Manny and RMJosh: The ordinance states that WE have to move 20-30 AWAY from the entrance so YOU won't be inconvenienced. If YOU happen to park and OUR DESIGNATED AREA is now in YOUR way, too bad. WE already moved. According to YOU, WE should move AGAIN. I'm not mad, or denegrating you, Josh. Don't take it personally. But you telling me that walking through a waft of second-hand smoke for, what, 2-5 seconds causes you to get ill is highly questionable. Again, if the smoker's are outside 20-30 feet from your office, and you just happen to walk that way to work, find another direction. Besides, as a non-smoker, how often does this come up? 1-2 times a day?
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....how many threads about this have there been... all of the smokers who don;t think that their 2nd hand smoke is harmful to those of us who choose not to smoke can argue with the ocurts once they pass the ordinance and outlaw smoking in all restaurants and bars just like NYC
you must be kidding...if i have a dinner party and there are smokers...they can go outside to smoke...or they can not smoke
Sigh, it was in reponse to Max saying he doesn't want smoker's smoking in his back yard. And your assumptions on second-hand smoke are incorrect, as well. But I'd expect nothing less from the Norheast.
I LOVE watching this thread spiral out of control...it's like rubbernecking an accident, the macabre facination of it pulls you in.
So you like threads spiralling out of control, eh? Well, do I have the THREAD for you, mrwouldabeen23!
The sad part is I'm trying to quit. I've seen firsthand what it has done to me, vocally. And the coughing up flem ain't that attractive, either. I just think certain things have been blown out of proportion.
OH YES...I have sampled the guilty pleasure that is the "Penis" thread...wow, that sounded REALLY homoerotic...ANYWAY, that thread should NEVER die!
This may be the most ridiculous comment of all your ridiculous comments. Way to go. My guess is that you're just too scared to actually go ahead and quit. If you want to quit (who cares about anti-smoker nazi's...what exactly do they have to do with you quitting), then do it. Don't dance you're way around the issue. I used to smoke half a pack to a pack a day for 4 years. I quit. All my friends at the time were still smoking, but I just decided it was time to stop. I was physically addicted, it was hard, but you just have to make the decision of how you want to live your life. I can tell you now that if you've been a smoker for a while, then you probably have no idea what it feels like to be a non-smoker. It's night and day in terms of what you perceive your smoking is doing to other people and what it actually is doing when you are the other person.
Oh, I guarantee you people would beg to differ on that. I'll quit smoking for good when I decide to. If I ever get to anti-smoker nazi status, you can shoot me in the head. The hypocrisy of it all! And yet, that's exactly what former smoker's do. Hell, without former smoker's, I bet we'd have a whole lot less hub-bub about it. I smoke where I'm supposed to. I don't smoke places I'm not supposed to, and yet everyone is jumping on me for not wanting to give up more of my rights. Puleeze. And then you wonder why I might be spiteful. Let's put this on the other foot. Let's say that second-hand smoke is proven to be no more harmful than pollen. (a research study proved it) Due to these new findings, Ordinances change and people can go back to smoking in offices. Everywhere else still bans them. No biggie, right? I'm sure you'd just accept it, correct?
Well you are basically calling me a liar so I'm sorry if I take that personally, but obviously you have no idea what something like Asthma is. Yes, 2-5 seconds, or even 1 second can trigger an asthma attack. It's not like you just can't breathe while you are going through the smoke and then you are all better. Once you inhale smoke, any smoke, it can trigger it by constricting the airways in your lungs, and for people with serious asthma it is not going to go away by simply getting some fresh air. That's why they call it a "rescue" inhaler. I know you don't understand that, but to say I am lying about it is rediculous.
I'll quit smoking for good when I decide to. If I ever get to anti-smoker nazi status, you can shoot me in the head. The hypocrisy of it all! Well, if you go back and read your posts, you've decided to quit smoking, but you haven't done it yet. Why? I don't know, but you've mentioned anit-smoking nazi's as pissing you off so much that you would actually not quit. I re-iterate, if you've decided to quit, which you've said you have, do it. I smoke where I'm supposed to. I don't smoke places I'm not supposed to, and yet everyone is jumping on me for not wanting to give up more of my rights. Puleeze. No, people are just confused about your concept of "rights." People who kill other people whenever and wherever they please aren't just excercising their "rights", because killing people is not a "right", god-given or otherwise. Whetehr or not YOU think, or even science proves, that smoking is harmful to either you or other people has nothing to do with it being a "right" or not. It is more than just a health issue. It's clear you don't understand the concept. Again, it doesn't matter what research says or doesn't say. We have at least one person in this thread who outrights states that second-hand smoke hinders him. I know of other people who are the same way, many of them allergy sufferers. Beyond all of that, second hand smoke hurts your eyes, smells horrible and ruins the environment in general. I know, I know, I should go live in Alaska or something because you're not strong enough to actually quit smoking when you know you should.
