To say Shane got the worst doesnt make any sense. Shane's shoulder vs Deron's cheek. I'll take shoulder everytime.

I suspect Dwyane Wade would disagree.

You hit the nail on the head perfectly with that last paragraph...beautifully said, and so true.

Negatory. You can shoot with your face hurt, if your shoulder hurts...you know where this is going.

BUT...it looked more like Shane's ribs a little too didn't it? Well in either case, those areas being injured makes it hard to play ball.

This, like many threads, has all been discussed ad nauseum, but I see no problem with Fran trying to point out the bad part of what went down. Of course this bad part was ... ONE DUDE, audible on the broadcasts, making that "girl" comment.

    Boos? for the refs.

Chants? Rox fans trying to keep the momentum.

Applause? A genuine show of sportsmanship by the majority of a sold out crowd.

Basically, had the Jackass who said that not been heard, the reaction by the crowd was acceptable and appropriate, if not respectful... all while considering the fact that it was a jazzflopper on the ground and that he'd probably go right back in like they do. But since he was heard, Fran's comment seem at least acceptable, and I agree what he says about our fans. We are better than that.

Sidenote: Is it just me or does it seems like every article from Chronicle sports writers is composed of 2 dozen one sentence paragraphs. Very hard to read, no flow, and visually disturbing.

I can tell you on TV there is no way to tell that the fans were booing the refs. It sounded like booing Williams and chanting "Utah Sucks" sounds like it is directed towards Williams.

Look I agree the call was terrible, and the Jazz have a history of flopping but it makes Houston look bad when you see a player from the other team lying on the floor and the stadium booing and chanting "Utah Sucks"

Think about it if the situation was reversed and this happened in Utah. Deron Williams and Battier both go for a loose ball, Shane is down on the ground, a foul is called on Williams, somebody yells "Get up you pansy" and the crowd start booing and chanting "Houston Sucks"

What are you going to think? Are you going to think "well that's OK they are mad at the refs" or are you going to think "Those Jazz fans are classless a-holes." That's what it looks like on TV.

I could careless since it's not like one of the player intentionally hurt the other. Then thats a whole differ story.

Whether one of our players intentionally hurt the other player or not is tangential. Its the crowd reaction to a downed player.

Williams didn't even have a black eye, a busted lip, NOTHING. Shane Battier has had his head split open SEVERAL TIMES this season, and never once did he lie on the ground like a little girl, crying like a b****. I'd be a little understanding towards Williams if he'd actually, you know, BEEN HURT. Maybe if he had a concussion, hell, even a brain freeze I could have given him the benefit of the doubt.

Even the Jazz trainers seemed impatient for him to get up. This is the playoffs. Unless you've been LEGITIMATELY INJURED, there shouldn't be any wallowing on the court. Unless of course you're a member of the Utah Jazz, in which case this is known as a "Salt Lake Timeout."

    "I could NOT care less"

Anyways, I think fans were booing the refs..not Deron Williams or any of the other Jazz players..and they were chanting Utah Sucks..and they clapped when Williams got up. it was a pretty bad-looking collision. i don't think he was flopping on that one, he looked pretty shaken up and out of it.

i agree that blinebury could be hypocritical, but he's right, and hopefully we can realize when it's the right time to be crazy and wild as fans and when to stop and be respectful...

    Go Rockets!!!!

The only problem with what Fran said was the fact that HE said it. He is always a jack@$$ toward everyone, classless, gutless, whatever else he said, so I don't believe he has any right to tell us fans how to act when he is like that all the time.

Sidenote: It's not just you. Apparently Fran and the other Chronicle writers think every sentence deserves its own paragraph.

what the hell man, you mean a bunch of pumped up buzzing rowdy raucous fans, all 18,000 of 'em, should stop and and take a moment of silence.

first of all you are wrong, what it looks like to you and what it was are two different things, your interperetation and reality, and the reality was they were booing the play, it was a terrible terrible call, houston bball fans are smart, they know a bad call when the see one and that got 'em riled up.

theres gonna be a little booing, utah sucks, its the playoffs, its adrenaline pumping, you can't just turn it off and become a bunch of perfect moralistic sishir changs and fran blineburrys. most people aren't as heroic and morally superior as you dudes. sorry, you shouldnt a said houston looked bad.

    you're scary.

having had my clock rung a few times i'm way more sympathetic, doesn't have to be a concussion to feel numbing pain.

I know, I know, but we are better than that. Houston looks bad. That means if you are a houstonian you should feel guilty tonight while watching the Rockets. Go without supper and beer. Repent. Repent. Then we can become smug b*stard hypocrites like the rest of 'em.
