Fran's job isn't to be original. His job is to certify when views already voiced by others have risen to the status of conventional wisdom. Translation: If the Rockets don't make the playoffs, Rudy is gone. Period.
Fran's actually a very good writer. He just lays it on a bit thick sometimes. His last few articles have been dead on, as far as I'm concerned. Raven
Ooh, how did I let this one slip by, <i>"they couldn't be more full of themselves if they took Botox injections to their egos."</i> So, Fran, wouldn't Botox injections deaden their egos? Didn't you mean collagen injections that would swell their egos? But hey, Botox sounds cooler and more easily associated with the self-centered addiction of cosmetic surgery, I guess. Go for it, dude. As long as you are in the ballpark, it's all fair territory for sportswriter I guess.
So, Blinebury says bad things about the Rockets and then you don't like him. But, FEIGEN says nice things about the Rockets, but you like him. Oh, IC...
That's right. Feigen has to kiss the Rox ass, because if he let his true feelings know, the Rox wouldn't let them into their "posse!" "Can I be your freind. I'll say nice things about you!" Greaaat! That's real freedom of the press. NOT!
True, true... It's not a disaster because of one reason:We need a full-season, with the same (or near) starting line-up. Yao must hit those weights. Francis should go back to school. Not if Francis will understand that bestseller, "Why turnovers are bad."
UGH. Once again with HP to rip into someone elses opinion. Note, that there are no scathing words for those who dont critisize Rudy. Lets try to forget the merits of his article and focus on the "terrible way in which he writes" Lets jump on him for overexaggerating, but lines like: "He could be the best point guard ever" "Mobley's first step is unstoppable, Id like to see Jordan in his prime guard him" aren't over exaggeration? Pretty damn predictable from you pal HP At least counter the points made, not the way in which he worded them. Good lord, anything to deflect awefulness that is Rox basketball right now. And in one paragraph Blinebury summed it all up. Paraphrasing here. How is it that two years ago we were a 45 win team, and since then we added by our own admission the two best players of the last two drafts and are on pace for the same record? (if we are lucky). Not to mention the natural maturation process of Francis, and Mobes and adding a better SF then they had at the time.
If you are going to quote me please quote me correctly. I didn't say whether or not I liked Feigen. Don't make assumptions. I just pointed out that Feigen is less likely to rip the Rockets because he deals with them on a daily basis. Got it now?
I think Fran is expressing exactly what frustrated Rockets fans feel. I have no problems with the article because it's an accurate protrayal of the situation. So what if he has a history of ripping the Rockets. Is anything he saying not true?
Blinebury pisses me off sometimes, but the guy hit the nail on the head. I really wish the Rockets were required to read some of his articles. Maybe that would allow them to pull their heads out of their asses. But, Im still optimistic. We've got a bunch of games remaining and any pessism from the players will only bring the team down. Be confident. Be strong. Take care of business.
No problem HP. I know it's next to impossible to remember everyone who ever wrote a clever post in the history of this BBS On topic: Again, I don't understand the people that say that Franny's crappy writing style doesn't matter just because he happens to be right. I mean if he were to write something like: The sky is bluer than a smurf trapped under the ice in Antartica. All he would have done is stated the obvious in as annoying a way as possible. Yeah! No crap, the sky is blue! Oh really! The Rockets guards don't play intelligent basketball!? Somebody stop the presses! Nobody has ever argued for that conclusion ever before! Fran! You're a freaking genious!!!
Oh no! A spelling mistake! How could that have ever happened?! [insert a pseudo-despaired image of myself here] Anyway, thanks for playing the "spelling bee police", but your comment really doesn't apply, as my dislike of Fran's writing has to do with his annoying overuse (and often misuse) of metaphors. Search all you want; I've never attacked his spelling abilities. Carry on.
blinebury is right when he says the rudy T. hasn't done the a good job of maximizing the talents of his players.
