crappy big 10 but is mediocre too. OSU is a good win, but if that is all the quality wins one has, how good are you really? They lost to SMU for crying out loud. SMU. And I guess you could count Utah as a quality win, but you want to know the best team Utah has beat: Colorado at Colorado. What a great team. And Tech couldn't even beat Texas in Lubbock with Ivey and Boddicker not scoring in the 1st half and holding Mouton in check. Kenton Paulino was the leading scorer with 12 points that night. Paulino lead UT in scoring and Tech still lost, even though they actually had a guy in Marshall, that hit threes(4 of them to be exact), which is abnormal for them. Also where was Mr. best player in the land candidate Emmett, he didn't even get to double figures that night. UT played and shot like crap, and Tech still lost. They were without Tomaszek, but UT played awful, Tech had the game, and blew it nonetheless. Finally, you are right on one thing. I dislike Knight, but so do many other people. But I call teams like I see them, and for weeks I've been calling Tech and Kansas overrated and so far both have proven me right. In fact I've called them overrated for the same reason too: neither team can shoot the ball well from the perimeter, and that is a gigantic weakness. The bottom line is if Tech had actually won something or shown great signs of it while under Knight, I could see why I might tolerate his crap, but the man hasn't won an NCAA tournament game in a decade or so. And he doesn't like recruiting so don't expect the talent level at Tech to get much better than it already is. He is a system coach and it shows in his teams. I'm just calling it like I see it, and I appreciate the sportswriter comment because that is what I will be one day.
Could you imagine what would happen to a player if he ever acted that way to his coach? Bobby Knight's an ass and this just makes me hate Tech basketball even more. Until he's gone, they're up there with Duke on my hate list.
