I've seen women dressed even less scantily in Malaysia and Indonesia and both those are part of the Muslim World.
[rquoter]Bloomberg brought home the point that the propaganda war now being waged on Islam in America threatens to undercut our counterinsurgency battle for "hearts and minds" in Iraq and Afghanistan. “If we do not practice here at home what we preach abroad–if we do not lead by example–we undermine our soldiers,” he said. “We undermine our foreign policy objectives. And we undermine our national security."[/rquoter] Eloquently put my Mayor Bloomberg.
Yes there is a point, that the Arab world does not = the muslims world, so the sort of viewpoint they have have more cultural influences than islamic influences, yet their influence and oil money have been able to reach the furthest. Infact there are more muslims in Southeast asia than in the Arab world, and you can take of the hijab and where whatever, thats the point when someone said those girls would be stoned in a muslim world, its just not the case, the perception is the arab world is a muslim world and it is not true
Of course they could, since stoning is sooooo common in the muslim world. I mean, you read about it in the news somewhere or watched it on TV so I'm sure people are getting stoned all the time. In the 'non muslim' world (whatever that means) its not like women are victim to crimes at all, right? Fact: statistically speaking, rape and sexual abuse occurs at a higher rate in the US and UK than any 'muslim' country in the world. Over 200,000 cases of rape and sexual assault in the US in 2006. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_rap_percap-crime-rapes-per-capita http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_rap-crime-rapes
Since when did any of you lefty defend the freedom of religion for Chistians, Jews, Hindus or Buddhists?
Huh? Did you understand what point Basso was trying to make? Basso said that in the Muslim World women dressed like that would get stoned. I saw women dressed like that and even less in the Muslim World and they weren't stoned.
How much is "much"? Heck there are parts of the Christian world where women dressed like that would be shunned. Let me add though that I am glad that to see that you acknowledge that all of Islam isn't backward and encourage you to keep that difference in mind.
I am not an expert on Islam but from my understanding women dressed like that even places with Sharia law wouldn't be stoned. They might be arrested but that would only apply to if they appeared in public dressed like that.
i was asking about your equating being shunned in christian countries with being stoned in muslim countries. i'm no expert, but i believe one usually survives a shunning.
I can respond, but sometimes the posters begging for a response are being so ridiculous that it is better to not embarrass them any further.
I feel that everyone is a human being and the sooner everyone figures that out the better we will all become. We need an alien landing and intervention I think.....Toycen, where ya at? Klatu virada nicktau. DD
WRONG... While I agree that most Muslims are not Arab but almost all Arabs in the middle east are Muslim. About 90 percent of Arabs are Muslims, while only about 15 percent of Muslims are Arabs. There are over 1.1 billion Muslims in the world. Also who are the people in power in these Arab/Muslim countries? They are all Muslims and what gives them the perception and right that they can stone someone to death? I believe it is something called Sharia law. Which is the sacred law of Islam.
