I use Blockbuster and I've been trying to rent Ron Jeremy's documentary but there is a "long wait". Go figure.
Or if you have a dvd burner which allows you to burn the movie and watch it later, not that I've done it or anything
Free trials WOULD be great for something like that you COULD build up a nice little collection that way but of course none of us would do such a thing....its so illegal!
I didn't feel like reading all of this. I rented in store when no late fees began. It just means you can keep movies a little longer, about 6 or 7 days. If you still don't return, you buy the movie. Then you have a month to return it, get a refund, and then pay a restocking fee. They also have an unlimited rentals thing. It's kind of like the online stuff, except instead of mailing them back and forth, you go in yourself. We did it this January and it cost like 14.95. We could only take 2 movies out at a time though. I don't know if that's standard or just a first month limitation. Of course, the fine print says that 14.95 is an introductary price. I guess that after the 2nd month, you get charged a few bucks more or you can cancel. Crap, was supposed to tell my dad that...
no one would dare. i had netflix for the last 3 months and only once did i not get a dvd they said they sent out. i just told them it was missing and they sent me a replacement right away. i've never tried BB online but netflix was super fast, if i shipped my dvd's on a monday i'd almost always get my next selections on wednesday. not too bad. anyways i canceled my netflix yesterday and went to blockbuster and signed up for their movie pass. it's 19.99 for your first month for 3 movies(14.99 for 2) and you can rent as many times as you want in a day as long as you only have 3 out. when i was asking the blockbuster guy about it, he said this one guy came in like 7 times a day cause he was burning movies and he probably had the whole store. i was like really, huh.
oski - the 14.95 is for 2 movies out at once and the 19.95 is for 3 movies. both of them are only for the first month and each go up to 24.95 and 29.95 after that, which is a rip-off but you cancel before that anytime. also you can just go to another blockbuster after that and start on the first month plan again. atleast that's what the guy told me.
F Blockbuster! Why anyone would now reward them by signing up, after years of them F-ing us in the A on late fees, is beyond me. Let Blockbuster go down in flames people!
I have heard people have problems receiving BB shipments quick. When I return the video for Netflix, I get a confirmation and get my new video usually within 1-2 days after they received the previous shipment.
As I stated above, I use BB and my turn around is usually 1-2 days after they receive my movie, and I don't live in the city that my movies are shipped to.
Great for you, but Blockbuster is a **** company. From the late fees, to the censorship & banning of all sorts of videos. F Blockbuster. Long live Netflix!
None of the Blockbusters where I live are doing this. It's a "participating locations" thing. I didn't really use them before, and I certainly won't use them now.
Forget about block buster! It's all about those DVD rental machines! The local HEB has one at the entrance! You can't beat $0.99 a day rentals!
Just a update. It took them 3 days to receive my return, and again, we are in the SAME CITY. I will never use Blockbusters online again.
It's probably not p*rn he's talking about. I remember BB wouldn't carry The Last Temptation of Christ because it was too controversial. Not sure if there are other cases like this but I would imagine so. I use Netflix myself and I love it.... very quick turnaround, great selection and they always seem to be improving their website/service. I love being able to 'save' movies that are still in the theaters or haven't even been released yet -- stuff I know I'm going to wait for DVD anyway.
Sorry to resurrect this but I just had to rant... My BB online is getting much worse now. I sent back 2 dvds on 1/29 and 1 dvd on 1/31. Its 2/4 now and Atlanta (90 miles away) still doesn't have record of receiving them. I mailed them from separate locations including a USPS box. They should all have been in their hands by 2/2 at the latest. To overcome their incompetence, I use their website to get tell them to ship the next movies 4 days before I plan to receive them. They are quick (within 12 hours) to tell me that the next movies have shipped, but taking 4 days to get them to me seems a little long. If you don't intervene each time to let them know they have been sent back, dvd turnaround times would be close to 12 days. Service has gone from bad to pathetic in a very short time. Even though more distribution centers have opened up this past month, I think they are slowing down to keep their mailing costs down to a point that they are not losing money on some customers. Right now, I'm averaging about $1.25 a rental. Shipping both ways is probably in the neighborhood of $.75 each which only leaving them about $.50 per dvd. That's not much to cover their overhead costs. The fewer they ship, the more they make.
