I apologize if this has already been discussed in other threads as I haven't dug through any of them but this quote to me sounds as if Morey is almost explicitly stating that these guys we picked weren't actually our own picks but were rather picked to trade in deals they thought they had in place. (Again, I haven't read most of the other threads so I don't know what else has been said by Morey so I am probably way off here...)
Sounds, like that to me too. I still feel that we don't have the goods to make a relatively big move without breaking things up.
Thought the same thing too. IDK if the Rockets really need Rubio...I think they just want to get rid of Tmac personally.
It almost seemed obvious to me that's why I was shocked this hadn't been mentioned at all and doubted it was the case. I don't really have the patience to read through the other threads - have there been any other quotes from Morey, ie: "blah blah blah! we love these guys and think they'll fit great!" or "I can only talk about Rudy Gay. He's a 6'9 forward from UConn"...?
If I were Minnesota, I wouldn't mind if RR doesn't come play and stays abroad. It ensures I will suck next year, and get back into the lottery to get more picks. The greatest way to rebuild in today's NBA is to make smart draft picks and accumulate a lot of young talent while you get all your heavy contracts to expire. Whatever mature talent you have, you trade away. Then, after you have a lot of talent, you can trade for the parts you need and make one or two big free agent signings and boom, you're a contender. Boston did it pretty well.
If you were a high profile European player would you want to play for Minnesota? He only said he'd go back to force a trade. If we traded for him, he'd be here in no time. And wow the international appeal of our team would be crazy with Yao, Scola, & Rubio! Les would make CRAZY MONEY!
I agree with some of you...I don't doubt Morey is making a run at trying to snag Rubio and I think he should, but the fact is when Minnesota took him, it hurt our chances of getting him unless a 3rd team was available. Minnesota doesn't really have any bad contracts(Gomes is the worst contract and it's not that bad) and they are under the salary cap so really they are just going to be collecting talent right now and we have nothing to offer them that isn't redundant on their roster. They are probably look for a 2/3 but all of our 3s make too much to make a trade viable....considering Minnesota gave up Miller and Foye to get Rubio, I just don't think there is anything we can give up that the Twolves need. Unfortunately it won't happen unless our old pals in Memphis can help facilitate a trade(maybe a way to send Gay to Minni...not sure how that work though).
