CNN says that Blue Bell tested various cartons that came from various plants. I dont know their set up exactly but assume they have different plants in different locations. Curious as to how there'd be the listeria in various plants... Wouldn't it most likely then be from one of their ubiquitous suppliers? Meaning need to check the suppliers asap?
They have a 2nd plant in Oklahoma which is where this apparently started. That plant has been shut down to figure out the source and clean. You're right, though, they should be looking at the suppliers.
3 people have died and 5 fell ill since 2011 with listeria that might have come from Blue Bell. And, samples from the plants have tested positive for listeria. So far as I can tell, they are definitely responsible for listeria but its hard to say how many deaths they may be responsible for. I went to the store on Saturday and bought some vanilla ice cream. They had signs up saying that all the ice cream sold there was from the Brenham plant and declared them safe. They had a lot in stock there, so I assume people were scared away anyway. I still bought mine, and it's a good thing because there probably won't be any Blue Bell when I go back. As for Blue Bell's quality: of course Haagen Daaz is better. Of course Ben & Jerry's is better. But they charge as much for a pint as Blue Bell charges for a gallon. If my mother was paying my ice cream bill I'd prefer those to Blue Bell too. If you compare Blue Bell to its peer group of every-man ice creams, I think it stands up well.
Sucks for the kids & adults in the hospitals. I know in the hospital, West Houston Hospital, my mom works at they have tons of the single serving individual containers of blue bell icecream they give to patients.
Yesterday was 4/20. Last night I enjoyed a huge bowl of Blue Bell Cookies and Cream with Caramel topping. Today I'm probably going to die now. **** me.
These listeria cases go back to at least 2011. Do you know how many gallons of BB cookie dough ice cream me and my family have consumed since then?
Bought some blue bell ice cream a few days ago. They had a sign up saying it was safe. Should I evacuate Katy?
According to most medical websites only old people or young children die from this. At worst you'll just get a mild case of food poisoning. You're safe! Well unless you're suffering from some auto-immune disease or have an unusually weak immune system.
