that guy is hilarious - and a bad ass traditional blues player. Someone who has obviously devoted a ****load of time to it. He says he's in to flamenco these days...
Yep. He tried to sell me Guild acoustic last time I was in there a couple of weeks ago. I sure wish he would get back to performing more often. Seems like he's been on hiatus for a couple of years now.
He's told me he was through performing unless he absolutely has to. From his brief verbal history I can understand where he is coming from. Keeps him out of trouble. But yeah, that guy knows how to play delta blues better than anyone I've met outside of old timers from the delta. He's got it down. A Guild you say? You buy that one - I'll take one of the Santa Cruz acoustics myself... I ran into the owner of Fuller's at the NAMM show. That is by far my favorite music store in Houston but man - the vintage stuff is sure hard to find these days. All of the vintage stores should change their names to "vintage reissue" guitars instead of vintage guitars. Aww, what does it matter. I have to build them myself these days simply 'cause I can't afford them. Sure have been pining for a Jim Kelley amplifier lately though. If I ever find one I'll probably sell my car and pick it up.
Slim tried to sell me the Guild after he heard I was looking for a Gibson acousic (in pretty much any condition save for a hole in the wood) for less than $1,000. I'm still on that hunt. I love the big deep boom of a Gibson acoustic. The only guitars that come close are jumbo bodies. I would LOVE get the best of both worlds...a jumbo body Gibson acoustic. Yes vintage is getting tougher and tougher to find. EBay & Craigslist have too many people looking at them. Houston pawnshops are very hit and miss. You almost have to go to smaller cities to have a chance to get a deal. But I keep looking! I can't help it...guitars are my addiction. I have no children, so my Mom calls my 8 guitars her "grand-guitars"!
